I predict that we will soon see a lot of drivers in CA sticking their heads out the window to talk on their cell phones (although rolling a window down would probably work just as well, but do NOT tell them that...).
its creation would ripple backward through time and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveler who goes back in time to kill his grandfather.
Yeah, leave something like that to Hollywood. In the movie version, the LHC would travel back in time to kill its grandfather, but would miss instead killing the Tevatron. Hilarious shenanigans or a car chase (probably both) would ensue.
Excuse my european ignorance for not understanding. But is it illegal to hate people in the US?
Firstly, IANAL. I think it's not illegal, but I could sue you for suggesting it. I wouldn't stand a Jack Thompson's chance of winning, and it might be 'dismissed with prejudice' (meaning I would have to pay you, or could be countersued for being an asshat). Just hating is not illegal, but as you pointed out threatening is. It's not the phone company's position to block calls, but if they had given out an unlisted number, or you called and said you want to threaten someone what's their number? then they might have some liability. Again, IANAL.
(Before anyone gets offended, I think Macs are ok and used them a lot in the past, but think this would be an interesting experiment even though different than the op suggested.)
I don't think the problem was that the beets are genetically modified, the judge was just unnerved that some of the supporting statements were actually written by modified beets.
Surprisingly, researchers discovered that more light shined on the nanotube created even more electricity, a huge difference from today's silicon solar cells where excess energy is lost in the form of heat rather than used to create more electricity.
Great, then we only really need one of these. And one really, really big lens.
There's also the possibility that they would replace hardware with their own 'special' version, rather than add something completely new. In either case, they could scrape the equivalent weight in crud off of (or under) the keyboard of many laptops I've seen.
Wouldn't a Moon base, or a space-colony type of ship (not in close orbit), be easier to implement, cheaper, and just as effective for that purpose? Given limited resources, it seems like the practice run should be as simple and cheap as possible. Most if not all of the technology from those would also be applicable to Mars, reducing costs when we finally get there.
I've never seen speeds above my 10/2 plan, but here are my results from speakeasy.net, testing the Los Angeles server:
Download Speed: 9859 kbps Upload Speed: 1633 kbps
Interesting thing about this is that I'm on the East coast. Testing the server that's actually near me doesn't give much better download, but upload does go up about 200 kbps.
IANAHDE, but it seems like they could keep an extra drive in each chassis (on the unused port on the 4-port SATA card) as an automatic replacement for a failed drive, and replace the faulty drive at scheduled downtime (or at next drive failure, whichever came sooner). They could also use the SATA ports on the motherboard, as they don't have to worry about the port-replicator compatibility problem, which would also allow them to keep multiple extra drives. Other than the software management issues, any reason they couldn't do this? I'm assuming that they could keep the extra drives at a low-power state, so energy and wear and tear wouldn't be such huge issues.
Not to appear as supporting Verizon, but I recently switched from DSL (max 1.5 Mbps) to FIOS, and I have not been dissatisfied with it at all. Every time I test connection speed, it actually is close to the promised rates. Many other houses on my block have switched too, so it's not like I have my own fiber to test. The most noticeable difference is not in download speeds, but in upload speeds- i.e. sending batches of photos to online albums or to the printer goes much faster. I don't have any "file-sharing" applications on my pc, so I can't say how well those work, and rarely download huge files, but my lag times for online gaming are much improved too. Verizon actually seems to be doing a decent job (for now). I also note that Verizon seems to be acting much less scummy than the other companies mentioned above (again, for now).

Worse would be if he buys one of those 3 gallon (11.36 L) sodas as he goes into the theater...

Please just leave it as a book, if you like it.

What about the civil liberties OF THE CHILDREN!?!?!?!?
This is easy:
Step 1- Get two identical rooms. Fill one with computers with your favorite Linux installed, the other with computers with Windows installed.
Step 2- Put a sign on the door reading "Mac Lab". Use large letters.
Step 3- Observe resulting behavior. Write paper. Profit!

I'm waiting for this spec to go to eleven...

Because it's official now, Linux is bloated, as Linus stated.
When did Microsoft come out with a Linux distro?

Not only that, the crop seems to have already mutated- his garlic repels vampires AND logic!
If you can remove 15 g of crud from your cellphone, the bugs you should be worrying about are not the ones the Chinese put in your cellphone.

Wait until you've read the paper in Phys Rev B then, it's possible the reporter just put their own spin on it...
No word on the part of the legend where they also had giant lasers...
In thirty years Google's mirrors will still be in Beta. They'll test when the final version is released.
Maybe it was a situation like this one.

Old astronauts. No eggs.

The lawsuit alleges that Bay Quackers' use of the sound is infringing and is likely to confuse consumers.
Yeah, how will consumers know if they are on the duck tour run by litigious jackasses or not? This cannot be allowed to continue.

Anyone else have an image of Stormtroopers firing one of these, relieved that they finally have a better weapon than those blasters?
No, it is not compatible with Socket 478. That is what you were asking, right?
