From what I understand almost all distros now have their startup commands in /etc/init.d. /etc/init.d usually ends up being a symlink to whatever the actual rc.d directory is.

    According to LSB: http://refspecs.freestandards.org/LSB_3.1.0/LSB-Co re-generic/LSB-Core-generic/etc.html

The only thing which is different is the actual service name. Take Apache for example, on redhat/fedora its /etc/init.d/httpd, on Debian its /etc/init.d/apache{1,2} etc.

So what you are saying is that laws outside the justice system is a good thing?

This looks to me like your police force needs to start doing their job better by actually arresting and prosecuting the people who commit crime than think of more ways to defeat the laws which are made to protect the people's rights.

You are right. I have no idea what your qualifications are. Just as you have no idea about the qualifications of people working in India or China or wherever else in the world they may be. Yet you did make the statement that your skills give you an advantage over people elsewhere.

I don't know about H1B visas for lawyers, but similar visas do exist for doctors, nurses, auto mechanics (though its easier to get a green card as a specialized mechanic than a visa). I assume that its probably not as practical for lawyers as laws differ from country to country. But a human body is a human body regardless to a doctor, and a mercedes sold here can be worked on by a mechanic just as easily as a mercedes sold in Russia and a programming language in India will be the same as the same programming language in the US.

You said your skills are in high demand, so this means inflated costs. Such as the inflated $250k salary you think you deserve. Like I said, I don't know what your skills are and what kind of work you do. But from what I have seen of IT people, most like to stroke their ego and inflate their worth.

If anything, you seem to have a highly inflated sense of your capabilities just from the comment you made. When you stop walking with your nose up in the air you will understand what I mean.

If you want to blame anyone for losing your job to outsourcing, blame your employer. Employers want to make a profit and they will always go with what is cheaper. But on the flip side, as India's economy gets stronger, it will not be so cheap anymore. And then the outsourcing will go to a different place.

If you play online games, comcast is probably not the best choice for you. Many comcast customers ( at least on the west coast ) have terrible routing.

    For example:
A Friend of mine lives in Issaquah. He used to get an average ping of around 30-40ms to servers in Northern California when it was still AT&T broadband. Once comcast took over, he would get automagically rerouted to Northern California servers *through* Chicago 10-20 times a day. It gets annoying when you are playing an online multiplayer game where latency matters ( q3, cs, aa etc ).

Another friend of mine who lives in Sac area has a very inconsistent ping to almost any server he plays on. His latency ranges from 20ms to 100ms. When he does a traceroute, the number of hops he has to go through varies from 13 to over 20. He is switching to SBC DSL in the next week.

Other people who I have spoken to have also had similar experiences. Comcast service is perfect for gaming for a day or 2 and then terrible for another 2 days.

Its quite possible that they oversell or their bandwidth limiters just make it a terrible service for gaming. I dont know if anyone in other areas have the same problem but here on the West Coast, its a terrible service.
