This is what I am thinking. I guess the law only applies to 800 pound gorillas that have multiple senators, representatives and judges at their disposal.
Makes me wonder if they will have the law amended when they run across a story line, character, song or whatever is copyrighted in the future that they want. I know that money talks, and I get the feeling Disney is one of the future law makers in this United Corporations of America.
I went to a Q gym a few years ago, and they had these exercise bikes that had a choice of either an interactive race/tour on a tropical island, the same on a ski resort, or a game of soccer (on bikes). I remember when I used them, that the tension increased or decreased depending on whether I was going uphill, or downhill. It even adjusted when I hit water or ice. I spent easily 45 minutes on these bikes whenever I saw them at a gym. They only worked while pedaling, so no just sitting there. They really were the shit, and I hoped to see more in gyms, and the game/virtual reality/interactive experience made the time on the machines really go by fast. You didn't feel as though you were working out. But at the end, your muscles sure let you know you had just gone through the rigors of a solid exercise program.
Very nice, I thought. Wonder what happened to them?
How about making a system that is decently reliable? Making their OS run linux apps won't help if they continue to generate a wannabe unix OS. I mean, try changing the IP, or Time Zone in SCO.....then reboot to make it stick. What is this, Win9x? Fact is, SCO should be going the way of the dinosaur. I'd rather run linux and all it's shortcomings than SCO on my servers. Get 1 distro, stick with it, and you are usually gonna be alright. I support a few 100 sco boxes, and I hate having to reboot the system because of this, or that. The linux boxes are sound with no trouble at all.
But this is a commercial effort, is it not? If so, why can't a few companies create plants to do the same thing, and sell the water to the public, or else to the government and then the public?
MKS units of these potentials? Little yellow ones!
Units of the fields? Well, corn comes by the cobb.
What other forces are involved in radioactive decay? Why radioactive maggots and worms. I hate them. That's why they use radioactive pesticides to kill them.:-)
As far as I know, software hasn't gotten any cheaper. You say better software at lower prices. Other than stealware or freeware, where is the cost savings in software out there?
This is where I have been. I busted my backside to support kids when I was in college. I dropped out to take up the computer call several years ago. I spent many many many nights and weekends studying to become a Unix System Admin. I bided my time, and took chances. I worked my way up (albeit, probably too quickly) from help desk to NT Admin to Integration and Architecture towards my goal. At that point, the bottom fell out, and I spent 8 months and 2 states looking for work. Now, I have debt out the ass, and a job paying far less than half what I was earning prior. Got my job, though. SCO.... I wish I had finished my degree in English. At least I would have an option. Teachers can go anywhere. While they don't get paid a ton, I'd of known the ceiling going in, and would have lived my life accordingly. (women + your $$ = debt debt)
Yeah, I am burnt out on computers. I ate, drank and slept computers. And now I am stuck. And no, I can't get school loans for school, as they are about to default, as I've no money to pay, and my now ex used all our grace periods before when I had the $$. Note to all kids: stay in school. please!
I concur. I have heard countless stories of people with serious back pain, or serious acid reflux, and a few with high blood pressure. Once they changed pace of life, and slowed down, these went away on their own.
What I would like to see more of, are doctors who say "I don't know" and then research the issue, rather than saying "here, take this, it might help."
I can see the slashdot article once this takes hold: "Smart Gun modded. Now boots linux. Can change channels on HDTV."
Seriously. I don't like this idea. Why? Because, if I am attacked in my house, and my girlfriend or SO gets the gun to defend herself, the gun will not work because it isn't me. Well, that just defeated the both of us from defending ourselves (or at least one of us). This doesn't help us in any way. Tracking numbers are one thing, guns that don't fire because the owner isn't holding it isn't. The 'baddies' are still going to find ways around this technology, and they will find a way to fire the gun. This only inhibits the law abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves properly. The state should not be responsible for everything out there. It is like we don't want to take care of ourselves. We'd rather enact a law to make it illegal to not put a seatbelt on, than use common sense to think 'if I don't, and I get plowed, I might die'. People are people. No matter how much we 'make illegal', people will find new ways of getting hurt, killed, maimed, etc. Why do we need all this 'protection' from ourselves? Just like this 'Homeland Security Dept'. I don't want to give up my rights for potential security. It is just not worth it.
I once heard, that if MS wanted to, they could cut the cost of Windows to free, and they would continue to generate large sums of income owing from the Office Suite, Server Suites (Exchange, SQL, etc). I think they were speaking of the desktop- home.
That's pretty impressive to me. But it reminded me of the IE and Windows thing. Tie them down to the apps, and they are forced to the OS.
500+ years ago, Portugal and Spain sent groups of people to 'find a better way' without knowing whether or not it would be profitable. They went on hunches and rumors. Chris Columbus ran into what became America. England sent companies over to colonize in the 'name of the king'- but those companies were looking for profit. Look what happened from there. Most failed, but a few took hold, and here we are now- I think it can be profitable, it just requires companies to think long term on the prospects of moving to space.
Wouldn't this be a good time to allow the private sector in on this? Why should the governments get all the fun up there? I can't help but think tourism and a private sector push into space will do for space industries and the like what the governments of the worlds could not: enable living in space- make it a reality.
Well.....I guess you could look at most of the sites we slashdot.....one application (IE, Mozilla, Opera, etc) takes down an entire site for hours and days and sometimes longer.
Will this XML format be one that everyone else can agree on? If so, then perhaps it is the beginning of a change of standards. If everyone else can create an XML based document, and MS Word can read it, I don't see any reason why the format wouldn't become more popular.
Especially if the format allows for the robust features of.doc. And that OpenOffice and other word processing applications (GobeProductive, WP, StarOffice, etc) are less expensive, I can see more companies using that software instead of MS Word.
Oooh, one less dependency on Windows. This could greatly help efforts in India and other governments to move from MS Windows.
I agree. Addicting? No, I hated this game. Only played it a few times. It was cool for its time- cartoony and all, but damn it, I always died- always died- within about 20 seconds of starting.
I once watched some kid drop something like $10 on this game and I don't remember him getting very far in the game.
Anyone ever 'beat' this game? Man, I always chose Cyberball Tournament over this game- as they were usually pretty close together.
It is very insightful. It does indeed show the mindset of the US Government these days. Let's take away the right to do this, and we'll be free of that. It is like gun laws. Whether or not we have gun laws, those who want to use a gun will get one and use it. Example: see sniper.

Last night, the president gave his shortest, and perhaps, most popular speach of his presidency.

Yeah, and I've had hell with IBM drives. I've lost 2 in the last year. My older 8 gb drive works fine, however. Go figure.
I am inclined that reliability goes down when quantity goes up, and longevity of a product goes down when the prices also go down.
But this is a commercial effort, is it not? If so, why can't a few companies create plants to do the same thing, and sell the water to the public, or else to the government and then the public?
I'm still shaken up from that pic. Don't ever do that again. Please. I won't beg, I'll just send you mod points when I get them.
Ohh! Oooh! Me me!

It looks ok...what are the next movies going to be about?
And in other news, the US asked Osama Bin Laden to come out with his hands up and give himself up.
