I had a fresh Win98SE install nearby and decided to give it a try.
Of course, like another poster suggested, the OS is now half-english, half-french (A bit like French Canadians). This is not a big deal, but where it gets worse on the desktop and in the start menu, because this patch renames the "start menu" and "desktop" locations thats held in the registry.
In other words, the normal Win98SE french installation would put the desktop stuff in %WINDIR%\Bureau, but the service pack overwrites the setting to %WINDIR%\Desktop (and creates the folder if absent. unless explorer.exe did that? thats another story.)
The stuff in the old desktop folder is still there, by the way. To fix this mess, id suggest to copy (or move, as you wish) the content of the old desktop and start menu folders in its english equivalent.
Thats the only bug or other malfunciton I saw (yet) for this patch.
Agreed, 255 is probably more than we'll need in the near future, but who is to say what technology will be able to do in the future?
Well, with 255 channels, why not having every instrument on its own channel, and letting the listener mutes and fine-tune every channel for his listening preferences?
Creative drivers and software is just crap, admit it. The simple fact that you NEED the CD to install the drivers bugs me out. I have a SB Audigy 2 Platinium and I still need to get the drivers on CD installed before installing whatever I downloaded from Creative.
Also, its technically possible to have multiple outputs out of your soundcard (read this like in "i got some music playing from the speakers, and also game sounds from earphones plugged in the front panel"). But you know what? Creative drivers makes this thing impossible. But the hardware admit it!! Sucks, isnt it?
If you dont mind going into complicated stuff (you use Linux, right? it shouldnt be a problem then), you can control how the soundcard should behave when it got some audio input. For example you can shoot the line-in to the front earphone plug, normal (aka WAV/mp3) sounds to the main speakers, so on. that picture speaks for itself.
people gasped in awe at the opening scene in TTT, but few realize (or will admit) that those effects were essentially copied from the scene in AOTC where Anakin dives from his speeder.
Then Lucas can copy (still has some time to put it in Ep. 3) on LOTR too. Id like to see Yoda saying "Not pass, you shall!!"
Now you dont have a single flag to watch, you have a whole filesystem to take care of:)
Id like to see that filemanager running under the quake3 engine, personally. Then you would have mods for this filemanager called OSP (Orange Symlinks Productions), Three.wav`s, and of course, De'frag'.:-)
Sony's minidisc software was so buggy that instead of using what Sony provided, I installed Realone with my drive's plugin for Realone to transfer my files:)
I dont get whats the big deal with mp3 on handheld devices. I mean there is like 10 other formats out there that compress better than plain old mp3. (compress better = saves space, which is limited on devices like that.)
Ogg vorbis @64kbps is quite smilar (audio quality wise) to mp3@128kbps.
Why they must ABSOLUTELY have mp3 support? Why dont they do like Sony on their Minidisc players (recompress in their format then upload on the device) - the same thing should be done with Vorbis (or WMA, but no thanks for me)
I would stick to vorbis. But until some company offers a cell phone with vorbis and PalmOS/WinCE/whatever, ill stay home.
Montreal-based Groupe Videotron Ltee. is the only service provider to say it will fully co-operate.
As another poster said, thats logic since Videotron is owned by Quebecor Media, that owns Archambault which already have an legal online MP3 download.
My concern about that is the quasi monopol videotron has about home internet service. Fortunately for us, you can always switch to DSL with Bell's Sympatico (they just announced faster download/upload speeds, im reaching 80k upload). Bell AFAIK dont have any business in the music industry and wont offer help (at least not that easily) to the CIRA or whatever its called.
- Storyline. How did the Final Fantasy series get successful? Probably not because of its graphics (FF6 and earlier)
- Online Multiplayer gaming: why it should be dying? And whats that stat about 96 millions consoles sold anyway (RTFA)? We don't care, I know consoles makers aint making a dime when selling a console. The real deal (profit) is in games. I dont play consoles (except if PC is considered as a console?), but I only play online multiplayer games on my PC, and anything offline is really boring IMO. What the author missed here is about human competition. You can't code that. There is too much possibilities out there, too much way of playing a game, you can't copy a human's thought into some code.
On a more serious note, maybe this was asked before many times, but whats the real benefit of upgrading from.2 to.4 for example? IE: Im running on 2.4.20 and everything works fine. For the kernel I apply the "its not broke, dont fix it" rule.. but Im just curious!

Oh wait.. isnt it what this guy asked?
Heres something way more important, Life after the Oil Crash

Heres your savior: The KXProject.

Did I mention free, too?
So there. Have a nice day!
It looks like this: @
Is it only me, or that sounded like "adding Clippy in Lorghorn"?
:)
Maybe I used Office too much
When Windows 2000 came out here, the French version was several months behind...and it was more Parisienne French instead of Quebecois French
What was wrong with that? I was able to understand it, and im not aware of anyone having troubles reading W2k's french messages/UI.
You can donate your stuff to http://www.usedpccanada.com - enterprises can also get rid of pallets of old pc's too.
With a single click, my browser changed that l337 5p33k to some "engleesh phrase".
Pwn3riz3d.

5. Have m$ OS be able to look like Linux
In fact, there's so many window managers trying to look like Windows UI!
Working - gotta pay the bill!
(OT: GUI as topic?)
Capture the File shoud be a better name IMO
:)

To the Linux Community: "You shall not pass!"
Read the article summary: they said it was cross-platform!
;)
So im waiting for a linux version.
Like in beer?

I dont know bout cables alternatives, though.

(Ok, sorry. I know its not funny anymore.)
