    Yes, letting the labels set their own prices WILL result in lower prices. Here [sic] Indy label logic for you:

    RIAA Tracks: prices just went up, and customers aren't happy with that

    the end points may be analogue over coper, but it's digital over coper or fiber for the vast majority of the distance that the signal is carried. even if you are calling your next door neighbor. of course this IS /. and ianatt*, so it's best to do your own damned fact checking ;)

    *when i typed it i meant att = a telephone technician, however the deathstar seems to fit just as well.

    The vast majority of the length from you to any server on the internet will not be spanned by phone lines.

    the same goes for your POTS phone calls... they call it the last mile for a reason.

    technically, HP has been in the pay per print (we call them clicks) business for years. now they're just moving it down to slight lower end hardware that isn't running 18 hours a day.

    but since air exists, all of the above gods must exist also! (did you stop and think about why there are so meny different religions? i think people are just trying to cope with there own mortality)

    The only way to get XP is to go with a used, refurbished, or off lease machine, or like another person said, go to the business machine section.

    come on man! your a geek/nerd/dork, you should be able to think outside the box! i mean you could buy the os you want.... or you could just get a mac and not worry about it... i dunno, just a few suggestions rather than complaining that manufacturers aren't serving your needs...

    but movies have music in them too! i'm sure the RIAA cares at least a little bit. /me thinks it would be funny if the RIAA went to the MPAA and said "you can't use our music anymore, your DRM was cracked." See Steve Jobs' thoughts on DRM and the agreement apple has with the RIAA.

    the contents of the freedom package ( voicemail , caller id , call waiting)
    the contents of the freedom package plus (3 way calling - who the hell uses that?!)
    unlimited text messaging that works for shit (i can text to and from phones on other networks... most of the time... no google or other short number texting, nor aim)
    unlimited picture messaging (mms?)
    and no freaking contract!

    i pay an extra $5 for unlimited data (but my phone is locked into a shitty web browser :( )

    but normal users in the terminal can go right ahead with making symlinks... in fact, the command line doesn't even know what to do with aliases, yet the GUI handles symlinks fine...

    advantages:
    symlink - works in both GUI and terminal, works across platforms with linux, bsd, and anything else that supports symlinks
    alias - doesn't break as easily
    vista symlink - ????? (possibly cross platform)
    shortcut - attach command line parameters, keyboard shortcuts

    disadvantages:
    symlink - breaks easily
    alias - doesn't work in terminal, mac only
    vista symlink - ????? (probably not cross platform)
    shortcut - windows only
