CEOs regularly sell shares of pretty much any company. Could be a tax payment he needs to make, or just another way to diversify. If you look closely, he's been selling (as most do) for years. So if MS goes into the toilet tomorrow, he's still got enough liquidity to buy burgers and a new t-shirt.
Agreed. And, what happens when (during the downturn), capital expenditure stops and they DON'T upgrade the mainframe this year? Or next?
Absolutely nothing.
Then, all the bigwigs can look around in amazement as that Fiber Channel array from last year still runs and the 40 gigs of memory from two years ago is still enough.
It still makes me sick that companies spend SO much money upgrading this and buying that at the recommendation of salespeople. Or are they called consultants these days? At what point does it occur to people that Budgeted Millions(tm) for IT upgrades every year really may not be such a good idea at some places. IBM is scrambling to rebuild a predictable income structure, as are most companies.
Unfortunately, IBM relies on...well...most companies.
From your comment, "most new CDs here...sell for $14 Canadian (around $8.50 U.S.) while even non-new CDs rarely retail over $17 (about $10.50)"
In the States, we call non-new stuff...ummm...used, and it's usually cheaper than new stuff. Have I been confused all these years? Or are you talking that new release CDs are cheaper than the older releases?
While visiting France recently, I found it terribly frustrating to have to VNC into my machine in the US and THEN load Google, as all attempts to load google.com redirected to Google.fr, no matter how I tried. Even my tracert and pings responded from google.fr.
Funny. I just bought an Epson printer. Brand new, state of the art. To set up the printer in Windows, I had to do the above. Took all of...ohhhhh...30 seconds, start to finish.
In order to set it up on my wife's IBook, it took about 20 minutes of dragging files here and navigating through folders and generally fucking around, THEN it took a reinstall of OSX to fix whatever the hell caused the nasty crash that wouldn't let any of her drivers load for anything...network, mouse, video, sound...all dead.
So, yeah. Native support is awesome for those two HP printers and the Apple printers that the Macs support.
"I didn't mean to crash while driving drunk" "I didn't mean to hit that little girl while I was randomly firing bullets into the woods" "I didn't mean to psychologically ruin that 12-year-old for life when I seduced him"
Holy cow. And I thought _I_ had a rough life and some tough breaks.
Interesting side note and WAAAY off topic. Anyone read the little notice at Hollywood video lately?
They have a notice that if your check fails to clear for NSF, they reserve the right to (for 30 days) remove the money directly from your account, ALONG WITH the NSF fee of $25.
Now, it's been a few years since I had a check bounce, but does this seem patently WRONG to anyone?
"And who exactly are these "early adapters (sic) (double sic)" who want to pay to share files? Isn't this the way the Mafia does business? "Sure, you can bring in as many caes (regular sic) of liquor (vomit sic)/kilos of coke (hyper sic)/hookers (itchy sic) that you want, Vinnie. Just make sure Uncle Don gets his share, you know what I'm sayin' (dead sic)?""
No, I don't hate Microsoft, or corporations. If it weren't for them, I sure as shit wouldn't have a job.
It just seems very likely that Microsoft will follow the way of all large corporations that has huge market share and questionable business practices and fail completely.
For instance...Boeing? AT&T? Disney? AOL/TW? IBM? Any of these former bad boys ring a bell?
Well, it's well advertised - or was - a few years back, it's been around for several years, it's free, it's connected to a company most of us expect to be around for years to come (like it or not), you can access it anywhere (even those little cybercafes in Bumblefuck, Ireland), and I don't know about you, but I've changed my primary ISP about 10 times in the last 10 years due to moves, company closings, etc., but Hotmail has remained, and my address has never changed, worthless and full-of-spam as it is.
Jesus CHRIST. Was that ONE sentence? Take it out and shoot it. Sorry.
Here's a question. Though I agree with what you're saying, you pretty much defeat your argument entirely in the last sentence..."...which those things represent."
So, you're saying that the flag, the anthem, and the name all stand for something.
Now, going to great lengths to educate everyone about WHY they're important as symbols and what they DO stand for is completely important, but doing away with them is difficult, and at an age when children are most impressionable, teaching them a name or a picture of the flag is much easier than trying to teach them the values it represents, and just as valuable...

I think to myself, "What? He's tempted to eat the chairs?" before I realize that vegan != vegetarian, except in the most heirarchical sense.
Was it your business?
Yeah. Right. And scientists will discover that breathing is important to sustain life.

What in the hell does irregardless mean?
Ted Danson is an actor?

I guess it must be the time change from here to BBC-world, right?

Wait...crap.
As opposed to Microsoft, which, of course, will simply end up bankrupt...
Don't you mean 'directionless'?
The reason that we use machines in the US is this : People want the answers and the tallies NOW. Not tomorrow, not Sunday, not next month.
That way, they know that they can safely trade a vote for Nader.
Yeah, it is here in the Great NW, too.
Try the http://www.listen4ever.com/default.htm link from up the list - that'll make it work, even if it does seem like a lot of Britney Spears crap.

Here's a big fat '4' right back at ya. :)
I admire your work.
Google says that 1 gill = 2^2 fl oz., so that may be where your ???s can be answered...

IMHO.
Well, shit. I guess I suck at complaining, too.
4 Insightful?!?! What the hell are you moderators thinking?
