Apple is now offering an iPod AppleCare Protection Plan for both Mac and Windows users. (Previously, AppleCare was only available for Apple's desktops and laptops.) iPods come standard with 90 days of phone support and one year of hardware service coverage. The US$59 AppleCare plan extends service and support coverage for your iPod, its included accessories, and iTunes for up to two years from the original purchase date. With the plan, you get direct access to Apple experts for answers by phone and access to Web-based resources. If your iPod or its accessories need serviced, Apple-certified technicians will repair it or provide a replacement. The plan is available for all iPod models within their one-year limited warranty.

You dont want to be bound by Apple's DRM, buy CDs, just wait a couple of months after they come out when the price inevitably drops to about 10, which isnt really a lot, in most cases its prob cheaper than what you'd pay on IMS, for a decent sized album at least.

um, albums on ITMS are $9.98.
if you HAVE to rip them without DRM you can burn them to an audio CD and re-rip it as MP3 or whatever. people will say the audio quality will drop, but it's still possible. you could also use the digi outs on those nice G5s and record to something digital (or right into another machine) and bla bla bla bla..... the point is that the Apple DRM is not a 100% lockdown, but it makes piracy a bit of a hassle. in that way i think they were realistic about the idea of software based security.

Before i dropped that initial weight it was hard to get back in active mode. Once i lost that initial weight, everything fell into place.

Even if i lost 10 lbs i would stick to the "no dairy" plan because it had done more for my asthma and allergies than any meds have in my whole life (i'm 29 now)..... When i was little i was typic sever chronic asthma kid with midnight visits to the E.R. and all that... i could do sports and play but when it hit it hit hard. Till i quit dairy (i was 27, so i didnt outgrow anything) i was going through a rescue inhaler LITERALLY every 2 weeks, and was at the max doses of all the meds i was on. Since quitting dairy (within a month or so) those inhalers now last me about 4 months and i only use them as a precaution before i go out for a run..... 3 years ago a jog to the end of the block would make me wheeeze, now i can run at least 6 miles (my knees hurt around then and i stop)....

I know i'll get flamed for pissing off all the pizza and McDonalds eating nrrds out there, but if you have suffered with asthma, allergies, weight or anything like that you life you know how much it's sucks... try going vegan for at least 2 weeks straight and see if anything happens. I tried it on a whim and was so shocked at how well it worked i am only angry i did not try this sooner.

NOBODY MAKES MONEY FROM YOU GOING VEGAN. It is not a scam.... it gets easier to eat a vegan diet every day. i still eat crappy sugary cereal all the time (with Soy Milk) and french fries and peanut chews and waterice and whatnot, i am not a granola munching hippie. I seriously feel healthier at 29 than i have ever before in my life.

As for Alien, it was awesome.... if you don't like the movie, then you might not like it no matter what, but i was 5 when it first came out and to see it in a theater with the bonus stuff in it was fun. It was amusing in a way with the 1979 technology, like flourescent lights that stutter when they come on and computers that make beeps and clickity clack noises. All that aside, I WISH MORE MOVIES USED MORE REAL MODELS AND LESS CG! Generally i am not one to gripe about CG, but the few scenes where the alien is hiding and they pan right over it ..... that just can't come across in CG the way a physical model can. YIKES!

no, it's not the scaries movie of all time, but if you are going to nitpick on every detail of a movie, then you are no fun anyway. even so i have seen this movie a few times on TV/DVD/VHS and knew mostly was happening when..... it was still sooooooo worth my $8.00
i realize by Alien3 or Ressurection the stuff they had the aliens do just could not all be puppets anymore, but dang they really are so much creepier......

on a side note KILL BILL used no CG in the movie, all wires, rubber, plastic and 400 gallons of fake blood. nice to see some people keeping it old school.

At some point there will be less choice for web browsers supporting the latest features, but most everything else will work as it does today and did 2 years ago. My mom still runs OS9 and she can still check email, and she still will after 10.3 hits the shelves tomorrow.

In terms of running the NEW os and running OLD apps, that's generally fine. OS X has this thing called classic mode and i can run old OS9 software pretty ok. Till Photoshop, Quark, Dreamweaver etc upgraded, i could run them in classic with very acceptable results. For example, i did layout for a few full color CDs, used Photoshop to tweak the graphics and Quark to do the layout. Took the files to the plant and got back CDs looking 100% as i wanted. I was able to keep working on websites using Dreamweaver without rebooting to OS 9. I really had no problems using Dreamweaver in classic mode.

i think the one issue is that when a car/pump/station go BOOM! there is a big mess to sift through.... there is that MythBusters show on Discovery or TLC and their investigations did not turn up a case of a cell phone actually causing a gas pump explosion, BUT there have been a non-trivial number of pumps blow up in the U.S. Their information implied that it *seems* it is due to people getting in and out of their cars, building up static electricity and then they discharge it when they remove the nozzle from the car (where the highly combustible fumes are).
That's why a lot of stations that are self serve remove those clips so you have to hold the pump on (and not wander off or sit in your car for 60 seconds), I think the cell phone thing is just a precaution. There have been a few cases reported here on Slashdot of Nokia phones exploding.... i don't see why that happening at the pump might not create the idea situation for an explosion.

I have seen people smoke at a gas pump, and as far as i know they gas station survived..... it really requires an idea situation to explode, but it's just not something worth screwing with IMHO. That being said, using a phone (like a speedpass) to connect to my account before i start the pump seems fine to me. I live in a city and all the pumps are pre-pay, so you would be beep beeping your cell phone before the nozzle is removed from the pump anyway.

Sounds like they are just venting. There have been rumblings of M$ getting into the business of selling music somehow. Apple's store seems somewhat to be working and keeping people happy on both sides, and now got tied into AOL and in promotions with Pepsi.

Oddly this week somebody from Apple said the ITMS's goal is not to make a lot of money, but somehting to help sell iPods. in the same way i guess they could make their own magic bolts and screws and patent their magical "parts holding on apparatus". i know plenty of cars and motorcycles require special tools, i suppose they could make it so only they sell those tools for, say ten years or till they don't care, and then let the patent loosen up. they could sell these magic tools for $99,000 or lease them to their dealership shops for $5 a year.

does this happen now? why not? not that i want to screw us all, but does this not happen because the law would not support it, or the public won't have it or are the auto makers just not interested in such control? would people just buy another vehicle? i have had to buy a few special tools for my motorcycles over the years, but in a 20+ year old bike i can't imagine Old Man Suzuki worries too much about control sales that valve tool. i know for a fact that car dealers make most of their money from the repair shop. hence the push for bumper to bumper coverage, they don't care if you pay them or the parent company, either way it keeps them working.

It works well for small labels and bands because the label and the band split profits 50/50 and in the early days the bands and the labels both have a real reason to make the records sell. when the bands get huge, the bands make a lot of money this way. that's a better percentage take than any major label could afford.
