  1. Here's a few on Thoughts on the New Crop of Ogg Aware Players? · · Score: 5, Informative

There are 3 that are fairly well-known

    1. Neuros, though I'm wondering how commited they are to their player. Ogg support is still in beta.

    2. iRiver iHP-120, which I personally think is the best. 20Gb hard drive, built-in mic, ogg playing, et cetera. Great player.

    3. Rio Karma. It has a bit less features than the iRiver, but it seems pretty nice overall.

You sure that's it? What I've seen on the forums regarding the multiplayer was a message saying that NWN+HotU/NWN+SoU+HotU can't be played with NWN and NWN+SoU users until the 1.60 patch is out. Maybe I misread, though.

  3. Note to Linux users! on NWN - Hordes of the Underdark in Stores · · Score: 5, Informative

The expansion CD does not have a native Linux installer yet, and the binaries necessary to play this game on Linux haven't been released yet. Their ETA is "early next week", when they release the 1.60 patch for Windows users to get the games in sync. So if you're going to rush out and buy this expansion, don't expect to be able to play it immediately, as it will not work just yet.

Yeah, I really can't understand the obsession with camera phones. I recently decided to purchase a cell phone, and pretty much *every* decent phone AT&T had included a camera, which definitely added extra bulk. I ended up purchasing a Nokia 3650 (it has Bluetooth), and not once have I used the built-in camera. There's just no point to it. Cameras and cell phones should be kept separate.

T-Mobile, however, does have the right idea with their Sidekick phone. The Sidekick by default does not include a camera, however, the 10-20 people who actually want a camera in their phone can purchase the separately sold camera attachment for the Sidekick.

Personally, I'm paying a hefty premium for an ISP that does not block ports (Speakeasy), and I would not want them to start blocking the ports. In fact, when people requested that port 135 will be blocked, a high-level representative from the ISP presented the following argument against blocking (reposted from USENET, group speak.easy):

"Not only is it against our policy and core services, the overhead involved
with maintaining such a block is not feasible for us to support. Blocking
ports isn't a final solution, either.

  12. Re:Computer Modern? on Bitstream/Gnome Release Vera Font Family · · Score: 1

It's not about the availability of fonts, in my opinion. It's about the ease of installation and management of fonts, which is quite painful if you are dealing with hundreds to thousands of fonts at some point.

I've yet to find an easy way to activate or deactivate fontsets on the fly, I've yet to manage to get X to recurse through the subdirectories in font paths, without having to add every subdirectory to XF86Config individually. That's what is bad about font support in Linux.

Something like Font Reserve for X would be quite awesome.

  16. Re:A strange loosening in my bowels... on Sprint DSL's Security Hole Easy As 1,2,3,4 · · Score: 1

Stop wondering. First off, Speakeasy ships their modems with telnet and FTP disabled, so there's no way to access it whether from the outside or the inside of your network. Second off, if someone does manage to get into your modem, it's going to be useless to them as Speakeasy does not use PPPoE, therefore they do not store any kind of user info in the modem.

For Sprint, this is a much bigger issue, as Sprint does store the user's e-mail address/password combo in the modem.
