  1. Re:Songlines and dogs on Evolving Humans on the Menu · · Score: 1

The relationship between humans and dogs is sufficiently close that some consider them a virtual symbiont. Not only did ancient dogs keep the human's living areas clean, they also may well have served as an alarm system. (Mine sure as hell do!) The dogs get free meals, which probably mean they survive longer and have more vigorous offspring. Humams get garbage and alarm service, which means they probably had better survival rates as well. Everybody wins.

Stephen Budiansky, in his book The Truth About Dogs discusses DNA evidence that indicate that dogs broke off from wolves about 100K years ago. He suggests that there was no reason to do so except for following bands of humans. So, this cooperation between humans and dogs goes back a bit.

If you just look at their respective web page "mission statements", that seems to be the case. However, with all of the plugins available for jEdit, the gap between the two narrows considerably. Granted, Eclipse has a lot going for it, and tons of community support, and a million plugins - But for my uses jEdit seems to be a better balance of power and agility. Eclipse has power, emacs is agile, and jEdit seems to have just enough of both qualities to make it my "go to" environment.

Those of us with properly grounded metallic headgear know that the real reason for this sort of "spectral analysis" is to burn the bastards who took out the Mars Climate Orbiter and the Beagle and all of the other probes that made it to Mars and then "mysteriously disappeared" or "malfunctioned". I'm not sure about the battery life, but it just died as I was typing this, and my last recharge was Monday evening. S'good enough for me.

As for the photo functionality, it's cool, but let's face it, these pics are about the size of the one on my driver's license - In other words, they're pretty underwhelming. I didn't buy this thing for that.
