I believe one of the biggest lies is the phrase: Violence doesnt solve anything. It only makes sense for those in power, as they keep power from the masses this way. We could all dress up as Indians and raid their warehouses full of CD/DVD's and dump/burn them.
But honestly, most of you I don't want to see shirtless. And I'm sure there are even some geek girls I don't want to see shirtless either.
I would think the best way to terraform one planet, would to be doing work on both at the same time. Mars doesnt have enough atmosphere and Venus has to much. They can strip and filter much of Venus atmosphere and transport it to mars. Sure mars will lose it over time, but that takes millions of years.
Yes, not only don't screw up the controls, I'd like to add the following
Don't get caught up on graphics. Keep it simple. Don't entwine the interface where it looks more decorative. (IE, when it no longer looks like a button that does X) I should never have to look at the manual to play the game. Don't add to many new elements. (A game about space combat should not turn into spys, trade, etc)
You talk about the pads on the bottom of the mouse, mine usually fall out within months, and I never notice, except there is this weird little sticker thing on my desk.
I'm a gamer, and put my mice to good use from Dooms, Warcraft1/2, Quakes, starcraft, UO, etc. Their mice lasted, I've even had a logitech mouse side rubber fall apart(disintegrate) while the rest of the mouse was still good.
I do have issues with their drivers as huge, and refusing to work with KVM's. I also haven't been sold on USB > PS/2 for mice/keyboards.
Nice post, but what I thought was most interesting, in the big picture you linked to, some of those rocks look sedimentary . . . which usually requires the use of water in its formation.
I don't follow space news all that close, but I would have thought that would have ben a topic at some point.
What I don't understand is how shrink wrap licenses is even legal.
There is no signature, there is no proof they saw or agreed to it, there is no one to explain legalese to English with other contracts like when buying a house, and the big one: they only see it after they rightfully own a purchased copy.
Why the hell are these shrink wraps legal and enforceable in courts?
And why does the only gaming company who makes games for me and my friends, such a PITA. I've boycotted them since bnetd, but they are the only ones to make fun games, and games that don't require insane hardware. </RANT>
And actually if I got 640KB/s speed uncapped guaranteed I'd be happy enough. I don't see speeds faster than that when doing things on the net anyways even with con-casts 12Mbs.
I would only buy using checks or direct credit card and stayed the hell away from paypal after they froze a close friends account that had 10k for some BS reasons about someone buying from him might have committed fraud, yea so 6 months later he finally got it back, but had to get another job and nearly lost his house.
And ebay and pay pall have no need to know of my bank accounts yet it is now a requirement.(stopped selling when they demanded it back in 99/2000 I think)
Ebay is taken over by big businesses so it is much harder to find used older stuff at expected prices.
Thats alright, I recently looked at ebay for something for ~$250-$400 range then found a local one for $100 on craigslist.
You know in Baldur's Gate, there was a tip on area loads that said something like "While the characters don't need food, the players do. Don't forget to eat"
Since I can't code my way out of a wet paper sack I would pay to have some changes made to Google's browser.
1. Use OS widgets/themes/colors. Apps should ALWAYS follow the OS UI! 2. Have a title bar that acts like a title bar.(goes with above) 3. Status bar. I want to see every URL before I click on it. 4. More options for javascript (like turn off 3rd party scripts) 5. Ability to turn off plugins and crap. (I hate flash!) 6. Remove Google crap (google updater, etc) 7. Add the ability to start chrome with last sessions tabs/windows
I'd pay say $50 (US Check) to the group. Now if we can get others on this band wagon, that can be some good cash!
Wow, I was asleep writing this, left out the f for If
If I don't purchase from newegg, most my purchases are then through mwave, http://www.mwave.com/
I've used them before I found newegg for years. I find it is hard to beat newegg on overall price when ordering several parts, but mwave is really close, and some things are actually cheaper.
There are few other places I get stuff through, but not high end computer parts like geeks.com

"I'd be willing to bet that it is near impossible today to go through a week without break some law that is on the books... oops... there goes another one.. betting is against the law, isn't it?"
The average person breaks quite a few laws each and every day. There has been a few reports on this, and even one just on how an average person can rack up millions in copyrights fees in a day, yet not do anything they see as wrong.
Very good point and if I had mod points I'd prob mod you.
However, I think the issue with drugs is that they cause harm. So someone could use a drug to make them strong, but they will die by 40, or end up overdosing in one upping the competition. So I think people can't use steroids because of the long harm it does to bodies.
Me drinking Mtn Dew while playing Starcraft or what ever would be minimal compared to someone taking speed or other drugs of that type. But then having a key on my mouse mapped to a key on the keyboard increases efficiency a lot too.(I knew a guy in quake 2 days who soldered peddles to keys on his keyboard.)
So improvements that have long term harm should be banned. Then there is the issue of prosthetics where the prosthetics out perform natural limbs that creates an all new mess.
"Traffic fines cost more than what they earn back"
I call BS on this. There are plenty of smaller towns who are only able to afford police because they are funded with tickets from the single highway/freeway running through them.
Lets look at the numbers, 10 over the speed limit net you a ticket for about $125 last I checked. And here in Utah Cops have a quota of 50 tickets per month. Cops rarely if ever pull people over for doing anything less than 10 (as the normal flow of traffic is often 10 miles over the speed limit) So that is $6250 in only giving out 10mph tickets each month per cop. Wow, and I bet each cop makes about 30-40k year, and costs the dept about 5,000 per month for pay, car, insurance, etc.
Now add in the fact that 10mph is most likely the min, and most tickets are for 15+ over.

One peoples terrorist is anothers patriot.
Not everyone is on the same side of the coin. ANd its the ones in power/winners that write news/history.
Not to forget it was also seen as an embarrassment for them not long ago. Think it was even on /.

"Of course, if programmers who post on Slashdot were representative, we must all think we are über-programmers."
No no, I fully admit I can only do script level of programming.
But the big question is, when is America going to get its first Neanderthal President?
We already have one, Bush Jr.

So long ebay!
I'm with you. If on jury duty I chose right vs wrong more than law. Or does the punishment fit the crime.
Or how many crappy fast meal one eats.

Same, I've always heard the US is better in that regard, our problem is E.Coli, and really the super strains of it.
Heck, I've eaten enough raw eggs in the form of cookie dough that even a %1 chance would have gotten me.

Oh, they follow through years later.
I am dealing with cali that want tax money from 97-98 when I got a new job out of state, its only their way with their rules.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
