That the people who you feel are greedy are as a whole also infinitely more powerful than you or anyone you think you can group together to listen to you in the above post can be possibly capable of thwarting. They made people like you their slaves in times before, and still do.
Now go back, drink some more cocacola, and keep consuming the www.
I don't really have a functioning mouse atm, so I'm using the X window system's ability to manouver the pointer with the keyboard, but at times I click on things I don't want to, and it's not as accurate as I'd like(nomatter, soon I will have a mouse, mwhahaha!!) and I accidentally hit the 'install missing plugins' button of a strange website, soon I kept getting force-reloads from currently open tabs forced to some website selling something or other. (Mabye I should have wrote something down instead of being so ambiguous here). I closed firefox, restarted it and cleaned out it's cache and it's been working fine ever since, but it did kind of freak me out.
I for one refuse to invest in china. I do not wish my hard earned dollars aiding in the propping up of such tyrany and despotism.
For every dollar that you make profit off of investment in china, six or more are going to come out of yours or your children's pockets in lost wages due to competition in a place where you cannot legally strike for higher wages, higher margins local companies who are not WalMart are going to have to charge to survive onslaught by walmart. For every dollar that you make profit off investment in china, remember that dollar might also carry the cost of your family's blood spilled down the line when china becomes powerful enough to invade your country. Don't think for a second they wouldn't invade a soverign nation.
If you must invest, invest in any resistance you can find against china.
for around the cost of a pot of coffee a day, your grandma could be supporting a geek's caffeine habi^w^w^h^h^h, and as we all know geeks put money back into the tech economy ad infinitem, so every input counts. Everybody wins; the RIAA doesn't get to find your your grandma looks at baloon and vynil porn, doesn't sue her for downloading the album sexy-rubber by madonna, your grandma gets to be efficient and productive with her computer, and a geek who would otherwise be starving may end up with enough to subsist herself and or play quake.
"instead of the global *three* class heavy on the middle society like it should be"
Three classes? How is it exactly that you can justify the existance of the third class? You're just as bad as the tyrants in the phillipines---for all you care guys like me would be stuck in mercury pits making hats our entire lives for the fat cats in the first class until our nervous system dies!
"2600 has dumbed itself down over the years; they now publish useless howto hacks for kiddies and bored teenagers. Emmanuel also seems to concern himself more with activism now, than actually doing anything useful."
assuming that 2600 has dumbed down over the years for a moment...
there's good reason that Emmanuel has been concerned with activism more now than before.
Well to start, let's take his radio show 'off the hook'. A show on high technology and the telephone network right? Well if you mess with the telephone network you risk getting thrown in jail and beaten like BernieS, and if you mess with high technology you may violate either the DMCA, the PATRIOT act(s?), or any of the laws passed in the past 15 or so years that push harder and harder sentances on any sort of crime relating to technology or the internet. IANAL.
How many times has emanuel been sued due to the above? How much did he stand to lose? How many of his peers went to jail? Mabye if your friends and peers started winding up in solitary confinement for months for nonviolent things that you do you may turn to more of an activist too hrm?
Laws restricting use of technology force those who use technology to reconsider their options. One of those options is trying to change the situation so that everyone may enjoy the use use of technology(hell, even everyone who paid for it! Imagine that, using technology that you've bought! what a concept.).
This part of your comment is the one that makes me cautious. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but whenever I see "this has been obvious through history" I get mental images of Galileo and Einstein. Question everything.
Sorry ma'am, but you were not fighting stereotyping. You were fighting against idiots. Idiots are not fun to fight against, but it's part of civilization, and getting rid of stereotyping is not going to rid you of that problem.
Course, if these same people have parents who can't afford to stay at home, or hire a babysitter for that matter, because the parents cannot afford to stay home or are too busy buying pointless crap they don't need, I can imagine the parent to this post being true. I must be getting old fashioned.
A slave is a tool. Any attempt to insist that they should have ethics is anthropomorhising them far beyond what they are or will ever be. Asking if a slave should have ethics is like asking if a hammer should have ethics.
But I was refering to water you get from your tap. Kudos for putting 2 and 2 together though.:)
Of course, perhaps the tap is merely being outdated, and every home will have a vending machine in it at some point, who knows.
you need to privatize the water industry, and place cocacola in a water-monopoly position(*shudder*) through government grants, and then make water access mandatory in all buildings larger than a given size. Bonus if you put provigil or something in the water.
Unchecked capitalism or corrupt poleticians, or *neither*, the united states of america is moving head first to totalitarianism, if it didn't arrive years back.
Foresight exchange is not fake; if you predict the future, you win, elsewise, you lose. I'm losing right now, because i thought GBStock was the same as Bush04 for some reason. Have I been trolled?
Audio cds would cost damn near nothing because the market is capable of providing audio for free, 99 times out of 100. P2P piracy is a perfectly good example of market efficiency; self interested agents finding the lowest cost of goods, in this case at no cost. Sellers seeking to maximize their profits can risk being the 1 out of 100 by selling their goods at a higher cost than zero, but their time and resources could be better spent getting them a higher ROI elsewhere. The RIAA seems to think that the equilibreum is nowhere near what it is, so we instead get 30$ cds and 40$ dvds(still!? I thoguht they were slapped on the wrist for that!), with a government order in some cases that you must purchase media from the big companies, or not consume at all(unless you're lucky enough to know how to get independant music, not always as easy as it sounds). Governments and industry should subsidize P2P, if anything, in return for fscking up the market by attacking it for so long. Piracy is perfectly fair, so long as markets are perfectly fair. If those in the music industry cannot make as much profit as they desire, then they must find a new industry. You do not necessarily have the right to excessive profits in a free market.
The anti-slashdotism here on Slashdot is extraordinary. I must admit to being rather surprised whenever I see comments like "slashbots don't know nothin" or a recent post...I hate slashdot with excellent spelling and descent grammar. Responses to them are generally stated that slashdot is worthless.
*gasp* marketed towards women from day one? I tell you right now the 'new kids on the block' were not supposed to appeal to males in the same away that they should have appealed to 12 and 13 year old females. It's easier to find good music when crap music isn't all you have access to and everything all your friends listen to. Hell it's easiest to find good music when you have no friends but do have a connection to napster...and most if not all women I've met have lived anything but lives without friends. But I digress.

There are many things other than islam that would cause people to throw themselves into a building at highspeed in an airplane.

Oh come on. It's not that difficult. Anyone who can pass grade 3 can use a mouse. Worst case scenario you need the one button solution
You'd think that now wouldn't you? What exactly do you do for a living, anyway?
And slavery may be forbidden where you live, but it's common, even in countries like the united states it's been known to happen.
IN KOREA ONLY OLD PEOPLE develop a sense of ethics from their parents

of companies, esp CPU manufacturers who do NOT support DRM? AMD, intel will obviously not be on the list. IBM? MIPS? Sun? anyone?

Amazing.
Did not cause unfair taxation in Canada. CRIA or SOCAN did.
Secondly, with what justification do you feel you are entitled to anything, specifically music on optical media you have purchased?
