Some clarification on the historical documents you refer to:
a) there has been discovered a historical error of 4 yrs in the records, WWIII in fact began on 2001
b) over the years the dialect changes of BASIC has caused some confusion. Recent discoveries have also shed light that the war did not start "after Khan" but rather in "Afghanistan"
Just as our historical documents (textbooks, films, etc) are full of errors so are the ones of the 23rd and 24th centuries...
Star Trek: Empires would breath a breadth of fresh air into the series...BIG TIME!
ST:Empires would follow the crews of two ships. One Klingon and one Romulan. These would be the voyages and missions and battles and conquests of these Empires.
ST:Empires would have a couple things in it's favor. a) it'd provide a more in depth exploration of two of the favorite cultures in Star Trek. b) it allow for breaking the mold entirely (imagine an episode where the crew of the Klingon ship massacre a weak developing planet). c) the show would alternate each week what ship/crew was being followed (except for a few cross-over episodes)...this would also allow for easier filming by providing a 2-week filming period between episodes.
The arc would eventually lead to the unification of (Romulans joining the Federation after a civil war to re-unite with their Vulcan heritage...the Klingons would slowly progress closer into the Federation. Finally, after a 2-3 yr lifespan ST:Empires would end. The next show to follow-up several years later would be Star Trek: Galaxies. The premise of which is that the Federation has pretty much explored much of the free galaxy and now is venturing outside of galactic space....(with this series taking on a hybrid atmosphere much more akin to the original (TOS) and Farscape with much more freedom.
It's still OFF-TOPIC and IMHO an abuse of one's authority.
I mean, heck, many people submit articles that are much more relevant only to have them rejected.
Seeing this posted (a personal off topic question) by a super-moderator just makes the little guys feel like there ain't no point.
Might as well post about my second cousins' sister's daughter's boyfriend who has herpes and genital warts as one of the many M.D.s on Slashdot might have some advice.
Then I see something like this and am like WTF? My topics were more interesting and relevant than this..
"Um...my second cousin thrice removed re-married and divorced suffers from chronic back pain. How do those of you who suffer from this deal with this?"
Uh yeah...this is relevant to slashdot....lets mod down to 0 this...
Actually, Military Research generates TONS of practical invention...always has...
Microwaves being a great example, so I think that point is nothing more than an ignorant politically motivated statement.
I believe the K-12 issue is much more of a reason. But beyond that, I think our extremely binding IP Rights/Lawsuits situation is the single most reason to blame for our decline.
When you have patents like "The use of alphabetic characters on top of buttons..." and then lawsuits for any device that uses buttons with letters on them. You have no need to even wonder why technology and advancement is being stymied in the U.S.
I know someone said hard drive is cheap...so no big deal. But bandwidth ain't...
If any of this tech can be incorporated for compressing video and interactive displays we could bring such things as videos or games on demand much more quickly.
The issue isn't storage space for watching a movie. A PVR/TiVo has the room. The issue is download wait. If you can cut that download down by a 1/10th the size, + the 10 times increase in bandwidth over the next 5-10 yrs. You will have a 100 fold performance increase. More than enough to make DOD (Download On Demand) feasible!

BENEFITS AND EXAMPLES:
First off, Morrorwind is an amazing example of a game based on what PnP-RPG'ers are used to. Stats, construction, growth, etc. Now for some the slowth growth at first (very MUD-like in that manner) was too much for the casual Comp-RPGer. But a lot of die-hards loved the depth of that game.

well...anyways...have a nice weekend you bastard (really it's a compliment...you see, bastard or being fatherless is only an insult if your religious)
*LOL*
Sorry, but I had to post this cause I see this argument so often and am just like uh yeah. How about "seperation of state and moms" as they're often the one's most concerned.
But hey...just cause it doesn't bother you means it shouldn't bother any one else right?
Actually, if or when you have children I think we should lock em up in a room and just cuss around them...should be a great positive influence. Just what you want your kid to hear.
Have you considered changing the channel to ToonDisney that was recently added. No, it might not be the 'regular' forte....but they did try to at least provide a substitute baby-sitter for ya.
A complete revamp of the "ol' arcade business model"
How can an arcade with high investment expect to keep up with home consoles?
I can play games at home on a large screen TV with way more detail than most games in the arcade. I can play over the net with lots of people...an arcade just can't compete. (Well, except for those ones that are in areas like malls and attract those strange beautiful creatures called 'females')
What I would like to see open is a place that doesn't charge per/play but rather 1/2 hour blocks, etc.
Takes 4-16 Xbox units and networks them. Has big screen TV's and comfortable chairs. And then charges a per hourly rate...
I felt the entire cast was "stereotypes" the plot over-sexed, the history and lore desicrated. That which made it Battlestar Galactica was totally lost.
I mean, what makes it BG other than a few names, the ship itself, the vipers...nothing else.
This would have been alright if it was released as a new series, new show...but for BG it just sucked....

Which prevents me from using songs from CDs I already own as ringers for my phone. Instead they want me to pay $2 for a crappy version.

It works out to about a $6.5 million dollar increase per year...

What do you do when you're baby-sitter is sick?
Um...
And how did Ronald Reagan do that? It's the Legislative branch that makes the laws....
*doh*
Yes...
But one of the big issues is that Viacom wants that to be a $3/year increase.
In 10 yrs you're bill with be $30 more. Sadly, you're paycheck will likely be about the same.
Dish is actually looking out for it's customers...
I just found out my second floor tenant was paying nearly a $100 for basic cable package. For that same price I get 150+ channels in four units.
