Completely agree with dansguardian too. I wrote a little wrapper once that wrote the logs to a database so it was easily queried. It has options for paying attention to ident and such also, so you can install ident on the clients and actually get usernames, or it'll log simply IP addresses.
I purchased a samsung BD-UP5000 blu-ray/HD-DVD combo player (to take advantage of the uber-cheap HD-DVD's). I made this decision because I wanted to be legal and legit. Due to the DRM restrictions on blu-ray discs, some of the new discs coming out will not play on this device, even though it's a blu-ray player and plays others just fine. I contacted Samsung and because the product has been "end of life'd" I have no option but to purchase another device to play the newer blu-ray discs coming out.
How did DRM prevent from piracy and not just hurt me as a legitimate consumer? In fact, if I'd used the torrent services or other to get HD content movies and television shows, I wouldn't have been left in the DRM dust.
Putting locks on a car only really keeps the honest people honest. DRM is stupid and hurts consumers (like me). That being said, I've since purchased a PS3, because I desire to be an honest individual, but man did it make me feel dirty.
Having taxes pay for everyone healths insurance is a sure fire way to put America in the poor house.
Sure.... that's why the Canadian looney has a higher value than the US Dollar, and they have tax based insurance. Oh, I forgot about England too. That's such a poor economy
Yes, if it was based on current costs for healthcare, it would hurt our economy, but as part of legislation, we'd have to make costs more reasonable, and I'm not talking about no one making a profit, but it's insane as it stands right now.
First: Honestly, I would do my best to remove our military presence from Iraq (and yes, I know this would probably lead to civil war, but I think its going to happen anyway, just delayed while we're there).
Second: I would see if I could get the ball rolling on government insurance (socialist medicine), our privatized insurance system has become the bane of the under and uninsured people in the country, particularly children in those 2 categories.
Bah.... it's never good enough for some people. Honestly, I don't care if he accepts royalties or has a distribution contract, etc.. Perhaps he's calling their bluff, they say they aren't happy with what he said, so he's seeing if he pushes and pushes if they'll cancel all of the above anyway. My thoughts? They won't, they make too much money. They'll grumble and then go hide in their little cash igloo's.
Apparently my quick search for the exact wording failed me. Doing a more thorough search, the quote I listed has also been attributed to Thomas Jefferson, so I give. Damn.
But what if the guy you hired to paint your house was a convicted con-artist? Wouldn't you want to know?
Oh PLEASE! Paying a source that is a con-artist is no where near the same thing as buying a book from someone convicted of a non-pertaining crime! Yes, I'd want to know about the con-artist, simply because I was hoping to get what I paid for. Buying a book from a convicted Pedophile does in no way threaten the livelyhood of my children (not that I have any, but that's moot), especially from a third party (Amazon).
If the person lived in my neighborhood, I'd like to know about him being a pedophile. If he's a convicted thief, I'd like to know before I allow him near my stuff. If he was a convicted rapist, I'd like to know before I let him near me or others.
So how do you explain the fact that Microsoft's own admins didn't update some Hotmail boxes, and some MS web servers? Is that just laziness? The patch had been around before the worm, yet MS still had pie in the face from that one.
Wow, talk about nit-picking, it actually made more sense to me using the term slashdotter. I.E. "The next slashdotter who compares anything...", this would not sound correct as "The next slashdot who compares anything....". Is there more than one slashdot?
I've been a long time reader of Slashdot, years now, but this is my first post. Anyway, the thing that does bug me about the average "slashdot" reader is how fast they are to judge. Don't get me wrong, I've fallen into the trap many times myself, and I've started catching myself lately.
True, Redhat has released a "buggy" product, but they are not the first, and certainly not the last. Just wait for 7.1.

this is primarily a tool for piracy.

Here here! I was 9 at the time. Then came river raid and pitfall.... nostalgia making me dizzy...

Heh... I make a joke (albeit poor one), and get modded as a troll. Sweet!
How can they sue?

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.

Did Tipper Gore move to Oklahoma?!
Check out this trailer.
Pertains to your post quite a bit I believe.

Why'd you post this if you "could" care less. Perhaps you "could not" care less.
You should be de-rezzed for doing that.

If you want to see just how much power a company has, take a look at this link. BTW, this is a friend of mine.
Or perhaps VBR (variable bit rate). I've actually had it save space over a 192 with better quality.

That's right, the more we control them, the more they will lose creativity and free thought. Just means more boy bands, right?
So, uhm... Wouldn't it make more sense to simply number, color code, whatever instead of "little grey box with the red triangle on it"?
http://www.heavy.com/ . Which turns out is also pretty damned funny. Especially the Contagious movies.
