    So it can go up to 5000 ft if it uses up all its fuel getting there, and then parachutes back down? Still not totally practical.

    I miss Shareware that you didn't have to register. Either it wasn't time limited, or if it was, you could just delete it and reinstall.

    I am not sure what size an average US house is (in sq ft) but the power usage would be very dependent on the number of people living there, and the weather/climate. In summer a house in the southern US will use a lot more power to run the A/C and in the winter a house heated only by electricity here in the northern midwest will use more just to remain comfortable.

    The other main usage of power for people not involved in pot farming or running a server farm would be hot water used for showers and laundry. Especially if there are more people living there and their ages. (babies can cause a lot of laundry especially for people that don't use disposable diapers.

    Of course the average slashdotter living in mom's basement wouldn't use much power for washing and laundry...

    It would be simple to prevent speeding, with GPS enabled black boxes, they know you're in a 30mph zone, so it won't let the car exceed that.

    Why would you want to watch a movie on a small phone sized screen? (Shouldn't you be keeping an eye on the road?)

    I can understand watching 'live' events (like news, weather and sport)on a mobile device, you can't be home at the time its happening. But a movie can wait until you are sitting down in comfort in front of a big (er) screen)

    Dr Michio Kaku raves about graphene a lot.. He did mention using it to make a Dyson phere (of the capture all the energy of the sun kind, not necessarily the live on like Shaw's Orbitsville kind.

    When I go to the supermarket I take my own cart. I don't drive, so I can't load the groceries into a car. If I was to carry all the items all the way home (15 min walk) my arms would get sore, so I bought a little shopping cart from Amazon a few years ago. Best purchase I ever made.

    I believe there exist states that do not have state sales tax. If Amazon was to move all its functions to those states, they would not have to charge sales tax to residents of those states, and because of the interstate commerce clause they wouldn't have to charge sales tax on stuff exported to the other 45 stateMore and more online purchases are for digital downloads, licenses, and other online services these days , they can't tax that.-

    I think all states have a minimum age for (human) drivers, so that should have to apply to computers driving cars too. They would have to show stability and reliablty before being let loose on the roads.

    Who says energy has to be 'mined' anyway?

    And theres a few gazillion tonnes of hydrogen about 93 million miles away - where do you think the energy to make the deposits of carbon based fuels came from in the first place (and most of the other forms of energy we can use. The only exceptions are nuclear fission and geothermal.)

    Hydrogen has been the major source of energy for the universe for the last 13 billion years or so, and in this neck of the woods for nearly 5 billion, just look up in the sky sometime.
