    You have to be rather stupid if you think those posters, with some obvious exceptions, really think MS will have a bonecrushing mafia guy waiting in the parking lot...

    This story act like a collectively recognized cue for making MS vs. Mozilla jokes, same with other topics that appeare at regular intervals. If you look at the (albeit few) serious post they are rather less focused on the part of it being a supposed trap.

    If we were to start tapping into the magnetic field at such a scale it would devastate the field of magnotherapy. When traditional medicine fails you, where will you turn if the magnetic fields were practically gone due excessive exploitation?

    Well, the thing is that whenever someone from the other side of the pond starts comparing the US with Europe they have a tendency to cherry-pick countries. If you're making comparisons don't pick the country that much of the rest of Europe considers as bad as the US.

    Why not instead pick Norway as an example, just because I'm familiar with it. Probably has one of the most modern data protection laws around. http://www.jus.uio.no/iri/forskning/lib/papers/dp_ norway/dp_norway.html Neither was the iTunes thing really unusual.

    Europe is not a single country, not even a federation.

    Ahh... but you see, this is for moderating 'patents', not actual working inventions. So a patent can actually violate a law of physics without much discussion being in order.

    Perhaps they could implement a mechanism by which upper-case letter are entered into the system by default, and shift would be used for inputting lower-case letters.

    Google probably doesn't care that much if they stop using it or not. The important thing here is that Google can now say they sent letters asking them to stop, which would show that they tried to keep the word from being diluted.

    Actually, no... Storing zip codes in integers make perfect sense, assuming they are fixed-width. It is rather they formatting used to display it that is buggy if it does not show the leading zeros. But then, using integers will make it difficult if you ever need to extent it to support other formats.

    I got this same reply when I posted a similar opinion on the original story. No, we're *not* crazy conspiracy theorists that think the moon landings were faked, etc...

    Rather, more like someone who's been involved with an compulsive liar for too long and no longer trust their word. Evidence is in fact the *only* thing we want shown, words are not enough.

    Traditionally, Pluto has been a planet not because we think it falls under the definition of planet, but rather that we don't have a proper definition of what a planet is.

    Assuming the latter is a meaningful debate, yes, there is a meaningful debate on this topic.

    Speaking of evidence... There's not a single mentioning of explosives discovered, which would be the kind of thing they would widely publish.

    So I'm guessing they once again did their usual thing, let's just hope they manage without shooting or incarerating innocent people for a year, again. Sure this might have been a real plot, but their credibility is wearing thin.

    I just checked my Algorithms: Sequential, Parallel, and Distributed textbook, and *every single page* now holds that ascii diagram! Thanks alot for ruining my $60 textbook, I hate you VMWare. ;(
