Like any TRUE geek I already had a TiVo with a "wishlist season pass" for the keyword "DUNE", which causes it to record any show with the word "DUNE" in the title or description.:) So I had no need to set a recording up for tonight!
I've worked with PHD's who were by far, the MVP of the software team, who wrote 50% of the code, and who spent literally 3-4 hours a day solving the problems that no one else could solve.
Maybe what you're saying applies to stodgy acadamia type PHD's, but the ones I've known were much more interested in writing code than in writing papers. Plus, they had the deep theoretical knowledge necessary to make O(N^2) O(N).
I have read literally hundreads of Sci-Fi books by probably all of the great authors. This series of books doesn't deserve such a harsh snubbing. These books are not bad. If you like the Dune universe, the newer prequels are certainly interesting (not as good, but certainly fun in their own right).
What way do you're hands fall? Palms toward legs... This is the CENTER of the range of movement of you're hand and requires no physical strain to hold this position...
Not being able to put you're elbows down kind of sucks tho...
What motivation would you have to pay 5 engineers and 10 artists a million dollars over 2 years to build a game that would make you NOTHING because it IMMEDIATLEY would be made available for free?
Futurama is hilarious. The recent episode where bender was adrift in space and a microscopic civilization evolved on his stomach, and came to worship bender as god had me laughing for days!
Especially when they nuked the microscopic civilization on his ass!
I've sort of been working on a book of my own...
Basically, its about all the stuff you need to know to be a professional programmer, but that is rarely covered, or glossed over in school and books. Im writing a book about Makefiles, and Source Code Control, and about all the C++ gotcha's (things like, initializer lists happen in the order member variables are declared, NOT in their visual order)... I plan on covering all of the really standard algorithms and data structures... Hash Tables, Linked Lists, Binary Searching and Quick Sorts... Basically I want a book that could jumpstart a fresh CS graduate's career... What does everyone think of this idea?
We should have spent all of the money we've
wasted over the years on Environmentalism and
built up some kind of defensive asteroid shield..
Their's REAL environmental protection for you...
BTW, we really should all drive alternatively
fueled vehichles (sp?), not for environmental
reasons, but to stop terrorism...
TiVo does not collect personal information, unless
you opt in. What does that mean? That means that
unless you specifically ask them, they wont know
that Steve likes The Sopranos. Only that 85% of
their customers like The Sopranos.
I dont have a problem with this, and I dont think
that most people WOULD, if they fully understood
the issue.
Instead, people who just want attention make
libelous claims out of ignorance or malitiousness
(sp?).

Whatever. You just haven't met the right PHD's.

A company should be allowed to charge whatever it want's for it's products. No one is forced to buy.
Tony
I'm sorry... But shouldn't TiVo be setting a standard like this? Not some unknowns?
Tony
Cool... I have the same birthday as /.

You just think you're so smart don't you? Any company that followed the plan you laid out would quickly be out of business.
Try this:
Relax and stand up; arms down, totally relaxed.

Plus, the quality is their... RedHat 7.3 works beautifully on my shuttle... I didn't have to manually configure anything...
Tony
So wierd...
A history by a guy I work with about a guy I used to work with...
Tony
I dont believe he was reccomended plain text as the digital format...
What I read was to use JPG, IE images of each page.. OCR is just to provide indexing...
You just dont get it.

Get a life... The goto argument is dead... If you cant learn from knuth because of goto's, then you're just making excuses... Tony
