    So I download iTunes. ...I tell it to index all my music, and not to copy the songs into the My Music folder (this is just plain dangerous for people that don't know how to organize their local files. I see lots of disks filling up due to copies of their songs living in multiple folders).
    [quote]

    The big danger is that by default itunes is artist oriented in the way it sorts your files in the itunes folder.

    -Artist
    ---Album
    -------tracks
    ---Album
    -------tracks

    This is potentially disasturous for compilation albums featuring multiple artists I went from a disk based sorting system of my own design 60's, 70's, Folk, British Invasion, Various etc.. with sub folders boken down by artist and then album ,to an Itunes Arist Centric view.

    120 gigs 1400 artist folders in the root of the music folder some containing only one song.
    I folishly didnt go find out what some of the options really meant before deciding to reset my itunes folder to my music folder and allow itunes to manage the music.

    Overall I like the app and it even provides for mp3 encoding without having to buy a plugin( unlike Microsofts Media Player)

    I've spent some time reasembling my compilation albums and will eventually get reconstructed.

    My advice to anyone using it would be to set up a dummy folder of assorted file collections to find out what it will actually do to your carefully arranged music files. If you are single oriented then it will probaly be ok to let it mangae everything for you. BUT if you are album oriented you probably will want to reign it in some.

    In moving and renaming I have also run across some apparent problems with truncated folder names and possibly file names.

    From personal experience. I went to Wal-Mart, the only store open at 100 am, when I needed to see if the retail version of MS Windows 98 would solve a problem for me. After opening the box and carefully reading all the documentation and without braking the inner seal on the software I decided that there had to another solution. So the next day I returned the box to Wally-World and went up the ladder all the way to Store Manager. along each rung I explained that the box plainly said that return to store for refund. The manager called Microsoft who told me to return box to them and they would cut a check which I did and they did. Next time I purchased software from Wally I just opened the bottom of the box carefully and after evaluating the software returned it with the bottom seal carefully reattached and the top nice and pristine. Had no problems returning it. Symantic was even easier. Tried one of the System Works Suites and it was too much of a performace load on my meager PC, Called them up and they sent me a check and I didn't have to return the software to them just had to promise to destroy it. Which I did..

    /*End sarcasm (särkzm)*/

    Yeah I know that wasn't the point of the comment..NetJunkie gave a balanced overview of the situation..it boils down to what the stations AND cable company in your area are doing..
    Personally I'm holding off until the local affiliates decide what they are going to do...If they opt to split the stream most of the time what signal if any is left that is HD and if they do split the streams how does that affect cable companies and must carry rules.

    Back when the cable companies were first pushing their product I seem to remember that one of the selling points of cable was a picture superior to over the air broadcasts...But now when you try to use that same logic to get national feeds from a satellite service like dtv or dish the responce is that the over the air signal is of high enough quality to prevent you from being able to legally obtain a network feed off of the satellite...
