  1. Other life in the universe is likely... on Astronomers Estimate Milky Way May Have 100 Billion Alien Worlds · · Score: 1

But the real question is how likely is it to happen during our time in this universe. The chances of it occuring are likely very high, but when it might happen or have already happened could be spans of billions of years. Then there's the question of whether we'd even be able to reach it or communicate with it, given the vast distances.

And as Calvin once said: "The surest sign of intelligent life in the universe is that it hasn't contacted us yet."

For me, a few of the emotional highlights of the film was seeing the hobbit's return to the shire (showing how much they had changed) and Sam and Rosie's wedding. The film would have been extremely disappointing without these scenes.

Having missed every bit of this show, how would everyone recommend I start watching? Should I jump in with these 4 episodes? Or perhaps I should wait till when Sci-Fi reruns everything from the beginning? Or, I could stop being cheap and go rent the first season on DVD. For that matter, is the second season on DVD yet?

  16. The Ultimate April Fools Joke? on Wil Wheaton to get new role on 'Enterprise' · · Score: 1

I can't wait till when we find out that this news is actually true, and the joke is really on us.

Anouncing this sort of thing on April 1st would be genious. Sure, most everyone would pass it off just a joke, but Star Trek is well known for bringing back characters from previous shows. TNG brought back Spock, Scotty, and even threw McCoy into the mix in the very first episode.

So in a few weeks, when this news is still circulating, I'll be there to say "Ha!"

  18. I would have never considered this 2 years ago. on 13 Nominations to Rule Them All · · Score: 2, Interesting

I first heard about LOTR being made into a film about 2 years ago. I'd never read the books, but had always wanted to. I quickly bought the books, and read them even quicker. I fell in love with the story. I watched the film's developement very closely over those 2 years, reading Tolkien Online and TheOneRing.net almost daily. I bought the soundtrack (excellent!) and a couple books. I even bought some miniatures. I reread the books a few months before the film was released, and enjoyed them even more the second time. I caught a showing of the film on it's first day out, and have been back for a total of 7 times (so far!).

Now, if you had told me 2 years ago that LOTR would be nominated for 13 Oscars, I would have said you were nuts. This is truly an amazing accomplishment, and LOTR deserves every one of them.

I also predicted that it would one day replace windows, because after all, who would use an OS they had to pay for?'
