While there are three consoles in the market, you have to look at the segment that they are all trying to penetrate.
If you look at the console market as one big pie, the pie is actually getting bigger (i.e. greater revenues for each console, game publishing company)
The size of the pie does not remain the same, and it is a wrong to assume that as one console enters the market each "piece of the pie" by the other already present consoles diminishes.
In reference to my second sentence imagine what revenues for the industry were when the SNES and Sega were competing...1/3, 1/4, maybe even 1/10 of what the entire revenue is today.
As the gaming population ages the pie gets larger and more $ is to be had. Therefore, there still doesn't exist a barrier to entry based just on how many consoles the market can support at one time.
Thirty years from now when the age of a gamer spans from 5 yrs old to 75 yrs old (whereas now it's about 5 yrs old to 45 yrs old), then it would probably be right to assume that the revenues have peaked (in total population able to support the industry, mind you) and there will be evidence to support just how many consoles can be out there at once.
But then one must consider the possibility that every generation after their own has roughly 1.5 times the population of theirs (the population of the earth is getting bigger)...hmmm...just thought of that at the end of this...
We all know the Millenium Falcon can travel at (about?) the speed of light.
To be specific, it equals 3.26 light years.
Han Solo brags that he can make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. This is another example of Bad Astronomy; like a light year, a parsec is a unit of distance, not time.
Forget my previous post, i hit submit before i could finish...anyway....here's what i wanted to say....
Some flaws in the argument in the article
A)The article says that sales for the gamecube hardware are behind previous estimates 1)The xbox sales actually exceed gamecube sales by a very small percentage; 2)also doesnt state that estimates were a few thousand units behind or millions - big difference, if only a few thousand behind no big deal, right?
B)The gamecube was developed with third party players in mind. The N64 was impossible to program for (according to game companies), and nintenod knew this and came out with the cube to make game development much easier.
C)If you follow gamecube news at all, all you hear about is how nintendo needs to up third party development, which i personally think it's doing , and nintendo knows it needs to do this, and as the article states it is in the process of attracting game developers.
D)Anything that's not on the cube can be played on pc, anything that is not on pc cannot be played on the cube:zelda, metroid, mario kart, etc.. (xbox fanboys:halo is coming out for pc)
I honestly cant think of one game that i want to play that is *console specific* that cant be played on another medium, besides gamecube games.

I recently noticed that on the home page the articles no longer have the jpeg image for the topic they represent. I.E. if the article is about portable games, right underneath the headline there is the jpeg of a game boy. I think it is easier for a reader to do a quick scroll down the main page and just see the image related to a topic he/she wants to read about...as opposed to reading each headline and caption. What happened, and will they bring this feature back?
In a related story, president Bush seeks UN support for "US does whatever it wants" plan, which would permit the U.S. to take any action it wishes anywhere in the world at any time.
Bush in his 25-minute address,
"I call upon the world's nations to support my proposal to give America unrestricted carte blanche to remove whatever leaders, plunder whatever resources, and impose whatever policies it deems necessary or expedient."
If anyone has been playing video games in the last 5 yrs, then we all have noticed product placement in them.
Mostly sports titles have banners all over the place for different products. If I remember right, NHL '95 for SNES had banners around the rink for Dodge, and that was 7 years ago! All the newer sports titles have ads all over the stadiums.
Most recently Tony Hawk 3 had the (then) brand new Jeep Liberty placed on different sk8ing levels. I guess they thought skaters would buy some.:D
PC's are video game systems, much better than consoles.
games are the majority of problems in why people need to buy new cpu's, are there any apps out there that demand more than 300mhz? i have 450mhz, and xp doesnt come close to using all of my resources.
Most schools start teaching you things before you have a grasp on the field. That's why this discussion is about GENERAL knowledge(something you don't seem to have) in schools. Why would someone learn about something they already know? That's probably why you never went to college, b/c you already seem to know everything.
I find learning general knowledge in all areas is fantastic...liberal arts degrees are great...Master's degree's and PHd's are for when you know what you want to do, and go back to school for a specialized degree in something-where you don't have to learn general knowledge. What a concept!!

Shut the frell up, shazbot breath! Fudu you!
I think you meant to call him bantha poodu.

This game came out just a couple of days ago, you have to admit it's a little bit early for a patch...
Makes you think they didnt even finish the game properly, kind of reminds of a game called Ultima IX.

Now i feel like an outcast...and i thought i had something special here.
As the immortal Ogre would say, "I smell NERDS!!", or maybe i don't.
What this moron fails to realize is that my first post was SARCASM, and that Bush is a borderline looney tune.
Bush in his 25-minute address,
"I call upon the world's nations to support my proposal to give America unrestricted carte blanche to remove whatever leaders, plunder whatever resources, and impose whatever policies it deems necessary or expedient."
The results were amazing, the conclusions unequivically point to the fact that Iguanaphobic user #31670 is an idiot.
anyone know what it is? cmon...i know someone does.
now all the postings are referbished garble from other news sites.
Cmon...try to have some sort of screening process, or start posting stories like "How to use mpeg players!!"
I'm sure this would make this guy happy.
So...close...must...try...harder
