Blackberry works great for people with no servers etc. Our mobile solution has been Goodlink which makes the Treo a force to be reckoned with (if you get a working Treo that is, but that's another issue...), it can also run on some blackberries(I think) and WinCE.
Support for mobiles built in exchange? Bye-bye Goodlink at $300 a seat.
Perhaps the fact that is a bit warmer is actually the reason we are doing as well...you could argue the odds, and say that we shouldn't even exist because of all the conditions that had to arise etc...but here we are, because it *did* happen this way.
Government concerns aside, if you have something in any way, shape, or form, that you consider to be sensitive or private, WTH WOULD YOU PUT IT IN AN EMAIL? I mean seriously, nevermind that government could read it, what about any hacker or shady type with any sort of desire to read your email and any bit of technical knowledge.
I can't believe some of the stuff that people will put in an email that can be intercepted, forwarded, CC'd etc.
One the one hand I stopped playing WoW because it took up far too much time from family, mainly because there's not pause button and although it's a lot easier to get into and out of then EQ back in the day, when the munchkin wants some play time it's too hard to just stop......On the other hand there's CIV4...it's really paused ALL of the time, and for some reason it's equally hard to stop, if not harder.
Okay his theory might be right (we don't know obviously), but the way he gets there is WRONG. He's taking pure math and assuming it directly relates to reality, and that everything works along these simple formulae.
IANAL, but I'm pretty sure this is probably illegal, or non-enforceable. I'm sorry but they don't have the right to tell you what you can & can't do on vacation time.
If they can you over that, you probably have a juicy lawsuit to throw at them...
I don't think voting is the sort of thing that should be automated; it's hard enough to make sure things are above board without blackboxing things.
We just voted yesterday in Canada - made an X in the appropriate box. Kind of hard to mess that up I've always thought. And even if it was an OSS voting machine, the general public and in fact most people would get nothing from that, not having the first clue of what the code meant.
I know the US is 10x the size, but you also presumably have 10x the people counting. And in any case, for one event every 4 years it seems reasonable. Heck we do it every 1.5 years it seems:)
This would help both Dem's and the Republicans - it'd be much easier to see who won so if the Dems should've won obviously this information would be useful. If the results were correct it would help the Republicans as this whole "illegimate president" thing could finally be done away with.
I know it's popular to bitch about the US elections and mock the US, but personally I'm impressed. The courts decided where appropriate, jurisdictions seemed to be respected, and rules followed etc. There was an orderly hand over of power. Do you think things would've gone as well in every country where the election was balanced on the finest of margins?
Plain old paper ballots would have made the whole affair as open as possible.
This "link on the 2 or 3 best words" thing is stupid, or at least half the time it is done stupidly. I hate trying to click on three different links on a/. story to find the damn article that is actually being discussed. I don't give a crap about the other times it was mentioned in/.
Why should we have to guess? Why is it so wrong to say "here is the article" instead of this pin the tail on the URL crap.
This is ridiculous! It's not like Apple is pushing this stuff to people over B.S. their own CUSTOMERS are the ones requesting the data. Sure it comes from Apple, but at the customer's request. WTH should Apple, or Google or whomever be charged for that? It's like charging GE for the power your dryer is using (while charging the customer at the same time)
Personally I wish more stories would actually have an anchor of Article or whatever, usually I have to try and guess which of the four or five links is actually the article and not some related link or other Slashdot story. If I am going to RTFA, I'd love to see which link is actually the article without guessing!
I agree, but what needs to be done for this to happen is for someone to invent a new word for nuclear power that does not use the words "nuclear", "atomic", or "radiation" (etc...) Make it sound happy and maybe it will fly:)
The issue is if it is natural then there's nothing we can do about it (except to move to higher ground), if it's manmade than in theory we could do something to change it. So do we fundamentally alter our way of life and oil consumption etc or not? Personally I think it's the former, but I also think that there's plenty of reasons to reduce fossil fuel usage that have nothing to do with climate change. (Hey, the stuff is getting expensive!)
Seemed like a bunch of bitching about religion, not really "my most dangerous idea", but more like "hot topics that everyone is talking about these days that I want to intellectually wank off about in public, ooo lookit me I'm a perfessor!"
Good design is both very important and very difficult to get right. However this probably means you need a few good designers not more designers. A good UI that make sense to your typical user is not easy to do, especially if you plan on doing anything different from the norm.
The Treo 600 was the biggest POS I've ever had to deal with. I'd say literally 7 of 10 units were defective and had to be replaced. I'm on my 3rd - and it's been good for 6 months (and no other problems for awhile...so hopefully whatever was wrong with the batches or something they fixed)
Fun features: - sucks back the power - run out of power and everything erases itself
The only thing Treos have going for them is GoodLink...GoodLink is just plain awesome.
I remember reading an article on the RIM guy - sounds like he's very down to earth and has not become a lavish spender, despite his wealth. Canada loves BB - it's "our" thing so I'm sure RIM would be able to continue to service Canada and make some profit. If I were him I'd be tempted to pull the plug in the US and pull out. Remove all assets and data etc, hand the keys to the corporate shell that remains over to the plaintiff. Hell, do it right and it'd be like one big fat white elephant. Life for RIM would be scale down a bit, but would continue. But there's that little bit of satsifaction picturing senators etc trying to get their emails:)
-This generation I'm married with kids, so dumping $700 ish into a system aint going to happen! -I realize I can buy this for much cheaper in a few years with more games -My PC is at least somewhat up to date reducing the need for the 360 -Oblivion is delayed anyways:)+

an interesting thought on a)

What's the point of this story? I like stories.

Also add:
-3. before it was colder
-2. before it was warmer
-1. before before it was colder
0. before it was warmer
See the thing with that is, GWB went back in time and personally melted them all himself!

Ooo wow, you like totally solved all of mankinds power problems for all time! Congrats!

Better yet patent the idea of doing that and let that stew for a few years then torpedo every website :)

Oooo so you have something better? I'd love to hear all about it.

Yeah because protocols are what we'll be remembered for!
Oh like how the term marriage was redefined? You can't do that? Seems to me it's done all the time!
You lie, apple came out with a mouse with more than one button...now THAT'S innovation! :P
