But if you want to run the palm OS, why not just get a palm?
Seriously though, it is fun to be able to emulate other operating systems etc. but if you find yourself really needing to use the Emulator on a constant basis for most of your programs etc. wouldn't you be better off going for the Device that is made for the OS you want to use?
How about SimCult... Get the FBI to get blamed for building a cult and killing yourselfs. The more you can get blame shifted from you the better points you get. Model the Cult after an evil violent computer game, and get major bonus point.
Until science came up with the instruments sensitive enough to measure x-rays would you say they existed or not?
The Aura doesn't exist... but wait they have just proved that the human body has an electro-magnetic force surrounding it.... mmmh, how many other things exist that we don't yet have the tools to measure them. ESP, and other energy work, is only missing an accurate means to measure it. As soon as that is found, people will think you silly for not believing in it.
Good to see some real hardwork being put to work for the playground. Of course for $395 most people will just go for the twisted elastic on the fingers and rolled up paper.
But, the advantage of getting rid of pesky kids far outweighs the cost....
It's a bird, it's a plane.... no its elastic shooting man!!!
The Naming convention that I play around with at home, uses Geography:
eg. Continents for really big servers- the big guns, Countries for smaller ones, but still pretty big, then you could use states, and then towns.
For me my Main server is Africa. I then have things like Eqypt, RSA (Republic of South Africa) and various other things. The laptops etc. are Names like Cape Town, Durban, Cairo, etc.
It works pretty well, cause you get to categorise size and location. You could always add numbers at the end.
Just think about this..... Be Sues Microsoft, and wins Billions. Be Takes billions, or a few millions, and buys Palm OS division. Be begins marketing and releasing BeOS on the Desktop, and a BeIA-palm OS on the Hand devices. Be Starts hitting Mickey$oft from all sides, and this time has the large customer base, install base, and the marketing potential.....
What worries me about this whole thing is the fact that you only seem to be able to play the "cd's" on a Microsoft OS machine. Where is the support for alternative OS's. Also, at the end of the Day, I have bought the music... What I decide to do with it, is my business... as long as its not for prophet... blah blah blah.
Firstly what country are you talking about. Every country has there own laws and own way of dealing with things. Option A might be good in the States, B might be good in Australia, C might be the best in the UK.
I have been contracting for about 9 years now, and have pretty much tried all the various flavours in quite a few contries. What I have found is this. With a corporation, you can pay yourself a lower salary, thus minimising personal tax, but the company still has to pay tax. Often this is more than the personal version. Also you have a problem of accounting for that company that can cost. I have my own company, but don't really work through it. Maybe when I get married, and two people can draw a salary from it, it will be worth it but not now.
My suggestion is this. Go with the Simplist one first. In Oz I am a PAYG employee with a contract agency. they do all the tax deductions, super, payroll tax, blah blah, and I just get money put in my account on a weekly basis... No Worries.
Thank you, you have explained it pretty well. And also emphasised my point, that being that linux being just the kernel, might not be that well integrated into the system.
eg. PalmOS - Made for handhelds, etc.
Wince - Bloated piece of crap, like most of MS stuff
Linux - Could this not also suffer from bloat and having lots of unnecessary stuff for a PDA.
Obviously, if you strip it down etc. you can get something really small, but still not quite doing what it was intended for...
Could someone please explain the infation that everybody seems to have about running linux on everything even though its not suited to that task?
I agree that linux is a good secure Server system, but for the life of me I can't understand what you would want it on a PDA for. Use the best tool for the job - This exludes Win XP as well.
What if you make clothes completely out of colour epaper, and have a couple of small little cameras placed around your body, maybe attached to your helmet. Then, what the camera on the opposite side of your body sees can be displayed on the epaper... Poof you are a chameleon, blending in perfectly with the background. You could shove a grenade up Osama's butt before he even knew you were there.
This is good for all low power devices, but the problem is you still need another layer producing the colours or monochrome display.
This technology could probably replace the backlighting methods used today, but as another poster mentioned, it can only display static images printed on it.
The real breakthrough will be when they can manipulate an image on it, Colour or not.
Speed is very nice, but....

What about reducing the power required, or the heat. How about the cost etc. I have no idea what really needs that sort of power? I know the Xeon is more of a server chip, so speed is important, but this trend is happening on Desktop chips too.
All this speed is encouraging programmers to be lazy and not use good code that works fast, but rather rely on the hardware being fast.
Well, the BFS system uses Mime type to identify files, but you can also add many attributes to the files. Example all my MP3 files have File attributes on them that contain information about the MP3. It is great, 'cause you can search your file system for those attributes. Extremely quick. Also you have the advantage of having a database at your finger tips in the form of a file system.
Gui and clicky is nice for the AVERAGE user. Think people. The users out there who like their AOL etc. don't have a clue what a hard drive is, never mind Sync/refresh rates, and what is actually inside there computer. They just want it to work.
There will always be a market for people who want to recompile the Kernal, and tweak this and that. This is good, but not for the Average user out there.
What makes this one different from other Linux distributions. Until Somebody produces a Linus that is easy to install, and doesn't need a massive learning curve to actually use, Linux is still very useless to me.
I really think Linux should take a look at the ease of which BeOS installs and configures itself. That is what the average user wants - transparancy.

Oh, this could be bad.... but, on the plus side, when nurses are getting a lot of abuse from patients, they can easily chuck them out of the window...

Can't wait until they port the game to the palm!! :-P
One more repsonsibility taken away from idiots.

Lost servers could be called Atlantis.
Servers that crash (Microsoft Servers) Afghanistan.
Servers that lack resources- Africa could be good.
Servers that have too many users - China or India would work.
There are plenty more
eg. Continents for really big servers- the big guns, Countries for smaller ones, but still pretty big, then you could use states, and then towns.

I can dream Can't I.... 8-)
But does it come with sound effects ala Bionic Man... too tooto tootototot otot

Just a different use for e-paper.

Just a bit of a rant...
I would love to see BeOS on a palm, but it might takes lots of more time.
Also there is the thing about it being a computer. Surely once it obtains a reading skill, the learning proces should become extremely accelerated.
just a thought.

I am looking for Java support on BeOS or somthing similar.
