As an avid surfer and windsurfer I see this as another implementation of the hated jet ski. You know the devices that cause so many injuries and problems on the waterways. Nothing is worse then planing along on your board only to be cut off by some yahoo on a jetski trying to jump a powerboats wake, that sucks when your out on your 6.5m sail trying to get some air. Or imagine trying to surf with one of these losers buzzing in and out of the break while you were dropping in on the wave, I can see the fights now especially in the northeast (and for those of you who say their is no surf in the northeast, get a wetsuit it's hurricane season and I was surfing triple overheads before Isabel, I can't wait for Juan.)
There are a few people that have been instrumental in making computers a prevalent as they are... In making them as IMPORTANT to daily life as they are.
Linus has never been the man who made computers what they are today. Sorry, I like linux and all that, but really that honor (and I say this knowing I will now be hated on this site) goes to MicroSoft. Really they made the personal computer what it is today. could you see your mother or even your grandmother using a PC if it were not for Windows. Secure? no. easy to use? yes. There are trade offs when you rush a technology out. Think about this, prior to windows the only people who could really use computers were people who went to school for that reason, now everyone and their brother has one and can connect them to each other.
Never think that Linus made the PC what it is today. He helped improve an existing technology but he is still a minor player. I personally like the fact that he could care less about what MS is doing. It shows his focus is where it should be, on his work.
I disagree, how can they both not be technically interesting. even if one is a pure clone it would still be interesting. imgine knowing how the original UNIX was developed. How can you say that is not interesting?
Krill, you are either the most intelligent troll, or a person who understands both copyright and GPL. Damnit people if you want to read the article (and from the amount of NYT articles posted to/. I can guess we all do) then follow their rules. If I wrote an article and wanted, as payment, to collect info about what you read then guess what that's my right. if you don't like it fine by me but don't think that it's alright for you to read it. If you think differently then go work for SCO.
Regarding the New Coke/Classic Coke comment. I know OT but you brought it up. What about it is urban legend, That they produced a new recipe for Coke, No that happened, That they stopped selling the original recipe when they launched the New Coke. No if I remember correctly the original recipe vanished for awhile. That they brought back the original recipe and labled it as Classic. Hmmm Classic is around and widely available so again no urban legend. And that New Coke is for the most part off the market ( you say it exists but I have not seen it and I have travelled cross country many times in the past what 15 years). Sorry but I do not understand your urban legend comment. As far as I remember is Coke was feeling the heat from Pepsi and made an extrememly bad marketing decision. And I did try the New Coke, guess what, it's cola.
Question for you, What artist do I send it to? Do I send it to the person performing the song or the real artist, the one who writes and composes the music?
How's this for a solution to these stupid license agreements. Instead of selling the hardware, I sell the use of my hardware for an unlimited time, the purchaser is free to transfer this agreement to anyone he chooses. As far as the license is concerned I still own the equipment I am just renting it out forever for a fixed one time price.
What, I was a machinist mate in the Navy, Never once in my entire time in the military was I trained in any sort of combat. I never once fired a weapon or took any sort of hand to hand. Not a lot of use for that stuff in the engine room on a ship.
SO I can say with certainty that not everyone in the military is trained to fight.
Also, when you leave active service aren't you actually considered in the reserves for something like 2 years. I can't remember, my military experience ended about 10 years ago.
If you are boycotting a film guess what, YOU DON'T GET TO SEE IT (or in your case DVD's then you get to miss out on the better quality over vhs and all those extras). Sorry but a boycott is a sacrifice. If you then download the movie to view it your boycott means nothing. I believe in fair use and all but it was never meant to give you the right to view and distribute copyrighted material for free.
Ok yes you can at times under the fair use staute use an exerpt of copyrighted material under certain circumstances, such as reviews or for educational purposes. But you can't pull an entire movie (even if it is not the feature) off of a dvd and share it with the world and claim fair use. No court in the world would back you on that.

WRONG,
According to your link:
"CD-ROM" stands for "compact disc, read-only memory," so adding another "disc" or "disk" is redundant. The same goes for "DVD" -originally "Digital Video Disc"-even though some manufacturers now claim the initials stand for "Digital Versatile Disc." Don't say "give me that DVD disk," just "give me that DVD."
The product you are taking about is "Buddy B-210 Virtual PC" Here is a link to a review of the product. http://www.overclockers.com.au/techstuff/r_buddy_b 210/
And I hope you saw english as it was developed by an Australian company. Whether is is still made I cannot say but you may be able to find it on ebay.
If the military is using intel equipped notebooks running windows 2000, then changing from his too slow but rugged notebook to a powerbook I would tend to think he is using some off the shefl commercial app. Why? because I really doubt the military would spend the time or effort to redevelop some custom app for processing satellite images just so one Major can run non-standard equipment. Infact it is rare that the military will let anyone use non-standard equipment in a critical position. So I tend to think this guy is probably not in a critcal position and may actually be in some PR department in the army where he may be using Photoshop or the like to touch up images for dispersal to various news organizations.

Ok I rarely laugh at /. comments but you sir just made a lot of people look at me as I cracked up.
so basically you want an 802.11/802.3 card.

question is have you ever seen them in the same room together at the same time.
think about it.

so back up the bios and have it read that instead. I am sure someone, somewhere can hack the live code on their xbox to change where it looks.
It's an upside down/rotated e but I have no idea how to pronounce it.

Heh heh It's so funny that this is the one year anniversary of that article. Yeah I know completely off topic but what the hell.

Thanks for the clarification. I was only in for 3.5 years and medically dischraged, also inelligible for reactivation.
All I was saying that not everyone in the military gets weapons training, The parent of my post did say every last one of them.
