Brought to you in another effort to turn an open standard to a MS only standard. Hell, it will probably be partialy encrypted for "security" reasons so that you can't write any applications that even work on it with out MS approval for fear of violating the DMCA.
A new filesystem isn't needed. A new software vendor is.

Loki Aftermath Looks Bad
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
Well, to answer your question, the concept of Loki based games is still cool. And I believe that if linux is going to have a significant chance at taking a major chunk of the desktop market that Linux based games are extremely inportant (and i do think they have a future). However, any company that stiffs its employees while padding the pockets of the upper brass is bad news.
In other words Loki games was a great concept, with terible execution.
He (mundie) said: "Rather than form a federation with Microsoft and work with what we had already created, there was this notion that the world should be offered an alternative."
Words of monopolistic wisdom, from the horses mouth.
Sun makes hardware and software, or more specificly software standards and api's. and MS also makes hardware in the form of game devices, and formerly in a joint intel-Msft agreement, stuff like motherboards, firmware, Nic cards and so on.
Kinda blurs the line huh?
Personally i dont trust either one, let them both burn!
Acording to current (US) monopoly laws, having a monopoply isn't grounds for legal action. it is only illegal when a monopoly is leveraged in a manor as to hurt the consumer. i.e. abuse of power and so on. If microsoft had gained a monopoly through building a better product and simply out competing the other companies in its field. no legal action could be taken.
Do you have ANY idea how many "illigitimate" copies of microsoft software come out of the company itself? They have had the ability to track (unaltered) versions of thier software through various means since windows 98 (that windows update shortcut + win 2k server versions send that information on request).
The reason they don't crack down is because they need the millions of people run illeagal copies of thier software so they can be the most prevolent software provider.
if everyone was suddenly forced to run ligitamite copies of MS software, MS would go out of business.
The company is not going out of buisness because of dropping PC prices, this guy needs to look at the whole picture.
If I buy a piece of hardware, software, or media and it doesnt work like it is supposed to (that is acording to fair use laws, and descrpitons on the device/media packaging, THEN IT IS BROKEN!
If it is broken I'm taking it back. Beleive me if you make a loud enough noise they will take it back reguardless of thier return policy.
I'm as anti-Microsoft as the next guy (well, probably more anti-MS then most actually), but this has to be a hoax.
If a terrorist organization did succed in infiltrating MS and backdooring thier OS, why would they say anything? it much more useful to them to keep it quiet. On the other hand, if they didn't succed in do it, saying they have is the next best thing. Remember terrorism thrives on scare tactics, and convincing your enemy to chase ghosts.
the mear fact someone is taking credit for it before anyone else found out about it, means it probably didnt actually happen.
but doest it cover other press freedoms such as the right not to reveal your sources? what about if it conflicts with new digital laws like the DMCA? Does this mean that the 2600 case can be thrown out the window? or does it mean that online press only has limited rights uner press freedom laws and the first amendment as long as it doesn't conflict with newer web oriented and digitaly oriented laws?
I remember when this list contained toys that ware choosen for reasons like "contains small parts that children may choke on", or "rocket like projectile my puncture eye". not this politicly motivated tripe.
Besides, are you really that worried about your kids "shooting thier friends in the back with a chaingun while fighting caco-daemons"?

I wonder if norton AV software will follow suit, since Mr. Norton himself started as a virus writer, and would have likly been a victim of the FBI spy-ware.
Heh, pretty soon (if things dont change) it will be a federal offense to run/own/use firewall web cacheing software because it makes "unauthorized copies" of some esoteric copywrited document or picture or what ever.
Congratulations to the world of buisiness and the world of legislation, for putting aside thier various differances and lobbyed the internet back to the stone-ages where it belongs... >{
"The judge agreed with eBay's position that it is not like a real-world auctioneer that vouches for the items on sale, but rather more like a provider of the stalls at a flea market."
how is it that the digital "flea market" owner isn't libal for renting a stall to person selling pirated material, but 2600 magazine is libal for linking to site that provides DeCSS code fragments? another example of the double standard that will bring the DMCA crashing down eventually.
there has to be something on the chip that denotes a differance between a 1.4ghz and a 1.6ghz (and so on) chip.
If not, retailers wont be able to tell which one is supposed to be higher price, and if retailers are going to be confused with the pricing of a product, they won't sell it.
"Well, it edged out Real. It blew Microsoft away."
Which in english means "Microsofts R&D department will be hard at work absconding code from apple to make a new version of their streaming server."

Wasn't the first video game Tennis for two as created for some 'public fair' by some MIT guys or something?
Im not sure of all the details but I am sure that it predated SpaceWar.
"This would destroy Windows desktop operating systems as a stable and consistent development platform."
Oh well... Boo fucking hoo...
Besides, using the words stable, and windows in the same sentence is an insult to programmers everywhere.

Must have been all that violence and gore in Pac-Man and Centapede that led to the same problems in arcades in the early eighties.
Seriously tho, the real problem here is GANG VIOLENCE not GAME VIOLENCE.
