But his point stands nonetheless. Just because you don't have a sense of humor about your own religion and are upset that he questioned your god doesn't make him wrong. Ad hominem is no more cogent than straw man. Honestly, many people would argue that there isn't any evidence for your god at all. So where does that leave your argument?
And no I didn't capitalize god. Because it is just one purported god among many. Capitalizing the word god is blasphemous to most people on the earth that don't believe in your god and irritating to most atheists.
Using torrent methods for distributing files over the internet is a good thing. The more people that need the file, the faster it goes for everyone. Hats off to the inventors because almost nothing else in the world works out that way.
If this makes it faster and easier for people to download the stuff they want, then what is the problem? Use the downloader until you're done downloading, then turn it off. If they don't allow that, then I'd be pissed.
Another four renewals to bring it up 50 years is going to cost $1,111,000,000, which is absolutely insane. No work would be kept out of the public domain that long.
You forgot to factor in inflation, which cannot be predicted with certainty. What if, for some reason the value of the dollar plummets over the next two years?
Best make it some percentage of the profits or we'll end up with something like where we have to pay an Indian tribe 5 wampum belts per year.
Microsoft's VS and Office teams felt that the OS standard widgets didn't meet their needs, so they rolled their own just like any other competent developer could do.
I believe it's called "reinventing the square wheel".

The office division was forcibly split from the OS division years ago.
The result? Office is a piece of shit. It doesn't even use the common dialogs that other third party apps do.
I know because I've changed my "favorites" for those common dialogs to use things that I ACTUALLY USE rather than "recent documents", "my documents" and other such bullshit. But office still opens up a dialog with "recent documents", "my documents" and other such bullshit. People using the defaults would never notice, but I'm not one to use defaults for much of anything.
Excel pretends to let you use multiple spreadsheets at once. It even displays multiple entries in the task bar, but you cannot display more than one spreadsheet at a time. Outlook's settings seem to have been organized by a neurotic, schizophrenic, autistic spider monkey. It's virtually impossible to send an email with some formatting that doesn't try and use Word as an editor. And 90% of the time I spend trying to format a Word document is spent FIGHTING it to get it to do what I want.
I think Microsoft is punishing us all for forcibly splitting up their business divisions.
Trillian has been 3.1 for well over a year and hasn't changed unfortunately.
I still use it, but with trepidation after discovering the hack-job workaround it uses to process aim:// links that no one ever uses.
See I had this problem with my old computer that, something...some nefarious process was causing my RAID array to access once every second. And since it was four heads seeking every second it was pretty loud despite my efforts to build a quiet box. So I used Sysinternals freeware FileMonNT to find out WTF was accessing my HD and lo and behold it was fucking trillian. Trying to read some goddamn file that didn't exist every two seconds, followed by NTFS filesystem logging a second later. Hence disk access every second.
I actually contacted cerulean studios about it and asked if they had any plans to fix it. One of their developers responded: "No."
You're misusing the term "thermal properties" when I think you mean "heat". And "by proxy" nothing. What proxy are you referring to? Thermal properties are innate in an object and rarely change without physically deforming the object. The "thermal properties" of an object have absolutely nothing to do with the particular direction and speed with which all of it's constituent particles are moving (heat).
Making the "temperature right" would require accelerating every single atomic particle back to it's original speed AND direction. And Heisenberg's uncertainty principle says that we can't possibly measure them both correctly, so forget about restarting them. And if you get the direction or speed wrong, the chemical reactions would go awry or stop altogether.
First, I'll admit to not reading the article. This is slashdot, after all.
The problem with transporting people is, you have to take a "snapshot" of them, then reconstruct it somewhere else, right?
There's one, big, big problem with that. The snapshot is just that, a still image.
Think frozen in time. The key word being "frozen". As in not moving at all on the subatomic level. As in frozen solid at absolute zero, and very, very dead. All chemical reactions that take place every nanosecond you're alive stop. Upon being recreated in a presumably hospitable environment you'd also most likely shatter due to the extreme heat differential between your absolute zero body and the balmy ~72F degree air.
It don't think of Goonswarm as one coordinated acting entity, I just hold em all responsible, that's different. Whatever you say about not beeing involved, you flag yourself as one of them, that makes you involved.
You're a human being. Human beings have killed other human beings. Murderer.

For optimal enjoyment of the parent comment, make sure you caught the part where he said "astrology".
There, fixed that for you. Asshat.
I'm not microsoft fan, but who cares?

DRM isn't a functionality, it's an impediment.
Then it's even funnier.

MusicMatch Jukebox has been a bloated, annoying piece of nagware since it was created. I don't see how this is news.
Also, yahoo has been a big fan of forcing these "upgrades" on people since Yahoo messenger was in about version 4.5.
After that it got shittier and shittier but they keep forcing people to "upgrade" and will tell them all sorts of lies to get them to allow it.
Older versions used to allow you to choose not to upgrade. Not so with anything about 6.0 onward. Makes me want to go visit OldVersion again.
You think the organizations that paid good money to get laws passed that make such things a crime really give a shit about wasting taxpayer money?
This is why I refuse to even consider getting an iPhone until the 2nd generation version is released.
They're going to find glaring problems that will be fixed a generation or two down the road.
Another fine example of a great, pointless law. If someone is spoofing, how will you know who is breaking the spoofing law?
This will be when and only when the headline actually reads, "Sun Super Computer Hits 2 Petaflops".

Let me know when you can repost the same story without the question mark and I'll start caring.
If the headline ends in a question mark, it's not news.
That is not an option.
This IS slashdot you realize. You must be a new gf on your boyfriend's old account to not know that by now.
One of the most quotable quotes in movie history.

Glad I didn't buy the "Pro" version...

Why the fuck do they think anti-malware software is the answer?
Three words: Hardware key logger.
Fools and their money are soon parted.

This is probably the best post I've read on the subject on slashdot, goonfleet, my corp's forums or CCPs.
Mod parent up please. (I don't have mod points, I keep running my mouth here)
