TT5B Copy Control Issues Jun 22, 2004 - 1:40 pm By BeastieBoys.com 1. There is NO copy controlled software on US or UK releases of Beastie Boys' "To the 5 Boroughs."
2. The disk *IS* copy controlled in Europe - which is standard policy for all Capitol/EMI titles (and a policy used by ALL major labels in Europe).
3. The copy protection system used for all EMI/Capitol releases including "To the 5 Boroughs" is Macrovision's CDS-200, which sets up an audio player into the users RAM (not hard drive) to playback the RED book audio on the disk. It does absolutely NOT install any kind of spyware, shareware, silverware, or ladies wear onto the users system.
You can find more information on the technology used here: http://www.macrovision.com/products/cds/cds 200/ind ex.shtml
This is what EMI has to say about it: Reports that "spyware" is being included on the Beastie Boy's CD, 'To The Five Boroughs' are absolutely untrue.
While the Beastie Boys CD does use copy control in some territories, there is no copy control on the Beasties Boys discs in the US or the UK. Where copy protection is used, it is Macrovision's CDS-200 technology; the same technology being used for the past several months around the world for all of EMI's releases in those territories. This Macrovision technology does NOT install spyware or vaporware of any kind on a users PC. In fact, CDS-200 does not install software applications of ANY KIND on a user's PC. All the copy protection in CDS-200 is hardware based, meaning that it is dependent on the physical properties and the format of the CD. None of the copy protection in CDS-200 requires software applications to be loaded onto a computer.
The technology does activate a proprietary Macrovision player in order to play the CD on a PC, and that player converts WMA compressed files to audio on the fly. It also temporarily installs a graphic "skin" for the player. Nothing is permanently installed on a hard drive. These details can be verified in the 'install.log' file in the computer's root directory.
I think this would make a pretty good keyboard: Start with the IBM Model M keyboard as a base. Weight + Tactical feedback = A good thing. Then take out the caps lock key and replace it with control. Add in Meta, hyper, Super, Apple, windows, and any other key that works or can be defined to other things. For good measure, make it wireless, so you can use it as a weapon.;P
I'm 17. I get on for about 30 minutes during free time during school, per day. I get home at lets say...2:30 and am online virtually non stop until 10PM (homework stop), so thats 7.5 hours. Total of about 8 hours per day. I sleep for about 5.5-6 hours so its still nice to know that during the week most of my time is still spent offline. (being about 10 hours). Weekends its more like 10 hours sleep, 10 hours net and the remaining sprinkled throughout. Its a social tool for me really. I'm not much of a talker offline, but online I have no problem getting stuff off my mind. However! I know I have to get out at some point during the day, my body/mind can't handle a lack of real human interaction.
Just say its pirated warez, throw it up on a torrent, kazaa, winmx, or whathave you, and it will last for years.;P look at the www.textfiles.com archive.:)
Hey, as a teen (17) I can say that the reason of me completely forgetting to write in cursive is due to the fact that after they taught to me, they never made me use it again! I simply forgot about it. So the IM scapegoat is out for me.
On a slightly odd recent discovery, it seems the RIAA may not have been so evil at a point... http://members.cox.net/datafox166/irony. jpg I pulled this off an album circa 1965 or something like that. It _was_ that now its doing this? What happened?
My childhood. I can't believe it that I've been playing this game since it came out. Man, I feel old (Stop laughing, I'm only 17). I'm teaching kids to play doom over a lan. These kids were born _before_ doom came out. (10 years old, man;) Recently I found a copy of Commander Keen 6 at a garage sale, complete with the boxes and everything. I scanned every single thing I could in there. Its 13mbs if anyone has an idea of how I could get it to them!:)
As an active downloader from WINMX, and an avid user of winamp, I can tell you that, (at least over here) it is a hoax. I download at least 1-20mbs a day, (thanks to a 120gb HD) and that the _WORST_ things I've seen out there are pr0n dialers which are usually a pain in the ass to remove, without spybot. Well, thats my two cents for the day.;P
My school completely and utterly defeats the purpose of censorware. For instance: www.theonion.com is blocked, and www.cexx.org is blocked. However: Most porn sites, and everything2 is not blocked. And everything else that is blocked can be unblocked using google caches. Go us...
Okay: I found a working (chinese) mirror: http://it.21cn.com/software/wangluo/2002- 10-29/812 755.htm

Being a CT native, alot of towns here can be photographed in one fell swoop. ;P
On a simular note, what would you do with 640k?

I got 149 inbound connections between
01:01:56AM and 08:08:04AM
Coincidence? or is it something more?

I've found that pretty much the only thing I have in my room is a TV, (Which I seldom use), and a computer that has no net connection for MP3s.

It must be so bad it's been blocked twice over here.

Congratulations! Slashdot.org is now censored under the no-no word: Flesh.
I certainly hope I don't see software like this coming out: "Magnetic Pole shift Compliancy software" ;P
