Whose "rights" are being challenged here? This is just about politics in a standards committee. When the government comes swooping in and takes over things then we'll talk.
Web sites can be blocked if they contain pornography, speeches of hate, contempt, slander or defamation, or if they promote gambling, racism, violence or terrorism.
According to MY bill, it would be illegal to pass stupid laws if it met the following three conditions(1) The average person, applying contemporary intelligence standards, would find that the legislation, taken as a whole, appeals to the government's morbid interest in sociatial manipulation. (2) The law depicts intervention in a manner patently offensive to prevailing standards in the liberty-mined community with respect to what is suitable for citizens. (3) The law, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for ANYONE except those in power.
Politician: "Hey, we gained access to mail server logs for suspect A, let's see what else other people are up to... Hey lookie here, my political rival's internet activities..."
The new release could have patched a hole that would have otherwise let the browser rape you in your sleep. Note the headline, when it's Firefox it reads "kills bugs". You'll never see that with an IE patch headline.
...as long as everything is configurable. The minute something becomes distracting I should be able to disable it. Forced fancy effects that do nothing but distract you and spin away CPU cycles are a waste.
Oh freakin' jesus, this isn't about lines of code quantity comparison -- The whole point is about the fact that there are a lot of people who WON'T contribute to certain projects simply based on the GPL license. Given your comparison of the Linux kernel and other GNU stuff, if HURD is just as "GNU" as gcc and glibc, then why is HURD next to nowhere in the open source world? Where are the droves of people moving away from Linux to HURD?
BTW, code quantity is in no way an indicator of *quality*. On top of that, some of the projects you mentioned are much older than the Linux kernel. There's multiple metrics you must use if you are going to draw such conclusions. Emacs could be 50 million lines of pure GNU GPL code -- It's still a shitty editor.
No, my statement is true: Philosophy does not yield code. People yield code. I was replying to the statement that the Linux kernel is more popular with both individuals and companies because it is more flexible (from a copyright standpoint) than HURD. This is the same reason why *BSD is popular with some people and companies -- they're not bound to the more restrictive GPL.
Actually, Dual Processor == Dual Core. Really - who the fuck cares about "casing"?
Who cares? Anyone with a fucking clue, that's who. I've got an old dual CPU Pentium motherboard with two 75Mhz chips on them, THEREFORE THEY ARE DUAL CORE JUST AS THE TERM 'DUAL CORE' IS USED TODAY! How about you re-evaluate your perception of reality and get back to us when you aren't a fucking retard.
name one Republican senator that voted against the DMCA (I'll give you a hint, it passed the Senate 99-0). Both parties are just as deeply entrenched in the pockets of the Copyright Industry. Where are all the Republicans clamoring against the DMCA if it was the ohmygosh so evil Democrats loved it? You very well can pin what is today happening (not solely but certainly in a majority part) on the Reps just because they're the ones currently in freakin' charge!

That's 99% of the web right now!
...a headline you will never see.
TMI Hemos!
Or a patent on the same, predictable Slashdot "patent" jokes that get rehashed in every single patent thread.
lol, teh dum
the One Click Launch?
... oh wait ...
Better keep the kids away from the evening news then. It's a violent world out there, so we'd better keep them as far away from reality as possible.
The "state secrets" must apply to Slashdot as well...
Heh, I mean "minded" but I suppose "mined" works in another sense as well... /excessive coffee typo alert

Snape kills Dumbledore.
Then he flew away. SNAPES ON A PLANE!
That kind of anti-Apple talk won't play well around these parts. No matter how right you are.

in any substantial fashion. Philosophy doesn't yield code.

"At one point, JT refers to Microsoft's Flight Simulator as a training simulator for the 9/11 terrorists"
I'm sure the other shareholders will be just thrilled to see this jackass try to ruin the company.
that PHP sucks donkey anuses? That poorly designed, hackish, continually mutating language needs to die. Give it up. You lost the language war.
