  1. No they're not on British Army Looking For Gamers For Their Smart-Tanks · · Score: 4, Informative

They say they want creative soldiers, but they will not achieve this.

The minute they join recruit school, they will have all creativeness beaten out of their brains. The only way to do things correctly in the military is to follow a procedure.

By the time they are in a position of making a decision to use their creativity, they are too old and now there is 8 ranks beneath and 2 above them acting to inhibit their creativity.

    It won't happen.

    I partially agree.

There are two type of people - those who install linux and those who use it. I used to be the first, but ever since my windows partition has utterly died I have had to convert to the second - although it has had its fair share of difficulties. I am using gentoo from stage3 and find it very interesting to read through the countless docs and howto's on the gentoo forums explaining the intricate details of how things work so I can set up my PC exactly how I want it, running very slick. Mind you I have been using linux on and off for server related tasks (not desktop) for the last 5 or 6 years so I am what you would call an intermediate or 'normal' linux user.

However things like printing are utterly hopeless. It took me the best of 5 hours to get my unsupported canon i250 printer working today and browsing countless forums I discovered many users had similar problems. I personally do not think linux should be aiming for the mainstream market for the sake of it, and I would much rather edit my apache configuration in a text editor rather than a GUI, however doing everyday tasks like printing should be way less painful to configure than they currently are.

In fact when I try and tell people to watch FireFly I usually avoid the point of saying it was created by Joss Whedon because straight away it creates a stereotype of what the show is about. FireFly is a great series in its own respect and I am very angry that it was cut short.

That seems pretty stupid. In Australia, the government produces software called 'etax' that goes through step by step asking you your incomes, any deductable expenditures and assets etc. It then calculates how much you owe, which you can then pay/receive the money electronically by giving it your bank details. It takes me about an hour each year to do my personal income tax.

In terms of international law, there are Combatants, non-combatants and protected persons.

Combatants have a whole bunch of rules they follow such as wearing a distinguised uniform, bearing open arms, being in an organisation with its own disciplinary structure (ie military). Also if the citizens of a nation are uprising against oppressors they are combatants too. Once a combatant is captured they must be treated appropriately as a PW (Prisoner of War) and repatriated once the war has finished (this is where the US has failed).

Non-combatants are basically civilians, and protected persons are people like medics and priests who cannot be targeted.

As far as I know, the US Govt has taken all these 'combatants' and locked them up permanently - and not treating them the way the UN demands PW's be treated.

The way the Government has gotten around this is by basically inventing a new type of person called "unlawful combatant" - which is not recognised by UN International law (as in America is not allowed to do this).

rubicks clock is the easiest to solve. I can do ANY setup in 1 minute and 30 seconds...I just had to discover the way to do it each time.

    Say a face looks like:
    1 2 3
    4 5 6
    7 8 9

    1) start by making 1, 3, 7 and 9 12 O'clock (am I confusing you yet!!)
    2) make 6 say 12 by turning 2,3,5,6,8,9 to where 4 was and then turning 2,3,5,6 till 3 says 12, then turning 5,6,8,9 till 9 says 12. Now 6 should say 12. Repeat same process to get 4 to point to 12.
3)Now you need to get 5 to be the same as 8. Say 8 is saying 3 O'clock, and 5 is saying 12 O'clock, turn 1,2,3,4,5,6 anticlockwise 3 ticks, then turn 1,2,4,5 clockwise 3 ticks and 2,3,5,6 clockwise 3 ticks. 5 should now say 3 O'clock (same as 8).
4)Now you need to get 5 & 8 the same as 2. Say 2 is pointing to 1 O'clock, turn 4,5,6,7,8,9 clockwise 2 ticks, then turn 4,5,7,8 anti-clockwise 2 ticks, then 5,6,8,9 anti-clockwise 2 ticks. Now 2, 5 and 8 should all be pointing to the same number, and 1,3,4,6,7,9 should all be pointing to 12 O'clock.
    5) to get 2,5 and 8 pointing to 12, turn every clock clockwise 1 tick, then turn 1,2,4,5,7,8 anti-clockwise 1 tick, then 2,3,5,6,8,9 anticlockwise 1 tick. The whole face should now be 12 O'clock.
    6) Repeat the proceducre for the other side. Note: the good side will not be ruined as only the corner ones will move, and go back to 12 O'clock each time.

    Hope I havn't confused you !
