I don't usually post but I'm very satisfied with my Johncompanies FreeBSD Box

    I pay $65 / Month
    - root on your own server
    - Full FreeBSD Filesystem
    - 2 gigabytes disk space
    - 40 Gigs transfer / Month
    - Firewall access
    - Unlimited tech support
    - We supply the hardware

I'm currently running a very kickass apache box with an incredible uptime (they've been down once and they weren't really down, just a network problem, 90% of my customers were able to still reach the sites)

I'm hosting over 30 domains on there, not low bandwidth either. And I'm probably going to be buying more boxes to setup a web serving cluster as the number of users increases

The support is fast fast fast. I get replies in less than 5 minutes in some cases.

    2) The Author is too cheap to pony up a little bit of dough to send out an animated card.

Since he runs a site and knows the costs behind running a site, one would think he'd be the first to want to SUPPORT a site by signing up.

As for being unable to rip cds, if someone really wants to rip cds and can't even get CD paranoia or someother l33t program to rip the tracks, whats to stop them from recording directly from the Audio Out? "p.s. I am not a citizen of the USA so am just wondering"

That line right there probably answers your question as to why the Air Force doesn't open up their simulators. That's the very essence of National Security right there. To have Military Airports in a game, even if they aren't the exact replicas or layout, is a huge threat.Enemies have to get their knowledge from somewhere, and something like this (even though it would be very cool) could easily be used for harm.

  15. Privacy Enhancing if done right! on McNealy Calls for National ID Card Too · · Score: 1

I forgot who orginally said this (1000 apologies):

"National ID cards (in the US, replacing the mishmash of Social Security, Driver's License, Military ID, blah blah) are actually a privacy enhancing thing, if backed up by the proper regulations.

Right now, in the US, we (ie the individual) have virtually no way of tracking who is tracing us, and identity theft is difficult to trace. There are a thousand and one different places to steal access to, any one of which can be used to forge access to another. And furthermore, there is almost no way to keep track of who accesses what information.

Even if the US put in reasonable privacy laws for the current system, keeping track of all accesses to your information is problematic, at best.

I'd be all for a National ID card, should they pass reasonable privacy laws with it. And my definition of privacy laws is this: I get to control who has access to what information, I decide what information can go in the system, I decide the granularity of info given to people, I own my information, nobody can collect information about me (unless as an unidentifiable part of an aggregate) unless I explicitly permit it, and no one can share any information about me with anyone else. There would be exceptions for court-ordered disclosures for law-enforcement, but that's it.

That system would be great: it would prevent a person with a suspended driver's license in one state from getting a new one in another, while at the same time prevent company A from discovering I like Mary Typer Moore shows by my viewing habits, then selling this info to company B.

Having a properly monitored and regulated central database of personal info is far better than the completely insecure mishmash of crap we have today.

But unless they put in those restrictions, Hell No!"
