  1. End of the world on Study Claims Human Intelligence Peaked Two To Six Millennia Ago · · Score: 1

We're on the decline, but don't bother to change it? You might as well have just said APOCALYPSE and run away screaming.

  2. Big Money Wins Again on In Mississippi: 15-Year Jail Sentence For Selling Pirated Movies and Music · · Score: 1

That's 1 point for the RIAA and 0 for human rights. Seriously, I am going to be afraid to even think about listening to music as it might be thoughtcrime. It's just music. We can't even get a murderer locked up for 15 years unless he causes the jury to throw up. America is not the free place it used to be.

  3. Bloodbath++ on New Technology May Cut Risk of Giving Syrian Rebels Stinger Missiles · · Score: 1

Great idea, and as soon as some 12 year old technologist finds out how to disable it we have a bloodbath.

  8. while(!hasKeyboard) on Apple CEO Likens Surface To Car That Flies, Floats · · Score: 1

I for one am not much for anything that doesn't have a keyboard, that's the primary reason I am attracted to a laptop over a tablet. When you're going to spend money you might as well get a banana AND a peel.

  9. Dear Ubuntu on Ubuntu Asks Users To Pay What They Want · · Score: 1

...and I'll be skipping that step. I've been looking for a good reason to switch for a while--I just don't want to stay up all night reconfiguring my work machine.

  10. These boots were made for walkin' on Starting Next Year, Brazil Wants To Track All Cars Electronically · · Score: 1

Sounds like a lot of not so awesome things with a few good things. We can ticket you easier, know where you are at any time, AND we can occasionally improve traffic patterns as a result.

Noam Chomsky has been known to talk about politics and I think that he should stick with Linguistics. I think as long as he is not depressing like Chomsky and says what he feels but keeps it truthful and funny... well, the world is a better place.

  14. Run until my legs pump batter acid on Ubuntu Will Now Have Amazon Ads Pre-Installed · · Score: 2

Can I not go anywhere without being harassed? Now my own desktop is unsafe. If it is easy to disable or uninstall them then I will not scream about it, but if they are obnoxious then I'll just pick a different flavor linux for use. It's not like there are not other options.

While it's not a terrible idea and I don't particularly mind it, considering how I share a lot of personal information on those same networks... If they are clever they might even find a common topic of interest and skip the whole bit about the weather at 20,000 feet. Why even ask me when all you really want to know is how I feel about Dostoyevsky's narrative style, or about whitespace while coding? That's all I really care about when I talk to people.

  20. Since when have we cared about the world? on SOPA Protests 'Poisoned the Well,' Says Congressional Staffer · · Score: 2

Well if the internet is already broken does America, the land of the 'free and brave' and all that crap, etc. etc., need to jump on the bandwagon? We are supposed to be world leaders, doing what is best for our citizens, but yet we entertain such idiocy. I don't care how the rest of the world does it, honestly. Listening to our internet engineers might be a wise idea. Oh, and if we only understood the bill as well as they do then they are still a joke as far as I'm concerned. It is their job to know the policies they enact and for us to decide if we think they should lose their jobs/lives over their decisions. That's why it's best to ask first, then create laws.

  21. Bah Humbug on Kaspersky Says Lack of Digital Voting Will Be Democracy's Downfall · · Score: 1

My co-worker recently looked up every politician that was running that was NOT in office and that was how he voted. If they were in office they were crap, otherwise they needed a chance. I wonder if this study takes into account the robbers increasing in efficiency and effectiveness with each successive robbery. I know they have a 1 in 5 chance of being caught, but is their 10th robbery as sloppy as the previous 9? I tend to get better at my job, but does this apply to bank robbers? This is likely assuming they don't raise the stakes with each successive robbery, which they tend to do.
