So this is a distributed ID system, that is open source. I'm not sure that this is a good idea, but am willing to try. Hell, anything beats Passport. I think that if Slashdot adopted this (OSDN), it would attain critical mass.
More to the point. How does everyone feel giving up full control of thier car? What about the Mercedes digital brakes? There is no physical link between the pedal and the wheels.
We were promised self driving cars, and we're on the way to it.
I especially like the movies. Those should last all of 30 seconds after people actually RTFA.
The thing I noticed was the lack of mention (other than in the bottom) of the TRS-80. It certainly qualifies as a PDA as much as the other early PDAs, as it has a notekeeper, and I believe a Real time clock. Since it was easily programable, you could use it as a simple scheduler.
I see all these home built Mediacenters, but truthfully, how many average people use these for more than one week. I can see this being a novelty, but do people actually use these for longer than one month?
I can see the use of a TiVo being sustained, but are these homebuilt products mature enough that my mom can use this? (Mom is not very tech friendly)
If I'm going to plop down over a grand for this little thing, (i don't have the spare computers) will i use it?
I made the point a while ago about Google. I know others have said it too. Google is amazing, I rely on Google daily. Before Google went public, I was less afraid of them going bad, but now...I'm not so sure. If Google out grows itself, it becomes Microsoft. If the left hand no longer knows what the left is doing, then its bad news for everyone, especially the consumer. The difference (for now) between Microsoft and Google is that Google is not a standard install on nearly every consumer computer.
Before anyone says "what about thier RIGHTS", let me just say, THEY DO NOT DESERVE RIGHTS. Sex offenders are _by far_ the worst human beings on the face of this planet. I do not consider this harsh enough. If we could get the repeat offenders of ANY crime wear identifing clothing, or marks, I believe it would cut down on repeat offenders. Anyone who went to a Catholic school knows what I mean, shame is the most powerful way to punish someone.
I saw that one too, the Saab with the joystick in the middle console. Even back then, I thought it was a bad idea. There is no way that I would put THAT much trust into a computer system....
And now you don't even get to drive you Benz, its all computer tricks. *sigh*
Hey, I lived in Wisconsin, and up nort', it did get this cold in the winter, and people were fine. Just that little problem of lack of atmosphere. Eh, the flannel shirt's will do.
I'm not sure I can give the patent office any props, they have sunk so far in public opinion that any good press for them is a drop in the bucket of bad press.
This cannot be lauded as a 'step in the right direction' for the USPO, as that big bohemeth has been going down the wrong road for far too long.
I just say "wait a second", it usually works. But I do preface most of my cell phone converstions with "I'm in the car" so they know to shut up when i say "wait a second".
Hmmmm.... I'm going to be modded down as flamebait or a troll, but heres my opinion anyway.
Google is beginning to remind me of Anakin Skywalker, the cute and powerful little tyke whom everyone loves, and everyone thinks is great. But slowly, Anakin becomes a power hungry murdering black mass. For a while now, I've been hearing the Imperial March when I think of Google.
Sorry, have to reply to this obvious Troll. The 40+ mil he spent was private (ie non-government, ie not your) money. If memory serves, the previous administration spend more than that on thier own. BUT ITS OK. I am 100% behind spending personal funds, as they create jobs all over the place. (40 million bucks goes to things like limo drivers, cooks, clean up crew)
Ohh and to try to stay SLIGHTLY on topic, I think the Hubble is obsolete. It may be one of a kind, but it is due to be replaced. Lets just speed up the replacement.
Before people kill me about this, read it through.
Palm does innovate, but they are becoming a niche product. Palm is the Mac of the 2000s (still don't have a good way of saying it.).
Mac came out with a revolutionary device, then a IBM decided it wanted in on the market too. IBM made a different product, more customizable and cross compatible across lots of hardware. Mac innovated with simplicty and good looks.
If you replace all the Mac with Palm, and IBM with Microsoft, it works out pretty well.
Where will Palm go from here? Thats a question the stock holders must be asking themselves, but I believe Palm will hang around, become a hardware/software company and sell more exculsive, more 'fashionable' devices.
The people who buy Palm devices want something that will just do what Palms do, and nothing more. We here at/. aren't the target audience, but thats why Capitalism works.
Most of the time, when I read these "FOUND DEAD" posts, I do a google news search just in case, and well, it did prove fruitful this time. Though completely offtopic.
Anyway, back to studying for a Cell Biology final.

Yea, sorry about that, I didn't bother to check what was in the copy-paste. It was supposed to be this
Sounds very Familiar

30% less?
30% of?
30% more?
30% crappier?
Come on!
Wouldn't you need some sort of sick (large) heat sink to make it run?
Discuss! This seems like a nifty idea. Mount a generator at the end, BAM, power.
Sad but true. A solar Powered flashlight

I've used them for quite a while now, and that is my only affiliation.

Then what is the difference between talking to someone in your car, and talking to someone on a hands free headset.
