Unless the principals have some nice, cheap silicon in their back pockets, AV1 likely won't go anywhere. AVC/H.264 prevailed over VC-1 in part due to reference hardware decoder designs, and HEVC/H.265 already has dedicated decoder chipsets that can fit in the next iteration of smartphones and STBs easily, freeing up GPUs for whiz-bang interface or more critical number-crunching work.
"Several little birdies" have told John Gruber of daringfireball.net that Ziegler is not in the current Apple company directory. Ziegler's Twitter account has been silent for six weeks or so.
in use at my job in 2012 still used 8-inch floppy disk media. When we did a DVD of the 1970s version of Charlotte's Web in 2004, the lab where the original 1 inch Type C videotape was stored also sent us the EIA-608 information on one of those 8-inch floppies.
So you're an introvert. Big deal! Exercise in front of people anyway.
Look, no one's going to make fun of you for going to the gym; in fact, they are more likely to make fun of someone who needs exercise and doesn't go to the gym.
The gym isn't Counter-Strike. No one cares if you're an exercise n00b. In fact, in my experience if you screw up at the gym, someone who knows what they're doing will show you the proper way to exercise so you don't injure yourself.
If you can afford it, and if you really care about your fitness and attractiveness, there is no reason not to go to the gym.
The agreement to sell the plants to Toshiba was made back in Oct/Nov 2007. It was one of the things that IMHO prolonged the format war, because it really looked like Sony was giving up on their flagship platform and taking greenmail. I remember distinctly thinking that maybe I should bite the bullet and get an HD DVD player because of that.
I'm going to buy an Improv Everywhere shirt just so I can go to a Best Buy and mess with people now. Charlie Todd, you have only gotten cooler since college, and I salute you!
Assuming that a month's worth of mobile phone service begins at fifty pounds and that British teens begin service at age 16, the average person can in fact expect to pay one hundred thousand pounds over his or her lifetime for mobile phone service.
The spring of my seventh grade year, I often woke up to the front yard full of trash. Some sort of animal was getting into our trash every night. My parents designated me to clean up the yard when this happened. It got very old very quickly.
On the third straight day of picking up old food cartons and other nasty crap, I built a booby-trap out of fishing line, pulleys, nails, screws and old wooden blocks. When a tripline was triggered, the wood would swing and hit the animal in the side (not hard—these were light wood blocks) and hopefully scare it off for good. It was my own design, and that was kind of cool.
At 5 a.m. the next morning I awoke to a clatter and a yelp. I looked out the window to see a big dog running away in terror. My old wood blocks trailed from the fishing line that the dog had gotten wrapped around his hindquarters.
Nanobots heal instantly. Why cut myself?
My finger's new USB port itches.
Life went on... just not his.
"I'm leaving you," said the toaster.
Thirty cameraphones left no doubt. Touchdown!
Why fight? We love Big Brother.
I have been comparison shopping recently, and believe me when I say there's a big difference in the viewability of the 12" iBook and the 12" PowerBook. The PB has much more contrast and can be viewed from a wider angle.
More than likely, the spammer person ran a corporation, and the corporation owned the car for tax reasons and stuff. Disclaimer: I am not an accountant.
As for your extortion argument... wow. I never thought of that. The terms of most out-of-court settlements are kept confidential by agreement of both parties, and the records are sealed by the court, so neither party CAN go public like you want. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.
Most of the songs on Play were licensed for commercials and movies, exposing them to mainstream audiences who did in fact recognize good stuff. Has 18 been out long enough or been licensed heavily enough to achieve the same kind of market penetration?
Why is this on the front page?

I find it interesting that Lucas is partnering with Sony. Doesn't Fox (the studio that released the SW flicks) have an online entertainment/gaming division? And does this signal a keiretsu-style relationship between Lucasfilm and Sony where Sony becomes an important SW toy licensee? (I'd love to have a Sony lightsaber, myself...)
In an attempt to resolve a problem that has plagued television watchers and cellular phone users in big cities for years, Cisco plans to market technology that essentially harnessesand redirects the voice and data microwave signals that bounce off many obstructions in large cities.
What about rural areas in the Midwest U.S.? Can they take advantage of this? Or rural areas in the Appalachias? Can mountains obstruct signals like buildings? If not, rural mom 'n pop ISPs will not be able to justify the expense, placing rural areas at yet another disadvantage. Still, sounds really cool.

Any word on how this might affect / conflict with Overbridge multi-channel audio signal and production / presentation metadata over USB?

Sometimes explicit tutorials are nice. Take the one in Steamshovel Harry. http://www.e4.com/game/steamshovel-harry/play.e4

Hmmm... this new device sounds like a golden opportunity for Microsoft to fleece its customers.
