Another example; everything is drag'n'drop. I'm composing an email and need a picture from a website? Just drag the pic from safari over in the email totally seamlessly.
Just checked, and the same happens here at work with IE and Outlook.:-)
Google doesn't even provide the full text. You can only browse maybe ~20 pages. And they're even designing the UI to make it hard to automatically grab those few pages. What's their problem with Google anyway?
The internet is an extremely powerful tool, and search engines have simply evolved to the point that they are now "dumb technology". Without more user invervention (and not simply by throwing in more keywords and praying), they will continue to be as they are now.
Yeah, they'll continue falling for users abusing their ranking system. They'll continue falling for users like you and your sig.
Pizza and Coke is common components, along with not being very physically active... That's stuff that can be really unhealthy, for the cholesterol levels etc.
Often, obesity is a consequence of these things too, so I don't really get why they're saying it's not an unhealthy sign.
This comment is probably worth nothing on Slashdot, but they have earlier announced IE 7 will have further security improvements since the initiative they started with it in Windows XP SP2. You may already know this, you may not, but please don't assume just because a few more details were announced, none else had been.
I can't recall any time Opera has had this sluggish servers on release day, so it must've got downloaded quite a bit. And I'm back to Opera too, from Firefox. Why? It's simple really -- configurable RAM cache where your settings are actually respected, 5 MB large software in total, and no XUL stuff slowing things down or eating memory, and a highly standards compliant and secure browser (judging by e.g. Secunia).
It's also rich in basic features Firefox tend to need extensions for without becoming a sluggish piece of bloatware from it.
In this release, it's no longer cluttered either. Something Opera have become a bit infamous for. No cluttered menus, no cluttered toolbars, nada.
The only thing I keep complaining about is its lack of extension (no, not plugin) support. Grrr! Also, while it blocks ads well and is configurable both via filter.ini and any third party filtering proxy, it would be nice to have built-in blocking of Adblock's power and flexibility.
Oh, and that it costs money, or otherwise ad supported. Something that definitely sticks out negatively in the browser market of today.
Even if Google is dominating the internet search business at the moment, and doing that is a powerful position in the information age of today, I find it a bit exaggerated that there's a discussion on how Google may threaten Microsoft Corporation. They make everything from computer mice and game marketing, to maintaining an own development language, and operating systems spanning from the table PC to large datacenters. Let's not forget that.:-) This beast won't go down even if Google one day will overtake 100% of the web and information searches. Well, as long as Google search gives fair results and ranks Microsoft as highly as they should be ranked due to how PageRank works...
Yep, same in Sweden too... And in place since the cassettes here too.
It's a compensation for our fair use laws, it's said. Because you can copy music to your close friends and not violate any laws, they're said to need this compensation.
Yes. I should not have to know a damn thing about driving in order to get behind the wheel.
Oh, wait. That sounds silly, doesn't it?
Yes, as silly as saying that you shouldn't know a damn thing about computers, it should automatically turn itself on when you get seated in front of it. (or some equally extreme car comparison garbage)
-Have to- install? I downloaded one additional theme for Firefox and apart from the occasional plugin such as Shockwave, I never have to do anything to enhance Firefox for daily use.
What you need doesn't apply to everyone.
It's nice that you have everything worked out -- but this is like saying that Internet Explorer is as much of a hassle because of all those security updates you have to download. No thanks.
Actually, it would be nice to easily install one offline bundle to fix up IE instead of doing a million reboots and downloads before it's done.
Why is stealth mode pointed out as special?

It's essential for any respectable firewall, and both e.g. Kerio and ZA even for Windows should have this, and both are available in free versions.
And firewall log?? Hmm, excuse me, but is the news Tiger just got a standard quality firewall or what? That's be more reason to blush than be overjoyed IMHO.
Hmm... Well, space opera's are usually called a special subgenre of science fiction.
Here's a good article about it: space opera. It is summarized there as:
Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes romantic adventure, interstellar travel, and space battles where the main storyline is centred around interstellar conflict and character drama.
OK, seriously, it'll be interesting to see what comes out from Redmond there. I'm surprised that them working on a new shell hasn't spawned a ton of bad jokes about it already.;-)
If our lives depended on saving the ozone in a hurry, I'm sure it could be done.
Hmmm, not sure what you mean with "in a hurry", as ozone depletions aren't exactly happening overnight.
The ozone layer is having documented problems, and we have already had increased levels of skin cancer. The change will likely slowly continue, but the reason I believe not much will be done about it is because it's a slow change, and we're then more likely to adapt to it instead of change it. Only seeing the effects when someone in 100 years from now look back and laugh about people tanning on beaches for hours.
If this is actually anyones world view then why are they not raping and murdering (perhaps they are??).
First, humans are infamous to murder (i.e. "kill intentionally and with predermination") their own species on a large scale, and the term usually used is "war", and it's all actions actively supported by many via e.g. elections. Raping also happens here, and is well documented. If it's not about war, death penalties are also popular means to end lives.
If you're speaking of murdering people you personally know or care about, without any morale or ethics, I'm pretty sure there's a part in your brain that makes it natural to not randomly kill people you either care for or don't care about, since otherwise our species would've had far less survival value, killing it even before we got to the stage of introducing religions.
While this is certainly true, it doesn't really matter how cheap a show is to produce if no one will watch it. Somewhere out there, somebody is watching this crap. And they're fucking it up for the rest of us.
Yes, this is correct. Unfortunately, for reality TV to bring in some good money, fewer people need to enjoy it because it's cheaper to produce. *sigh*
It's like somewhere out there, someone is buying stuff in spam mails.
Yeah, but guys, you have to remember: basically every single page in that book was funny.
No, of course not. You can't cover an entire book in a movie. Even the 4 hour extended cuts of the LOTR movies didn't. However, with a movie like this you should be able to expect more or less clever jokes in almost every scene.
It looks a bit weird yes. I mean, what's the purpose of it?
Out of curiosity I went to dw.com.com with Firefox, and "view source" gave me what seemed to be a part of a / a malformed GIF header?? Visiting the same site in IE gave me 403: access denied.
Microsoft does not change the license of Encarta, that is their right and a lot of people will be willing to accept that they have to pay for something they wrote. Or that they are not allowed to share the texts they contributed to.
*sigh*
If Wikipedia got exclusive rights to the material for all my hard work of writing and correcting the articles, I wouldn't contribute to them in the first place.
I don't want to work for just one company without getting paid. It's a whole different thing with Wikipedia, since I know it'll benefit ANYONE who wish to re-use the material.
Apple yesterday patented "a method to parse a URL and display a corresponding premade JPEG file on a match". ;-)
Actually, it's "poor journalism".
:-(
But unfortunately, few cares nowadays if what they're reading is good or bad journalism.

And that's exactly how you shall write in a Slashdot article to be sure people will miss them.
