"Probably a little over paranoid, but not much. In reality I'd probably be a bit less paranoid than that, but I'd definitely move a few hotels down to do anything more serious than checking text messages."
actually given that this is DEFCON we are talking about you might be just being "safe" given the mix of TLAs and "interested parties" you might be on to something.
You Do Not Point Guns At LEOs (unless you really mean to shoot) it is an automatic response for that officer (and any nearby officers) to shoot if they think you are going to pull the trigger.
and grab the AutoPatcher offline patch set while you are at it so you can get the post sp3 patches installed before you go online for the first time (hint MSSE comes as part of the last few patch sets)
heck i would bet that say an eight pound sledge would have you bypassing the walls directly (yes this would be a very literal brute force attack) in most buildings.
"Well if Open Office really produced 100% Word compatible documents then the problem would be solved. 98% or so just isn't enough"
The problem is that even if it was possible to have 100% Word compatible documents in OO (or LO) you have to specify WHICH WORD YOU ARE REFERRING TO
1 Platform (Windows which version or Macintosh which version) 2 which fonts were used in the documents?? 3 Which EXACT version of Word are we talking about?? (include patch levels) 4 what printer was default/active when the document was made?? 5 what was the Phase of the Moon when the document was saved?? 6 which way and at what speed was the wind blowing?? 7 and so on and so forth
Word is not 100% compatible with its own previous/cross platform documents so how in the Ech Eee Double Hockeysticks does everybody expect a third party program to be any better (especially with the TOP SECRET BURN BEFORE READING bits in the specs for Office Native Formats)??
teach them OS Basics,Word Processing and Spreadsheets (along with other "common application types") so that they can figure out Word 2020 and Excel 2020 by themselves.
I would say as geeks our greatest gift to Education (other than ourselves) would be a Mass Storage Device with a copy of the Portable Apps Platform and a buncha apps (like *Office and VLC and Gimp and Audacity).
beginning in preschool "Education" has a small number of goals
1 teach a kids that they can learn (and should do so) 2 teach them how to get knowledge 3 teach them how to "fill in the edges of the map" (if "there be dragons" beyond this point find out what kind and how many are there)
everything else is just drum beating (and providing resources)

easy fix for that have a rule that the password can not be changed for 7 days after it has been changed (and in some instances Fire somebody for trying this trick)
figure out exactly how much "damage" would be reasonable for a kid at say 4-6 7-9 10-12 and then when a lawsuit comes down the pike that is within those guidelines stamp the papers
DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE
and then go on to the next case
to expect that a kid of 5 should never get so much as a skinned knee is beyond stupid
now if the kid has her own mug in the local ER that is a problem
i know that at least FireFox has an addon called Long Url Please (i have it installed) and i would bet that similar extensions exist for those browsers run by folks that would care about such things.

want to know how to tell that a audio disc is in fact a "real" cd?? look for the Compact Disc Digital Audio logo (may not be present on some real cds but will be absent from any "fake" cds)
trying to cover all the points that need to be addressed
1 we need to have an objective read on exactly how much radiation is used during the scans (even if its a range due to scanning kids verses scanning an NFL Linebacker)
2 the problem of stored pictures (that these things are capable of storing any images is a problem)
3 false positives and false negatives (these things are not even close to perfect and will miss some things and pickup other things)
4 TSA agents getting "happy" over either the images or the post "issue" strip search (or in the case of stored images keeping images to get "happy" later)
5 the whole issue of this being 99.99999% theater when other measures are even better and more effective (like sealing the cockpit door and having armed agents on the plane)
6 "stuff" going missing during the check procedure (an agent deciding to E-Bay items grabbed from the bins DURING HIS SHIFT!!!)
7 parts of The Protocol the even the worst "StormTrooper" would have shot his commanding officer over being told to do
8 confusion over what The Protocol is ( scanning not scanning kids separating kids from guardians having Medical Devices ripped from people ect)
actually i think a rifle would not be the correct weapon for on board.
1 a handgun would be easier to control (even if it was some sort of automatic) 2 batons and stunners would make the whole confession extraction part a lot easier (live capture of these prats is the goal)
And as to the Bomb Threat thing
Thats a pre-9/11 concern and is no longer a serious problem (unless you are being paid off by scanner OEMs).

or if you really want to end things quickly
1 ring up the NYPD and ask them to send some officers to help (and tell them they can bring friends with them)
2 do the same with the LAPD
3 start ringing up Pubs in the area to get "local talent"
i would think that things would wrap up quickly after that (and the local pubs would be PACKED afterwards)
any lineman that should be sticking his paws anywhere near KV lines should be putting a volt meter to the lines first.
But yes you should either have a pro do the install or the OEM should be making sure that a half blind idiot can install this properly

okay so you need to design a water cooling/purification system that can be used to power a "communication station"
(even if the water leaves the system a bit heated if its PURE when it is output it can be cooled for use)

better would be to find a good common vertical point and then
1 drill into the floor of the second floor and drop the cable down
2 drill into the floor of the first floor (and repeat)

1 when you get your motorcycle endorsement you will have to report to the office WITH YOUR HELMET(s)
2 they will issue you (and charge you for) some sort of bar code sticker to be placed on your helmet so that photo id systems can recognize (you)
3 make it illegal to use an "unregistered" helmet
heck this would even be useful if they did a check of the helmet at the same time (for fitness of use ect)

Lets call it "The War on Stupid/Ignorance"
in fact this could replace the War on Drugs (and a few other things) if done properly.
