Here's something I've been wondering for the past few years.
When on earth will people learn that no matter HOW GOOD your intensions are; the only thing that simply CAN NOT be stuffed down people's throat, is freedom and the concept of freedom.
You can not force people to be free, they can only be free if they really want to be free.
You know, there is a slight difference between catching around 50 minke whales (arguably the most abundant whale species) per year and catching over 200 beluga whales like Alaskan inuits do, or over 1000 beluga whales and 3-400 narwhals like Canadian inuits do per year.
As an Icelander I'll admit that I'm not 100% against whaling, but I'm fine with it since the quota is only 50-60 whales per year and the quota is limited to one of the most abundant of whale species.
Even though I have some arguments against whaling, I couldn't even dream of some of the arguments that most of the environmentalists come up with.
When paging through some of the literature that organizations like Greenpeace (which is, apart from this little difference of opinion, a fine organization) print out, I almost get the feeling that there is simply one species of whales in the oceans, and it's simply called "Whale".
Bear in mind that catching whales has been as much a part of Icelandic history for the past 1100 years as it has been a part of Inuit history for the same period; so any claims that due to history and their "way of life" that inuits have some higher claim to catching whales than we Icelanders have, they will simply be filed in with the "do it because we say so" arguments.
If he'll have his way, then it won't be long before all the harddrives will come with a preloaded filter which automatically inserts Ewoks in all filmed scenes!
Is that the company I saw mentioned in 60 Minutes some 4-5-6 years ago?
All I remember about the story on it in 60 Minutes was something like that, it was a large privatly owned company with a phenominal growth while retaining a low employee turnover and being able to offer all employees unbelievable perks.
In rdesktop for X11, Terminal Services client for windows and the remote desktop client in XP or 2k3 server you simply kill the client. That is if you're running the remote desktop client in XP to connect from machine A to machine B; exit the client on machine A.
My favourite part about the Remote Desktop the fact that it's like screen(1) in that I can start an application and then leave it running while I disconnect from it. Then when I have moved to another location I can connect and the application is running right where I left it.
So, instead of deploying a single file,... or perhaps two files (one a basic configuration telling the application server where the hell the database machine is at). You actually prefer deploying a bunch of files, which can all be inconsistent (since they're most likely put in place by a human on the server, and humans have sometimes forgotten to include just-this-one-file when deploying), instead of minimising the inconsistency down to a couple of files?
I suppose you also keep a list of phonenumbers written down on several bits of paper in your pocket instead of having them in your phonebook in your mobile phone, or a mini-phonebook at worst?
I hope you do enjoy this work-method. I, and many others however, wouldn't be cought dead working like this.
I have a dedicated machine at home whose sole purpose in life is to act as a DHCP server, DNS server, NAT gateway and a webserver. The fact that I'm posting this reply is a good indicator that it's working properly.:)
I have weird problems with blue lights. At night, I can focus on most things, but am unable to focus on blue LEDs or lights.
Regarding the blue LEDs. I haven't had a lasik surgery (yet anyway) but I am nevertheless unable to focus on blue LEDs so that they become as focussed as other LEDs. This happens regardless of whether I'm wearing glasses or contact lenses or not at all.
So, running Battlefield 1942 and its mods is not an excuse?
M'kay.
No, one is a scary looking clown, the other is a scary looking bald gorilla.
This is indeed a pretty cool feature on a search engine. I wonder when Google will add this calculator to its site.

A nit to pick but...
That band would of course be Sigur Rós whose list of albums includes Ágætis Byrjun.
Somebody put a turbine in the grave of Charles Darwin!
What this guy is going to attempt to pull off will generate at least 10 megawatts!
Another possible and easy loophole.
:-)
Write buggy software yourself! 10 pieces of software each, each one solving an easy problem and each one exploitable in the same way.
Just release it as open source and you're good to go!
I actually noticed when I started my car the other day that the odometer read: 44444 km. For me, that was interesting enough to take a picture of. :-)

Some IDE's also easily identify blocks for you.
In Eclipse, if you doubleclick on a line that's opening or closing a block, it automatically highlights the block in question.

Funny, the only time I notice any lag with my mouse is when I have a mouse connected to the PS/2 port.
Whether said mouse is a PS/2 native (i.e. only has a PS/2 plug) or a USB mouse with a PS/2 converter.
DHCP + DNS + NAT mix like oil and water.
:)
Perhaps you could tell me what you mean by this?

Don't people usually disable the onboard soundcard whenever they install a second one?
There should be an option to disable it in your BIOS
Just remember that without the U.S., you wouldn't be passing your TCP packets.
And without that little European institute called CERN and a British chap by the name of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, you wouldn't be reading this.
dip?
*pfft*
In my day we dialed up with minicom and then fired off pppd and we liked it!
</rant>
i'd be drunk 24/7
In other words, nothing would change?
I hope not, cmd.exe's autocompletion annoys me to no end!
That and cmd.exe's paging through command history.

Nope, it was DOS 6.0 if I recall correctly.
DOS 6.0 also came with a nice help system which still beats the pants of the evil creation that is known as info(1).
I actually tried a couple of weeks ago to purchase Winamp Pro. For some reason, if I'm from Iceland, I'm not allowed to purchase Winamp Pro.
