  1. Bugs in Ubuntu on Ubuntu Linux vs. Mac OS X · · Score: 1

Why does the default email client, Evolution, intentionally make it impossible to save files with international (Japanese) filenames?

Why do USB headsets not work behind a USB 2.0 hub?

How come unmounting a USB hard drive from the GUI reports an error, but then maybe works?

Why is audio device configuration so difficult? How do you choose your default audio output device with ESD? Compare that to Mac OS X...

Why is monitor re-configuration not immediately obvious or just automatic?

Laptop sleep mode does not "just work."

It looks flashy at first, and it seems about 95% "ready," but it is not as seamless an experience as OS X.

  18. Re:Why is the US so far behind in wireless? on 3G Cel Service Starts in Japan · · Score: 1

I just flew to Belgium for a couple weeks, where wireless is EVERYWHERE and just about everybody has a cellphone. I hear at least 2 or 3 phones ring every hour that I'm in public. Sometimes more like 5 or 6. At home in central new york, I hear one or two. Population wise this place isn't much denser than new york.

But you see cell towers everywhere. And they are ugly. I've heard people bitch and moan about how ugly they were, and they are right. So I think that the appearance of adequate cellphone coverage is one reason we don't have them in the US.

Also, Europe has metered landline phones. You pay per minute. So you pay per minute on a cellphone too, that eliminates one more reason that americans don't like cellphones.

    Just a few thoughts..

I've got a Fujitsu Lifebook (B series) with a touchscreen. It is a GREAT input device for web browsing. It is not good for long periods of work. It is just plain not comfortable to look at the same place that your hands are for long periods of time. Either my neck hurts if I look down, or my arms hurt if I move them up.

Not much I can do about it. I don't think that many really productive systems will ever evolve that require you to look at where your hands are. We've all learned to touch type so we don't need to do that. Also for speed. But try looking down at your keyboard for 8 hours a day and you'll see.

Or could it just be that we're so used to this that anything else is uncomfortbale??
