I seem to remember reading somewhere last week that Google was thinking about opening their own E-Bay similar marketplace (a move deserving of FARK's "obvious" tag). I wonder how much of the decision to open the API has to do with the fact that Google will certainly open theirs when it gets up and running.

  12. Geeks & Poker on Geeks and Poker? · · Score: 1

The real question here is how geeks can use their skills to win huge on online poker. In the lower level games much of the play is very formulaic (especially in limit holdem). Because the players are so bad (loose and passive) you can almost literally get away with just playing a certain set of hands and almost always come out on top. If you can manage small wins consistently and then start playing several tables simultaneously you could make big bucks.

The key is automation. While you wouldn't need to automate the whole process, you could certainly write an application that would screen out (fold) most hands and only alert you when certain profitable situations arose, allowing you to intervene. If you could play 10+ tables at a time using this type of system I don't think it's unreasonable to make $50+ hr.

    Just a thought.

Which is why most casinos use 6 decks at blackjack. which lowers your odds of winning even with card counting signifigantly.

Actually, that is incorrect. According to the book Bringing Down the House when a single deck goes toward your favor, the odds only last for a couple hands. There's really not time enough to take advantage of the remaining highcards because the low number of total cards only lets the disparity last for a few hands. However, if you're playing with 6 decks, the swings can last much longer, giving you even more time to take advantage of the deck being stacked in your favor.

    I agree, unfortunately Rand didn't.

For me, my logic simply won't let me believe that everything around me is the circumstance of cosmic chance. Vegas is an empire built on the fact that even when you only have a slight advantage, the odds still work out in your favor. For me, the chances upon chances that would be required for the end result that is our society today simply do not compute if left up to chance.

However, Rand's argument is that you cannot feel, see or hear God, and thus only a fool would leave up to faith that which their logic and reasoning could not prove. I really like the basis for her arguments, I just don't follow them to the same conclusion.

As far as the "literal bible" thing... what so many forget is that the bible is a translation of the original Greek (new testament) and much gets confused in it. For example, the greeks have some absurd number of words for "love"... we have but one. In any such translation, there will be things that if taken literally or out of context, will lead to difficulties.
