I can see your argument, but the simple fact is that most of the exploits out there on the web were written to generate money, not kudos. Ignoring if mac really is more secure or not (btw, you might want to look at how many vulnerabilities they recently patched), the simple fact is that at some point it's going to end up on some mafia-esque hacker's radar and that's when the stream of viruses and vulnerabilities will appear.
Same thing with firefox. Initially it wasn't worth bothering with, and everyone said it was super secure. Then the flood of vulnerabilites started getting patched, and they're still being found. Turns out that software is insecure... pretty much all of it.
*Disclaimer: I run firefox, I develop on Windows and Mac boxes.
You know, if you do it all the time sex can indeed be boring. It's only the people that aren't getting enough of it (Married men / stereotypical geeks) that think otherwise!
I hate to say it, but it could also be that your friend isn't very good at his job. It's not a flame or anything, it's just that I run my own business too and I've seen as many people go bust because they aren't any good as I've seen people become millionaires and not have a clue what they're doing.
This isn't about pirates putting independant record labels out of business. Hell, indie labels are least affected by this sort of thing and in some cases have used the technology themselves to help generate interest in their artists.
If you feel strongly about this, don't bother mailing capcom, don't bother writing here and don't bother signing internet petitions.
If you really want to hurt Capcom, hit up all of the retailer sites that allow you to post reviews on the products for sale. Write a polite review stating that you like / dislike the game and explain the issue with SDTV and that capcom wont fix it. Rate the game as appropriate to your feelings. Save your review somewhere and simply copy / paste it into every store you can find. When you've finished doing that, go to some of the review sites like gamespot and you can do the same.
Of course, one person doing it wont make a difference. But a bunch of people will start to move averages and will probably get noticed.
Seems to me it's mainly a hangover from the cartridge days when there were often shortages on game launch day. Doesn't make a lot of sense these days as I can usually walk into my local supermarket and pick up new launches with no hassle.
The company I work for offers email services to our clients. We've had hardware failures of course, but then we also have our backups so that in the worst case you're going to lose a day (or whatever it is) of mail. So where were the backups in this case? Sure, it costs money to backup mail... but having seen the reaction from businesses when a day of mail is lost, I'd hate to be in the firing line if we lost more than that.
Or am I missing the point and actually 700gb of mail was just one day?
Seems to me that all operating systems are insecure which is why most professionals lock them down, install hardware firewalls and add antivirus. I'm probably wrong, but has there ever been an operating system that didn't have major security flaws at one point or another?
...you know, the ones where it's physically impossible to stand upright unless you're holding on to something
The very best players can do all the songs (maybe not to AAA) without bar humping. You'll find it's a very popular flamefest on DDR sites where both sides of the issue are argued fiercely. =) Personally I prefer the challenge of no bar, but to each their own.
Well, currently blu-ray doesn't have a greater capacity because they're only shipping single layer (25gb) discs compared to hd-dvd's dual layer (30gb) discs. It does certainly have the higher theoretical capacity though.
Same here. I actually got given the matrix on DVD before I had a DVD player.:) I think I paid about the equiv of $250 for the player at the time. Blu-ray and HD-DVD have a long way to drop in price before I'll consider them.
Have to agree with you there. At this stage in my career I'm a bit of a jack of all trades (master of some!). I have a software engineering degree which was mostly java but in the real world I mainly found myself doing databases and web apps so I retrained to MCSD / MCDBA. I do back ends mostly, and I'll freely admit that the idea of doing the HTML / CSS brings me out in a bit of a cold sweat. Don't get me wrong, I can do it, the tech is fairly easy, but I'd be much happier handing it over to someone specialised.
I can't do graphics, and to be honest I'm not very good at making anything pretty. Plus, if I was to train exclusively to be able to handle all the various css hacks I'd need to know, how to create graphics and how to interpret client visual needs etc then I doubt I'd be half the backend developer I am now. So yeah, I'll leave the designers to handle the interface side of things while I deal with the meat. Nothing wrong with admitting that you can't do everything to the level that you would demand of yourself. =)

You seem to have a strong opinion. Have the conviction to post without hiding behind AC.
Or maybe you do a job much like everyone else and there's nothing special about you at all short of the size of your ego. Ignoring that, what the hell is cool about writing multimedia apps or hacking embedded code? I think you've been living the geek dream too long.
Thing is though, when people do things like that, it's more often than not to protect the values of their property (and make it go up in some cases). No-one wants the next big housing development in their back yard. Screw the poor bastages that can't buy houses near where they work because of prices due to shortages.
This is more an issue in the UK though. Sad thing is we already have land that you can't develop, hard to develop, normal and then you have sites you pretty much get paid to develop (ex-industrial). Don't get me wrong, I'm right behind protecting certain land, to the point of protesting it. But lets not make people out to be heros when the likelyhood is it's just greed talking as usual.
Just because any chance I get to have MLW jumping around the TV set in a cute little tennis outfit is a good day for me :)
I think you just found yourself a sig!
I don't disagree, I think the 360 is dead in Japan, but... I recently saw these polls:

Doesn't make the slightest bit of sense to me.
I think you should probably have been stroking a white cat when you were thinking of that post... =D
Read my sig. That was actually fairly funny, so you shouldn't have hidden behind AC! =)

Yeah, I must admit... guilty! =)

I see what you are saying, but the fact is Apple proved this week that OSX can be just as insecure as any XP machine: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304 063

Good for them, they can continue buying this crap like they bought laserdisk until the price drops...

Stupid lack of mod points. Insightful post above. =)
