The only correction you need is a more bottom line oriented aproach to dealing with large corporations. If it does not help the bottom line then it's not going to cut it. It all comes down to making the shareholders happy.
In that role Linux makes shareholders happy because they don't have to pay the windows license fees for 1500 boxes that no one sits in front of. Then do it again in 4 years when M$ will only support the newest and greatest yet windows release. Not to mention the 100 MCSE's they would have to hire just to maintain them and keep the virus' and worms out of them.

    This is the bottom line.

    Firewall and nat box.
    Windows file sharing.
    Appletalk file sharing.
DHCP server for a small network.
    FTP server.
Apache web server with php and mod_perl.

    Email Virus scanning.
    Network print server.
Virus scanning of network connected Windows OS's.
    SSH server.
More cron jobs than I can remember.
    Unlimited client connections.

All this on a single 300mhz pentium II with 256MB of ram and
a single 8GB scsi hard drive. This is the most abused
Linux box I have ever created. Longest uptime 6 months. Has never been hacked. Running this setup close to 4 years.

Until Microsoft has a system that can do all this and not cost
a literal fortune there is nothing going on but FUD, smoke and

I could just use the console but since a GOOD web browsing experience requiers the X system I use KDE. On the other hand on all the servers I administer I use the console. I hope this opens the way for a greater integration of kde with the other apps Slackware provides.

Sometimes I use it to play games (unreal tournament 2004). When going from the game to the desktop the system take 4 minutes to recover under WinXP (yes I have timed it). The system has 512mb of memory and a 1gb swap under WinXp. Granted the 4200 rpm drives have a little bit to do with this problem. Linux however NEVER EVER takes this long for anything and that includes playing UT 2004. I run it under linux too and the recover time is less than 30 seconds. The linux system only has 512mb of swap. Let me say this one more time Windows XP swap code sucks.
