I hope this move to online music stores does not eventually end CD sales. This service should remain offered alongside physical CDs. Even though much of the music I listen to while at my PC is ripped from my own CDs, I do listen to music elsewhere a lot. My car and stereo will not play anything but CDs.
Should it not be called HisOrHerTunes instead of MyTunes? After all, if downloaded from someone else, they aren't mine as in MyTunes. Even better, the software could probably be called, WeDon'tKnowWhoLegallyObtainTheseFirstTunes.
Yeah, that is funny and shouldn't have been modded down. As for warranty coverage, it would likely be considered customer abuse and be exempt as a result.
Oh I wish the world media outlets would ignore SCO vs The World, because I am so tired of hearing and reading about it. I just don't understand how SCO's extorting tactics are legal.
You are so correct. Waste, although convenient at times, is bad. I hate how society seems to care less and less everyday about the future state of the world. Everything is limited. Landfills will be tomorrow's (un)natural resources similar to the coal mines, oil and natural gas reserves, etc we rely on today. Mining these will be where some companies will make a lot of money down the road.
Hey, so many seem to wonder why they should care. After all, they won't have to suffer through it. Well, because our descendents will, and we should could give a damn about them.
Keep quiet, that may very well be a way around the new federal "Do Not Call" list. The telemarketer techincally did not call if while placing an outgoing call it was routed to them by a participating telco instead of the number dialed.
Yes they could enable it again with an update down the road. Installing a security/bug fix could also include other bad features like this crap. The user would have no choice if he wants or needs the fix.
I now expect this hijacking and redirection to be adopted by other companies and used to serve up ADs on a more regular basis. Thank God that there has only been one firmware update(v1.20) release for my SpeedStream(Siemens/Efficient Networks) router since I bought it 2.0 years ago.

P.S. I'm not really happy about there being only one firmware update. I would like to be able to extend it myself.
I rarely use the Windows Search function to search for my personal stuff, because I am always aware of where I save it. I use it to find missing DLLs instead.
I just don't get this push to index everything and make it searchable. For example, SQL Server-based filesystem. Joe User still won't be able to find his crap!

This is a great rant, because it is very true. Linux will never be more than a geek's OS unless it becomes less of one. This is perfectly fine if the community wants for the OS to never enter the Joe Home User install base.
Users are not going to adapt to Linux, because Windows does what they want in a familiar and easy way. Linux must adapt to them. It must become very consistent on so many levels, easy and familiar. This is reality.
IMHO, the community seems to be waiting for Joe Home User to adapt to what is different when do so is painful.
No it won't, because regardless of what Linux is capable of now or down the road, this will not happen unless something significant happens to Microsoft's marketing machine. Linux will get no where in the desktop space without a UNIFIED and powerful marketing powerhouse.
People have to be convinced that moving to Linux is the right thing to do. People have been forever in the belief that Windows is the right thing, because Microsoft has convinced them of this.
SCO may have just picked the wrong fight. The federal government has endless resources for fighting legal battles over SCO's new extortion-based business model.
Radio has been paying for listeners for as long as I can remember. The games, contests, prize packs, be caller 12 for movie passes, etc are all used to get you to listen to them instead of another station. Microsoft is just doing the same thing.
That Dom would be a lot more expensive had it come with a very price-at-a-loss wine cooler. The OEMs make the money by selling the ink and toner cartridges.
Is searching for files really something people are doing so often that an improved method for doing it is so needed? When searching for files, it generally is for missing DLLs, not docs, audio files, etc.
The Windows search function has been working for me just fine. Media Player in XP sufficiently manages my music files. I keep my user data organized and am constantly aware of where I store new files. So, again, what is reason for this wham bam new WinFS?
I normally only use port-a-johns at music festivals where a bunch of other beer drinking guys have already been...already been pissing all over everything because they could not see in the dark. Besides, with the smell, would you really want to wait around for Windows to reboot. I wouldn't!

Why can't Microsoft's target user base use a simple method of organizing their audio, video, documents, um...user data files in general?
... ...
It is so easy to do. You know something like this.
