If you have a ticket you can't use, you can't sell it in the paper (or on eBay). There used to be all kinds of classified ads for airplane tickets for sale. No more. It's economics, not security.

For some reason I don't but this argument...

I can see the situation where someone has their ticket stolen, but that is a security reason.

  12. Re:Speeding up Firefox the right way on Browser Speed Comparisons · · Score: 1

    Try this:

    user_pref("config.trim_on_minimize", false);

It supposedly prevents Firefox from "giving up" the memory it was using when you minimize it, and therefore should prevent the disk thrashing and delay you experience when restoring the window after a long period of time.

Windows will still take the memory if it really needs it, though.

There IS an alternative solution, though. It involves increasing the earth's albedo - the reflectiveness of the atmosphere and surface. Now, the earth already has a mechanism to do this: storms. Clouds have a high reflectiveness, and storms also kick up the ocean, producing whitecaps.
Contrails from aircraft have an impact on Earth's albedo. There are quite a few strange people out there who believe the U.S. government (at least) is using "chemtrails" to the same effect. /shrug

A number of sci-fi stories involve invading alien civilizations bent on raping Earth for its natural resources. Fortunately, that kind of situation will probably remain firmly in the realm of sci-fi. Unfortunately, that's probably because there won't be anything left worth taking.

Besides... What's the likelihood that humans become one of those planet-hopping civilizations down the road?
  15. Re:Why I like the suite on Mozilla 1.7.5 Released · · Score: 3, Informative
Type ahead fine works better in the suite. I prefer a links only search if i just start typing, with / for the fulltext. Firefox always does fulltext.
Starting with a (') in Firefox will do a links-only TypeAhead Find.

There is also an [unfortunately hidden] option called accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly. Setting this to true does exactly what you want.
Type ahead find doesn't work in the View Source window of FireFox.
    Works for me...
Too many options have been removed from the preferences window in FF/TB. The new design isn't very usable for the more complicated tabs (such as Advanced).
I agree. This was actually one of the main reasons I stuck with Mozilla up until the 1.0 release of Firefox. For me, now, the positives outweigh this negative, but it is still a little disheartening to see an almost inconsistent and non-intuitive Options window...
I like right clicking a link in an email and selecting "Open in New Tab".
Tools -> Options... -> Advanced -> Tabbed Browsing -> Open links from other applications in: (*) a new tab in the most recent window.
