    For instance:
Just now I'm working on a software agent that automates information retrieval and update via the web. It's a long row of subsequent tasks that have do be followed by the book in a very procedural manner. Meaning I would call the resulting Software a 'script' more than an actuall 'programm'.
Now if some time later we move on to build a more general information agent 'engine' I'll do it in 'serious' OOP, separating the regex-runner, scancycler and whatnot in different classes. Easy done with the very same language as I'm using Python (yep, here Perl goes byebye...).
Until then I just need a working system and anything more than JIT compiled Python in scriptstyle - as opposed to precompiled/frozen post-Python binary - would be a hideous bloat. Same if I would be using Java for just that.
    Bottom Line:
To me anyone who, for whatever reasons, draws a line between 'scripters' and 'programmers' is a silly goof that really doesn't know what he's talking about.
Oh, and btw.: OOP is also about working with a team. The extra OOP bloat is easyly outrun by the teamworks productivity gain. If the programm is overseable and done by one alone it could look very much more like a script and be just as good.

When I feel like having a little break I fire it up and play 2 - 3 matches at most, all usually no longer than 15 minutes each.
Actually playing an FPS like UT2k3 in CTF (capture the flag) mode can been either very difficult or boring, depending on the people you've got on the server.
The only essential difference in 'gaming-nature' I see to a game like B-a-M or Tetris is the fact that it only is interresting as a goal-orientated multiplayer and that it has more controls than a n00b can grasp imediately.
There is point though that games like ut2k3 in popular modes like CTF can be very frustrating when trying to reach a skilllevel that is able to compete with expierienced players. Coming in a public server as completely new to the game seems somewhat pointless if no one gives you some help and advice along the way. Sort of like competing with Kasparov in Speed-Chess.
That's probably the most outstanding feature that keeps the occasional-gamer away from choosing FPS as their past-time.
The need to compete not with brick-dropping algorythyms but with real people that can plot and plan ahead and are far more challenging (& fun) than any AI could ever be. But also has a higher 'entry' threshhold.

Everything that article says is so very true.
And there is still one thing I might want to add:
The reason for going to a University should be that you want to learn, not that you want a degree. If you can't gain that amount of self esteem (spelling???) without a degree it's almost shure a degree isn't the right thing for you. That probably is more so when studying an art.

For now I don't give a shit what papers or titles people have. They hardly mean zilch apart from showing their ability to walk the treadmill.
What counts is what ones self is willing to do and what ones self considers a great achievement or a poor performance. It's difficult, requires honesty but in the long run get's you farther. I bet that's the common demoninator all the people we call 'originals' have.
