    It's always good to see someone else picking up the fight to eliminate spam, but honestly, your process seems like it will have me fishing through my spam folder looking for legitimate emails just as much as I fish through my inbox looking for legitimates.

    All your criteria seems to be something that I regularly see in (legitimate) emails...

    It's definitly not a 'quick fix'... but if the jobs aren't available, and he's a hardworker and dedicated, it can be done without other's big bucks... I agree with you that it's not the easier option of the two if jobs are available though.

    Where do you think the money comes from when you start a company? That's right, investors. Now, if you can't find a job, what the hell makes you think that you're going to be able to find investors?

    Many companies come to mind that made it without trying to convince some stranger to loan them a bunch of money before they've proven themselves in what they do... some that might be familiar: apple, microsoft, dell...

    Traditional thinking tells you you need some hefty investment to make something work, where as a determined mind will tell you that you can do it, out of a spare bedroom, doing odd-jobs on the side in the evening...

    Then you're fictional conversation could quickly become "Hmmm.. You've been working hard on this for the last year, successfully. You have a great product, and with our experience in running a company, business plan, and leadership, you'll go far... "

    Good luck to ya. From what I see, smart individuals with the willpower to stick it out, and some selling ability, will do fine doing this... even in this economy. So more power to ya!

    How many linux distro's do we need anyways? I mean, are we gaining anything when 3 linux distro makers join together to make another one while still working on their own?

    Doesn't matter, really.. I'm sure they log the ip handouts, and would know who had what ip at what time if they were forced to look.

    The big ISP's wouldn't destroy their logs on their own, and they wouldn't turn off logging, and it's a crime to destroy them after subpeona'd... So you really gain nothing.

    erm, I wasn't being sarcastic about the numbers, I just found it funny that you posted numbers (regardless of where you got them...)

    Given your 100w=1 birdy (again, regardless of where you got it), I found it funny that the article is posted in a medium that survives on electric signal, and pointed out all the birdies that were dying in the process here..

    So get over yourself, I wasn't attacking you...

    It's easy to complain about product liability lawsuits. But without them, companies would feel even more free to sell dangerous products.

    And people would still continue to buy them. McDonalds was selling that hot coffee for quite some time, at that 'unsafe' temp, and she had purchased the MickeyD's coffee before, so she knew it was that hot, but she kept buying it, then she got burned and sued... MickeyD's should have been fined, to protect the future innocents, that lady should have been tossed out of court.

    "Wow, this knife is uncommonly sharp! Great for cutting steak, though, yes'sir, my favorite knife... Ack! I cut myself! This knife is *too* sharp, let's sue."

    Or I could be wrong... that's how it all sounds to me.

    It would be theologically interesting to suppose that Jesus was really a woman, or that he was really had purple hair and a fro (cf. Godspell) or that he really never existed. But we have no evidence for any of those conclusions, any more than we have significant evidence that he ran off and had kids with Magdalene. ... any more than we have significant evidence that he didn't...

    Arguing or discussing religion logically is silly, given that it's rooted in faith. It's all theory.

    It's amazing how much people on /. will come up with to be technically correct and have something to post.

    Fact is, if someone mowed your lawn, you wouldn't do a damn thing about it because it means you wouldn't have to get off your lazy ass to do it yourself. Hell, you'd let them walk your dog, feed your kids, and boink your wife for you so you didn't miss the upcoming /. story...

    Actually, now I'm starting to wonder how cheap an internet connection IS for AOL. If there are plenty of ISPs out there selling service for $9.99 a month, it makes you wonder what AOL's profit margin is on that.

    The margins aren't too high, giving that they hire all those useless support people to snub their customers calls off...

    You could get away with this. There were guys in my old neighborhood that mowed lawns, then later billed the customer, even though no one asked for their lawn to be mowed... so it was kinda like shareware mowing... anyways, those who didn't want to pay, didn't, and the guys didn't mow their lawn anymore. Point being, they weren't doing anything illegal, they were providing a service and billing for it, if the customer didn't pay, they didn't have a foot to stand on, but that was ok.

    You provided a service for teh company, billing checking, and found errors, problems, etc... I say go for it :)

    lol, no joke!

    When I was one of their revenue streams on my own from mis-timed checks and overdraft, I couldn't get the time of day, then, all of a sudden I'm into a better job, more pay, and they treat me like a customer, though now they earn less from me (nothing out of my pocket, in fact) and they're certainly not earning in interest off my accounts what I was paying them in fees before...

    Of course, if you want to talk on your phone, then it's gonna get pretty expensive, pretty fast.


    I have my cell phone in my car, which I never drive. Saves on fuel costs.

    hmm.. i like ibm's linux ad, the one with the little boy learning everything... though i think you have to have an understanding of oss to understand what they're talking about "what he learns, we all learn" etc...

    I'm waiting for the point where ads will be yanked and people like me who can't justify the $$$ for a tivo will benefit from less ads...
