I have a Creator 3D card in my Ultra 2 and SuSE 7.3 works with it just fine. I also have the 24 bit color AFX card for my Sparcserver 5 and there dosen't seem to be any support for it as far as I can tell (8 bit color only). I actually gave up on the latter because even at 170 MHz it was still PAINFULLY slow during the install. Secondly, I had to install using "console mode" because the installer kept forgetting where the CD ROM was and kept on asking for me to insert the install disk even though it was already inserted. The iso images for SuSE 7.3 are still avaliable at the SuSE web site for the Sparc platform. I would assume you shouldn't have a problem installing on a SS10.
I have a Ultra 2 Enterprise with dual 400MHz UltraSparc IIs and SuSE 7.3 runs very nicely. There are some issues with the sound system but it does work. OTOH I installed Solaris 9 last night and have had problems with the DHCP client but I was able to work around it. Also the Java media player dosen't seem to work properly, it "appears" to be playing but no sound is heard and the progress bar dosen't move. As far as Solaris is concerned I have had my best luck with Solaris 7 Server, both intel and sparc that I still run to this day.
I will give Solaris 10 a try once I can download the iso images, but I'd rather install SuSE 9, altough there is no sparc port yet:(
The UN running the internet? Thoes lazy motherfuckers can't even get countries to quit waring with each other. Not to mention that ALL of them are technically inept and would just pass a shit load of unenforceable internet laws that would criminalize everyone, but them...
I just hate too see my tax dollars being spent to pass such crap. I guess the next step would be to change ALL the words in the English language that could be even remotely used in a derogatory manner.
I guess the LA County officials got their hands on some good smoke, crack or what ever else it is they're on.
There went the last reason why I bought stuff online. What's next, taxing the air we breath? I guess it was just a matter of time. If there is a way to tax something you can be sure the government (terrorists of taxation) WILL make it happen no matter how muc we object to it.

I agree but I didn't have the money at the time. I can fit about 5 or 6 CDs (of course that depends on the length of the CD to begin with) worth of music. Currently I have Rush Hemispheres, Rush Permanent waves, Joe Satriani Living in a blue dream, Rob Zombie american made music to strip by and another folder containing 10 Rob Zombie songs from various CDs. IRIVER does have a Ipod like player that also supports oggs. But my trusty little IRIVER will just do just fine, although I am waiting for them to release a new firmware revision so I'll be able to play oggs...
I looked at the iPod when I was looking for an mp3 player, but I chose to gen a IRIVER mp3 player instead.
1. The cost was just $199. 2. It has 256 megs of ram, an intergrated FM tuner, has a ANALOG input for ripping mp3s directly and a built in microphone to record you PHBs rants. 3. But most of all it has no moving parts other than the buttons. 4. I get WEEKS of playing time on one lithium AA battery.
I still get these along with code red attempts. But the most annoying thing is that my e-mail address is being used to propagate this stupid Microsoft update e-mail virus. I have had to resort to blocking hundreds of domains to keep it to a trickle, but I still reject upto 50 or more a day. It's REALLY getting old
This is very interesting indeed. Like it has been said in other posts I hope they don't screw up a good thing. I have been using SuSE since 6.3 and have been for the most part pleased with their products. I just hope they do not follow Red Hats lead.
Huuh?? Software vendors have been doing this for about 10 years. Does this mean that SuSE is going to drop the online update feature or pay the extortion.. I mean licence fee?
The only reason this appears to be working is because the RIAA has the endless funds to launch law suits against people who cannot afford a lawyer. In situations like this the RIAA should be forced into paying the leagle fees for both parties if the defendant cannot afford to hire their own lawyer.

I showed a friend of mine who just loves Zone Alarm just how easy it was to crash his computer. I tried to tell him that if he really wants to protect his Windows box that he needed an external firewall and NOT firewall software that runs on the host machine. I opened a ssh connection via PuTTy and logged into my mail server, I then used nmap to scan his machine. Zone Alarm complained profusely and then the machine locked up to the point where pushing the reset button was the only way to get the machine back, even Ctrl-Alt-Del didn't work.
I have used HP calculators for years. I have a 42S and a 48GX, both are still giving me years of faithful and trouble free service. What impressed me was the ability to use complex numbers, like negative sqroots and to calculate !n 256 (can't remember if it was 253 or 256). And lets not forget RPN, the oly way to do math:)
I have even surfed the net with my 48GX via a telnet connection to my linux box. Anything else is just ordinary...
I hear you buddy. I have been a SCSI fan for years. A few months ago I tried a test betwen my Maxtor 40gig ATA133 drive and an old IBM 9gig Ultra2 SCSI disk and a even older Seagate Baracuda Ultrawide.
The IBM drive BLEW away the Maxtor in all tests by a wide margin, altough the Segate on the other hand had about the same performance as the Maxtor. It was a real eye opener, so from now on I will ALWAYS buy SCSI even though it costs more.
That may be all well and good. But given the market they are shooting for you cannot expect people who have used Windows to embrace a radically different desktop. I for one actually LIKE the CDE desktop, sure it's old but I think if it were polished up more it could actually compete with OSX.
When I went to Frys last week I looked at the new G5 with the cinema display. The first thing to come to mind was "gee.. kind of reminds me of CDE."

But if the RIAA/MPAA had their way they would be required to have a CD/DVD player that could only play disks from solar system reigon 1..

It's pronounced SUE-SUH. I thought it was always pronounced SUSIE till I called them.

It was quite funny..

Go SUN !
SCO = Screw Customers Over
SCO = Story Changes Often
SCO = Start Coding Openly
I hear ya buddy, it would look real nice next to the one I got from the BSA a while back...
I guess the next big headline will be "SCO revokes Sun and Microsofts UNIX licence".
Well atleast they have the common sence to host it on a server running Linux and Apache :)
