the arguments used to justify gay marriage work quite well to justify polygamy/polyandry/polygyny. If I were a Mormon, I'd already be planning my ad campaign for the 2020 election season
Hate to break this to you, but the real Church of Latter-Day Saints has distanced themselves from polywhatever/bigamy for a few decades. It's the fundamentalists (the ones you saw all over the news a couple years ago) who are still pushing all that - they're a minority extremist sect which was more or less driven out of Utah & away from the primary LDS a long time ago.
The speed limit on a given road should be unambiguous, let's say 55 mph. Police Officer A might overlook people driving 60 mph and Police Officer B might pull somebody over for doing 56 mph. The point is that the driver knows that the rule is 55 mph and they can make an informed decision and weigh the risks of driving a particular speed.
A road near my house is posted 55mph. After a few crashes at one intersection, the local news did a story on it because one of their reporters lives nearby. In his report, he said that the state had lowered the speed limit on that stretch of road to 50mph.
Except all the signs still show 55mph.
I have no clue WTF the rule is. If it's really 50, then I have a good case if I get pulled over for 54 (all the signs still read 55). If it's really 55, then someone's spreading misinformation somewhere.
A few years ago, it was said that California, because of its large student population, charted the course of public education.
I'm not sure if it was all of New York, or just my school, but I distinctly recall taking the California Achievement Test almost every January in elementary school.
What they did with those test results, I have no clue.
I've been wondering the same thing. My wife has thought about getting a USB dongle for 3G access on her laptop; if tethering is allowed with the EVO 4G without paying the extra $30, that would take care of just about everything.
30 dollars just to turn on a feature of the mobile phone? Who are they kidding? Will anybody pay that price? And how long until somebody hacks the device to turn it on? Or maybe they are just relying on some businesses and rich people that don't care about 30 dollars a month?
Except it may actually be worth it to some people.
Doing this gets you up to 8 WiFi connections to "hang" other devices off. I'm paying Time Warner $50/month for RoadRunner at 10Mbps. If I were already going to buy this phone, I could pay $30/month to hook up every device in my house at "fast enough" speeds, and save $20/month. While taking my connection anywhere that has 4G, not just sitting at home.
Must be a different frequency than is used for imaging/diagnostics. I had an ultrasound done on the right side of my nuts last year and 3 months later my wife was knocked up.
With the New York sales tax (8,25% according to Google), the same object would cost 999 + 8,25% in NY, which amounts to about 1 081 dollars.
FYI, in the US (or at least NY), there's a state sales tax, then each county has their own sales tax on top of that. The NY state sales tax is 4%, the remaining 4.25% you found was for whatever county you were looking at. Presently the county sales tax range from 3% to 4.75% in NY.
And there are some items which the state doesn't charge tax on, but some counties do.
Plus, some sales are taxed based upon where you live, not where you made the purchase. If I purchase a car in a county where the total sales tax is 8.75%, I'll only pay 8% because I the county I live in is 8% and the county the vehicle is first registered in is used for the tax.
HR departments exist mainly to protect the organization from the employees. They are not there to help employees.
By helping the employee in this case, they would have protected the organization from him by (hopefully) preventing a sexual harassment lawsuit. Which the guy should have pursued.
Simply put, the kind of people who learn a language out of interest than out of wanting to get a job tend to be better programmers on average.
People who do anything because it interests & fascinates them on a personal level do better than those who are only in it for the paycheck. Doesn't matter whether it's programming, auto repair, landscaping, or anything else.
They need a new law to enforce the law that is already a law? That don't make no sense.
Reckless/inattentive driving is already against the law. Why do we have anti-texting/anti-non-handsfree-use laws? Why not anti-eating-while-driving laws too?
Incidentally, this is why Apple's doing so well. They want their computer to work like a microwave or TV - works indefinitely until it becomes inadequate for your needs, or breaks. Apple is perfectly happy to sell them something that works like that, and that's what us geeks don't understand.
I am a geek, and that is exactly what I want. I want to buy my computer and have it Just Work until it can't do what I need it to do anymore, then it'll be passed on to someone else with lesser computing demands or put into different service which suits its capabilities.
I know that when I buy a dSLR, my nearly 3 year old MacBook isn't going to cut it for very long, and I'll replace it because, well, what else can you do with a laptop when you've already maxed out the RAM but overall the computer isn't adequate for your needs?
Right, has the Google Street View car been down your road? If it's that sparsely populated, they probably haven't.
Google has been down my street. There are 4 houses, plus one office building on my block. We're close enough that there might be some overlap of APs.
Of the 4 houses, I know at least one does not have an AP, most likely 2 of them (at opposite sides of the "cluster", no less). And it's very possible that my house is the only one with an AP. Occasionally I'll get a whiff of another AP nearby, but a very weak signal - so it's likely coming from further down the street.
So yes, Google could very easily narrow things down to my house even though the street is sparsely populated.
Forcing someone to sit in a training class doesn't mean they'll actually learn anything beyond what it takes to complete the course. For everything else, the helpdesk will pull their fat out of the fire.
HP could be doing it today, without the printer having an email address. Do it through the drivers on the host system.

It's 1996?
. Then fuck it. He gets a free pass just for serving in WW2, IMO.
Then why were they going to a pro service bureau if they didn't want to pay pro prices?
Microsoft has been saying this for over a decade. WinFS (and its earlier names) has been tossed around since before Win2K.
Mexico as in the one North of Syracuse just East of Lake Ontario?
No, I was in the Capital District.

Holy shit! MS is beating Apple in a market where Apple has no products! I'm shocked!

I'll be damned. That's true for EVERY election from 1840-1960. I never realized that before.

Great post, can't wait to read your next one!
Ah shit.

So what am I missing?
UV (which is what SPF measures the protection against) is not what solar power exclusively relies upon.

You can lead a horse to water...
Forcing someone to sit in a training class doesn't mean they'll actually learn anything beyond what it takes to complete the course. For everything else, the helpdesk will pull their fat out of the fire.
That makes it pretty hard to play the single-player games which require an online connection for their DRM (Ubisoft).
Physically, maybe. But that doesn't help if you want to, you know...use the damn thing.
Because most people don't want to be trained, and when they are put into a training class they don't absorb anything that they're taught.
Sitting in training is tantamount to being told how to do your job, and people don't want to be told how to do things.
