Well..probably so...but 80Gb/s of aggregate bandwidth is still nothing to sneeze at. Remember that the current single connection speed for any connection (land speed record over internet 2) is at around 6.5 Gb/s

More importantly. SC is one of the places each year that Networking companies use to test new gear. The convention encourages people to use the bandwidth for anything as long as its legal since they are demoing equipment and gear.

I say if they have the bandwidth available for this week...why not use it.

  5. scan rates on Fixing That Old Game System · · Score: 3, Interesting

One of the things I've found a bit interesting is how awful some older games look on a VGA/SVGA or higher resolution display that were designed with TV monitors in mind.

I fondly remember games on my 2600 and C64 that looked cool, but when seeing them on a high res monitor they looked like crap (emulator also).

It seems many designers back then took into account the low resolution nature of monitors and low scan rates to kind of use a natural form of anti-aliasing.

So when using that emulator of old games be sure to lower your monitor refresh rate (if possible) to what the game was originally ment to play under and it will look as you remember it!

I live in the Fredericksburg area as well. Although Adelphia is in Bankrupsy and cox is thinking of buying the market I've been able to get low latency 5 Mb/s downstream 512Kb upstream. AND I live way out in the sticks. There is'nt a substation for DSL in MILES.

Prestige Cable was bought out by Adelphia (with funny money that Adelphia was cooking up). BUT...before they did, Prestige did a complete overhaul of their system and laid fiber to every curb of every customer. Why they did'nt just go up to the HOUSE of every customer I don't know. BUT why would I EVER go with DSL when I have the bandwidth I have now? And fiber just 50 yards away? Verizon can take all the time it wants. In this area the cable companies are in the driver's seat.

Have you seen any of the results. Lowry has said that their job is not to IMPROVE movies but to restore them to what they were when they were released. Now I don't know how old you are, but would'nt be nice to see a film like "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" or "Fall of the Roman Empire" that was as good as when the first print was made?

THX1138 is the only one of the movies Lowry has done that's been "enhanced"...that's Lucas's Job. All the rest are as close to what they were when first released in the theaters (except for the fact that back then the projectors were not as good).

The results are INCREDIBLE. Except for some obvious dubbing with sound, Once upon a time in the west looks like it was filmed yesterday. So does THX1138!

I've tried finding the Lowry Digital Web site. But INCREDIBLY it seems like they don't have one! Seems strange. You would think they would have a web site telling people the films they have done so people might go out and buy them.

    In my opinion...

Apple does not need to support the whole range of PC peripherals. If it used PC hardware but ONLY supported the devices it certified then they could have a PC with OS X that is just as good as the stuff they do now. (probably) The added advantage would be the cost savings from using the x86 architecture.

For example...they could come out with a powerbook or desktop system that LOOKS from the outside identical to the ones they make now...but have x86 hardware in them. They could still restrict OS X to systems they sell, but save a bunch of money over using the PowerPC stuff.

I totally agree that Bush thinks WAY to simplistic and allows his aids to manipulate him like a puppet...BUT

I am TOTALLY angry at the Dem's for stacking the primary process so that they had a candidate so early in the primary process. So very FEW states decided for the rest of the country who was going to be their candidate that the vetting process was not fully completed. AND as a result I'm of the opinion that Kerry is one of the WORST if not THE WORST candidate they could of fielded.

Mind you I don't like BUSH...but don't think that Kerry is anything more than a Political opportunist who has no values other than the collection of POWER. Say what you want about Bush and I'm likely to agree with you.

Bush is stuck up in moral self-righteousness

Kerry is stuck up on an Elitist attitude that he should be prez because everybody else is "little people" and "HE" knows whats "right"

If Kerry wins....mark my words he'll be just as much in bed with Corporations as Bush. AND he'll change his position at a moments notice if he thinks public opinion is against him.

Don't think Kerry would go to war for stupid reasons. I think that if Kerry were in the same position and as Bush was and the public just happened to be screaming for war against Iraq/Iran /Korea....Kerry would do it.

So who do you want? Somebody who does not give a rats ass about public but uses his own hard religious convictions(Bush)? Or somebody who is so fickle that he'll follow the masses wherever they lead....right off the cliff (Kerry)!

To all you German/French/Russian citizens....there is enough hypocracy to go around. Where were you when your countries ignored the sanctions and sold everything under the sun including WEAPONS to Saddam during the sanctions.

I've never seen a worse set of canidates to vote for. I hate ALL of them!
