  1. Re:Is it just me, or couldn't posts about Dev thin on Eclipse 3.1 Released · · Score: 3, Funny

So what the heck is an IDE? you give this explination but don't explain these advanced terms.

Technically it would be more correct asking "What is IDE?" instead of using "an IDE", since IDE is a type of hard disk... it's being replaced by SATA these days, but still nice and cheap. IDE descends from RLE hard drives... they were called that because of the "Run-Length Encoding" compression scheme they used to store data more efficiently. The Microsoft / Stacker case is a large part of why the industry left RLE HD's behind and moved to IDE. IDE of course stands for "Integer-Deliminated Encoding", which is a much more advanced storage mechanism that relies on wavelets and sometimes pixlets (But that's an Apple tech).

    Moving on...
On that what is Java? "It's written in java?" does that have something to do with coffee?
You are correct here... "Written in Java" however is grammatically incorrect and should be "Written ON Java". This describes the programming method used to develop the Eclipse IDE hard disk technology. Since wavelet and pixlet compression using Integer-Deliminated Encoding is considered a form of "Extreme Programming", it requires a hefty intake of Java and other energy drinks such as Red Bull or Ballz. Using the new Kabbalah drinks qualifies your development style as "Black Arts" programming. I'm sure you remember seeing various books about Black Magic programming, Voodoo and of course the Linux bible... that's why religious wars about Operating Systems and text editors always come up here.

I could go on about the cult of the Penguin and the art of summoning daemons but I'd like to keep this post short and simple to help educate those who are new to programming.

I'm using OS X and the visual alerts pretty much cover my needs. The only stuff that bugs me is games or training videos with no text layovers. I like how PBS online packages their movies in a QT format with a little checkbox sprite for "subtitles". Hopefully all online movie sales in the future will have this... otherwise I'm gunna hafta sue somebody. ;-)

But if you wanna make deaf people go WOW... include a built in voice recognition program that can handle anybody's voice without any training. That way laptops could be used in SOME situations instead of an interpreter... and someday in the future this could be used to auto transcribe TV shows and old movies that never had captions added. But now I'm just getting all Star Trek here. :-)

There IS a system of writing specifically made for the deaf, so that the full range of hand gestures and facial expressions can be conveyed without pictures and videos. (SignWriting) I think it's never going to really catch on though, videophones will kill it.

For a non-English skilled deaf person I'd say a Mac with an iSight and QT Pro would be great, can keep all your personal notes in your own language quickly and easily now. No need to depend on a 2nd language.

P.S. Deaf people LOVE iChat AV... once more of us get G5's, we're finally gonna have a deaf party line! SWEET!
P.P.S. Bandwidth upload caps ruin our video performance... quit worrying about pirates and let us USE technology to make life better.

I do not share the opinion that Apple's design for the iPod is any good. That's because I define great design in terms of fantastic machinery. And if you look inside the iPod's technology, it's quite common and unimpressive. It isn't anything special.

Nothing special? Is that why you say "Apple may have won a battle when it comes to music, but it remains to be seen whether it will win the war against Microsoft." Because you've already given up on that market. But see... you're just too GOOD for that "When Apple hit it big in 2003, we were no longer interested in the music-only category." But if you weren't even interested, then why did you call it a battle?

Yeah... who needs profit when you "continuously ride the wave of technology, so that means we tend to go away from the low end of the mass market." Goodness, who wants to be at the low end of the market... puhlease!

To paraphrase Mirage "Making a "simple" product is not weakness. And disregarding it is not strength!"

Bill Gates spews similar FUD against the iPod... it's too bad he can't allow himself to watch that movie, he could learn something Steve already knows.

For my wife's iPod Mini... works great, was really cheap, and seems to be pretty similar to what's being blocked right now. I haven't seen the TransPods patent info yet, but is this one allowed since it doesn't sit on a movable tube or is that patent simply for all FM cigarette adaptor chargers? There's GOTTA be prior art on this, if they explicitly patented the idea of an iPod car charger with an FM tuner I can image Apple getting pretty pissed since they want as many iPod compatible products as possible. Yeah, I'd complain to Apple and they'd probably have a nice little chat with DLO about this.

Also uncertain is whether the Intel-based development kits seeded to developers already feature the EDID chip or whether the installation disc contains a less sophisticated installation check that simply seeks out one particular hardware configuration--the one given to developers--and will not install on other configurations.

I think the 2nd option is more likely. It's exactly what Apple has been doing with OS X for years. When you buy a Mac you get an install CD which is exactly like any other except each model comes with a "supported hardware" check as it installs. The eMac install will not work on a Mac mini, nor the iBook install on a Powerbook, etc... They all have a list of chipsets / CPU's and other hardware built in that they use to identify which system it's running on. (That is, assuming you don't have OF as these x86 Macs won't) All Apple has to do is keep doing what they've always done and you're pretty much locked into Apple hardware, I suspect they'll simply include drivers for their own chipsets and motherboards and tada... everyone is already locked out. There's no need to add extra hardware components simply to identify it as a Mac when Apple is the only one using a certain Mobo.

What would be the utility of such machines? Who knows? Of course, a small automobile would only be useful for the mites to drive around in, and I suppose our Christian interests don't go that far.

I'm really not familiar with that usage of the word "Christian", what exactly was he saying there? I know "Catholic" can mean all embracing or universal, but have never heard of another usage for "Christian" except the religion. He's not really saying "Since we're Christians we aren't interested in making cars for bugs" right? That doesn't make any sense. So what's it mean?

That's kind of true huh? Working on new features for their next release, it wouldn't really make much sense to send them all the new bugs he's made until it's production quality wouldn't you say?

I know bashing Apple is popular given their current popularity which many find repulsive, but they actually are good citizens when it comes to GPL code.
