  1. why doesnt google wither optimize their new os to improve backwards compatibility, or increase the hardware requirements to support at least 1 or 2 future major android versions? seems strange they’d go with a blank slate every new update they write, and we’re at their 8th major try alteady.

  2. your comment makes android sound great for manufacturers and less than optimal for the end users, even if only taking platform fragmentation into account. its up to the end user to find their own updates in order to save a few bucks up front.

  3. make a direct comparison now: iphone 5s was released on Sept. 10, 2013 and is currently supported by ios11 releases. iPhone 5 was released Sept. 13, 2012 and support ends at the end of February when 32 bit processors are deprecated by Apple.

    not suitable for all situations but it would be a welcome toggle setting that the ohtographer could pre-set for anticipated challenging situations.

    This is not a new advancement though; the Volvo Modular Engine in i4 and i5 configuration use 10:1 compression ratios on 87octane/91 RON) for over a quarter century now. The Mazda Skyactiv is a new beast.

  9. citation for this? i didn't read this in the links provided. This is an interesting point about the engine as one of the benefits of an electric vehicle is it's pretty much a press-start-and-go in the winter, with no need to warm up an engine. if i'm plugging in a block heater, i might as well plug in a charger instead.

    But I prefer dealing with a non Chinese company that has their phones made in China, than a Chinese company. I am so glad of the choice I made.

    besides the general good feelings you have with your purchase, what data do you have that your device is any more secure than (allegedly) OnePlus, or any other Chinese company? You admit your hardware is made in China, so you're reassured by non-Chinese marketing and image, of all things??

    without even looking at the short list of pre-defined messages, are you saying there was NO other possible message that would have been more appropriate than the one that went out initially?

    i mean, even "this is a test" or "hay guyz it's ok stop putting your kids into sewers right now" or would be preferable to the message that went out.

    Seemed like nobody wept for the loss of the 11" MacBook air except me. coming from a history of using subcompacts since the Toshiba T1910, DEC HiNote Ultra, Thinkpad 701c, etc. i loved the smallest MacBook air! i had no problems with having few usb ports, no optical drive, and tiny screen; it was miles ahead of all the other sub-compact craptop compromises i made before.

    It was a sad day when they stopped updating the model line and there's nothing (certainly from Apple) that will replace such a convenient, economy-class-tray-sized notebook. iPad with a bluetooth keyboard? sheesh.

    Unless you are referring to Health Services in correctional facilities, There is no such federal governmental organization named "Canada Health Services".

    Additionally, In Canada, the responsibilities of healthcare management are devolved to the provincial government, not the federal government. I can't speak to any of your other anecdotes, but your Canadian info is incorrect.

    this is where the rubber meets the road: i pay $115 for a phone + 1gb of data.

    where i have to work, i don't have a choice. Let me know if you can find a worse plan than this, becuase AFAIK this plan "are some of the highest in the world".

    the data is from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation. it's a Crown Corporation of Canada that generates non-partisan data, and not a 'think tank'.

    Sorry to burst your bubble of Canadian Exceptionalism, but Canadian Banks Got $114 Billion From Governments During Recession. this is data based on the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and works out to $3400 per capita. This was tenfold the amount Canadian taxpayers spent on the auto industry bailout.
