I actually have an older model Cannon MP190, I was sure it wasn't going to work with Xubuntu. I plugged it in, it downloaded some things, and it worked perfectly with no intervention from me. I loved that, not having to fiddle with drivers or worry about having to buy a new printer when Microsoft released a new version of Windows.
Linux is more Plug and Play than Windows. Everything I plug in just works, it's come a long way. Makes me feel good knowing I don't have to worry about saving money for a Windows upgrade, worry about what anti-virus is the best or where I can find a Driver for an older piece of Hardware. Since I switched to Linux last year, I question people whom say they tried Linux but couldn't get it work, since I used Windows for 15 years and am new to this OS; they sound like trolls to be honest.
As far as WD, you can simply not buy their junk. There's other, better Hardware that doesn't enslave you to a single OS. Even if you did buy it, there's a good chance some nice Coder will write a Kernel Driver for it in the very near future. It's no sweat really, worry free.
Xbox has lost 3 Billion in 10 years, 2012 being the worst. Sony too, which goes to show, if people stop buying Games; you can kiss big name Consoles goodbye. If it's true they will soon cost $100 for a Game (Some do already) then it's over.
That 15GB is yours, Side by Side is designed to grow, substantially more than that. And older versions of files are NOT removed after you have removed the Application. Mine use to be anywhere from 30-40GB before I left and moved to Xubuntu. Your own Tamagotchi with a copy of Windows, feed it and watch it grow.

For me, if it's not Cross Platform (Win,Mac,Nix) then it's useless. Seriously, there isn't any reason NOT to have Cross Platform, more money is better than limited money from a single Platform that may or may not continue to exist in a few years, since XNA and DirectX is pretty much dead now, not to mention limited to a single Platform whereas OpenGL is available to all. Bottom line, there is more money to be made by being Cross Platform; It's also my understanding that a certain company actually pays Devs to make their Games exclusive.
Thing is, the money given to them for being exclusive could probably be made up by being Cross Platform. So it still doesn't make any sense to be so single-platform minded. I mean, I've been thinking about making a small Game Company, but we're not going to develop for just one Platform when more Money can be made from multiple platforms. Not to mention more exposure and fans, a non-evil Company is what we're aiming for =)

Exactly, all that proprietary software will come at a price when you buy one of those Cars used and filled with exploits and the like. Not just Cars, but TVs, Blu-Ray etc. The future is very hackable and costs a lot of money knowing you're basically forced to buy everything brand new or live with exploits.

Let's take a Thyroid removal for example (which is on the rise), it's not out of the question for a Skinny person to gain 100 pounds in one week. Also don't forget you need to register your game on no less than three different sites in order to unlock it, for your protection.
Also, if your Console should break, you'll need to re-buy and re-register your Games. This not only helps support the AAA Developers, so they can continue to bring you a quality Gaming experience; but, also to protect you from anyone whom may try to borrow your Games. Passwords and Credit Card info is stored in Plain Text, studies have shown it's much easier to read and they didn't want to bother users with silly encryption.
