    He's going to be fired BECAUSE the article is worthy of discussion. Same as James Damore at Google. If the article is worthy of discussion, then it's threatening to the people in charge of speech codes.

    It doesn't matter. 1.44 billion people took Chinese high speed rail in 2016, perhaps 10 billion total in the history of Chinese HSR. In all this time, there has been one crash causing 40 deaths. Had all these people driven cars instead, the number of crash deaths would have been many times higher.

    Companies like Google make a point of reporting their percentages of minority and female employees. If only that would report their percentage of workers by age...

    The one who brought the corporation into disrepute was the worker who shared the document outside Google, not the worker who authored the document. So why was the author fired, and the sharer not fired?

    Come to think of it, the one who really brought the corporation into disrepute was the executive who did the firing.

    Problems with this system:
    1) No secret ballot
    2) Signatures are easily faked

  11. 60+ stories is not necessary. 4 stories would be enough. But even that's illegal, most of the Bay Area is zoned for single family homes.

  12. Replacement fertility is 2.1 kids per family. That means some families have to have 3 or more kids. Society is broken if it is either difficult or considered "immoral" to have 3 kids.

  13. Next generation aircraft will likely be designed for AIs, not men or women. But yeah, if there are other roles for which small body size is an advantage, then we should look into filling those roles with women.

  16. Nobody's making you use the Facebook app. You can just as well go to the Facebook webpage in your web browser. (A tip: messaging works from the mobile browser if you go to mbasic.facebook.com) I presume the same is true with most other apps, like Yelp or Reddit, which have web pages. Not only is this better for your sanity, but it minimizes the prying these companies can do into your private information.

    Most people aren't trying to steal from you. But you're around a lot of people, and it only takes one.

    That's why, if you want your photo taken on your phone, it's OK to ask a bystander to do it, chances are very high that a random person YOU choose won't run off with the phone. But if someone offers to take your photo (with your phone), you should say no.

    Until we stop breeding as rabbits

    We've already stopped breeding like rabbits. Virtually all the developed world now has sub-replacement fertility. So do less-developed countries like China and Brazil and Indonesia and Bangladesh, while India is pretty close to replacement. About the only place left that currently breeds "like rabbits" is sub-Saharan African. Allow for a few more decades of development, and their birthrates will probably plummet as well.
