Not true. US immigration requires fingerprint and photograph also from all visitors from the visa waiver countries (eg all western europe, the 27 countries in the parent post). The China Daily article is clearly incorrect.
(As a frequent US traveller and German citizen I can confirm this firsthand.)
Dr Peiser submitted his findings to Science in January, and was asked to edit his paper for publication - but has now been told that his results have been rejected on the grounds that the points he make had been "widely dispersed on the internet."
Come on! Everybody in the scientific community knows that Science and Nature will only accept articles that have not been published electronically first. This is handled in an extremely strict way. The authors are not even allowed to put up a preprint on their homepage for example.
So, either he did not know, which means he is not really in touch with scientific journals, or he is just acting up now...
There will be political implications of this new ranking system. I bet nobody has really thought this through...
What "trust rank" would you give Al Jazeera, for example?
It is a state-owned, but journalistically largely independent big satellite network with a lot of staff and a huge audience. Just from an area of the world that might have different views.
Jokes about Al Gore aside, one possible outcome of global warming is the deep sea currents changing their course. One of them, the gulf stream, veers off completely in the model, leading to a projected dramatic temperature drop in Europe... have you ever wondered why the UK/France/Germany are so far north compared with US locations of similar warm climate?
I've been wondering for a while already how long it takes until somebody IN THE US realizes this possible connection... maybe one should distribute a short summary of the findings as leaflet in Florida the day before the elections...:o)
Sorry, I was thinking of the professional edition. I've never been working with the personal edition yet, so I don't know anything about the docs there.
So, if everything works that simple, someone will soon create a GIMP plugin for watermarking and thereby copy-protecting arbitrary pictures.
What happens? There will be masses of print-protected pictures on the web. Everybody goes crazy, and the protection will have to be backed out of printer drivers because of heavy customer demand...
Since most modern operating systems (i.e. also Linux) use the BIOS nearly exclusively during bootup, I'm not so sure if this has much impact... you will have to be able to boot an OS anyway...
Also, Phoenix is only trying to do in the mainstream what has already been introduced for servers, namely better system diagnostics independent of the sanity state of the OS running.
Not necessarily... depends on the frame of reference, whether the Klingons or the Romulans are watching. But did you know that physicists are actually working on a warp drive (at least theoretically)?:-)
It seems to me that the main problem with this statement of assurance is not its interplay with the GPL, but the fact that there is nothing keeping the company from issuing a new, perhapst totally modified statement sometime later.
So, could anyone with a legal background please comment - is this letter in any way binding to Secure Computing?
2. Non-Assertion section. (...)
This is a catch-22.
Are you sure? The respective paragraph of the GPL reads:
7. If, as a consequence of a court judgment or allegation of patent
infringement or for any other reason (not limited to patent issues),
conditions are imposed on you (whether by court order, agreement or
otherwise) that contradict the conditions of this License, they do not
excuse you from the conditions of this License. If you cannot
distribute so as to satisfy simultaneously your obligations under this
License and any other pertinent obligations, then as a consequence you
may not distribute the Program at all. For example, if a patent
license would not permit royalty-free redistribution of the Program by
all those who receive copies directly or indirectly through you, then
the only way you could satisfy both it and this License would be to
refrain entirely from distribution of the Program.
So, if you are explicitly told that this patent will not be enforced with respect to GPL software, there should not be any problems...
Of course, the question remains whether the assertion might be revoked some time.
I hope Ubuntu will go for a modern ICU 59.1 as unicode library! That would bring both Gnome and Ubuntu ahead.

Here's the original article (paywalled, Science magazine): https://www.sciencemag.org/con...
News at Nine: transliterations of names can be tricky... Some parts of the world use different alphabets...

ZENworks is cross-platform. So even if the server is Novell Linux...

Befor you all start shouting about a Debian repository and mounting /usr/local/from-server, please consider:
The question is most probably about updating free software on Windows desktops!

Come on, there is one more obvious place for it: in the source directory of the distribution (which is by the way offered for download). So:
ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/9.1/suse/src/yast2*
Here you are. So please stop trolling.
If you look at the amount of printed documentation in the boxed set, you will find that this is easily worth the money...

did you notice the name of the primary author from the preprint on astro-ph/0310571?!
J. Richard Gott III - and guess what "Gott" means in german?
(same as english "god" of course!

Has anyone researched yet when a common-sense idea beomes an algorithm that computer scientist discuss?
I mean, ok, nice idea, but do we really need computer scientist for this (except for using buzzwords)?
Well, there are many variants on that one.
f.ex. the engineer:
1 is prime, 3 is prime, 5 is prime, 7 is prime, 9 is prime, 11 is prime,...
and how about the computer scientist:
1 is prime. proven.
(actually, it's not really clear if 1 is prime, that depends on the exact definition.)
Even constantly improving the model!
Well, since the google admins even let you see all the interface messages in Klingon or Elmer Fudd if you like, they might just love the idea... :-)
